I don't know/care if some of you are joking, but the fact that some of you are getting snooty about signing a player like this is quite frankly the most pathetic thing I've seen in a while. Have we really been spoiled so much to react this way to the signing of a full Colombian international from a team like Roma? Played whenever he was available during the 2014 World Cup. Pacey, powerful, can play out wide or up top - exactly what we've been crying out for. I think it's a fantastic signing.
No snootiness from me, I think he looks amazing. Fan-bloody-tastic signing, exactly what the doctor ordered.
So we have a creator on the left in Jurado and this speed demon on the right getting in behind. Like it
I'm not sure if his goal record would suggest he can be relied on as a striker. Let's hope his pace can open up the play for others.
I thought myself earlier tbh so looked it up. He didn't. Ighalo didn't have a great strike rate but better than Ibarbo's 20 goals in 200 odd games. This is not, I repeat not, a negative post.
Ighalo had a TERRIBLE goal scoring rate before coming here. So I won't pre-judge based on that statistic again!
Hi strike rate's not great OVERALL but I'd like to know what it is when he's been played as an actual striker as opposed to a winger. Also if he sets up shed loads of goals for Troy & co I won't be caring if he doesn't score them himself
He's also only 25 & been playing in Italy for Cagliari, so it's difficult to be prolific. The fact Roma took him on shows he was one of the best of the rest in the league.
Good points. Roma didn't just take him once either, they took him twice so he must have showed them something to re-loan.
He doesn't have to have a great strike rate. He has to hoof down the wing like his pants are on fire and ensure Troy has a good strike rate.
I'm not criticising the signing , he could be amazing he could be a flop. Certainly worth having a look at as he's on loan. But the stats don't really line up in his favour. Roma signed him , started him for 6 games and then went off him very quickly. Hence why he's being loaned out. Prior to that he's been eeking out a living in the lower depths of Serie A with a poor goals, assists and key pass stats ratio. He also averages under 7 in whoscored.com player analysis stats. To repeat , I'm not criticising the signing as he has incredible raw talent that can hopefully be harassed in training by QSF. But let's remember that Berghuis came with a far higher pedigree and stats and he's been deemed not ready to start and has not even featured in recent match day squads.
But he has to be able to pass to Troy when he gets there. Something Anya is not great at despite having equal pace.
Looking at that Youtube montage I would say that's pretty much his modus operandi as they say in Rome BTW does the loan deal include an option to buy does anyone know?
Oh his pace is rather frightful and his left foot is somewhat delightful he's a footballers' Vincent Van Gough IBARBO, IBARBO, IBARBO!
The Pozzos finally get their man..they tried to sign him six years ago. As Carpster says, Salerno was Sporting Director when he signed for Calgiri and then tried to sign him at Leeds. A true Pozzo-Salerno signing.
Unless I'm mistaken, He s still owned by Cagliari so that's who we are loaning him from. Roma had him on loan with an option to buy , but they neglected to take it up. Cagliari are in Serie B so I'd imagine they d be more than willing to sell to a cash rich Prem club.
---------------Gomes--------------- Nyom---Prodl---Cathcart---Holebas ----------Capoue---Behrami-------- Ibarbo--------Jurado---------Berghuis ---------------Deeney---------------- Subs: Arlauskis, Angella/Hoban, Anya, Watson, Abdi, Vydra, Ighalo ??
But for Roma to take him on he was clearly impressing. He's also a regular for Colombia. Berghuis is very different because it's him physically getting up to speed.
I imagine that'll be it if you take out Berghuis, move Jurado to the left, and put Ighalo behind Deeney. But who knows.
I like the look of this fella, but one could have also said the same thing about Paredes - just replacing 'Colombia' with 'Ecuador'...
First rumour on here 5:23. Confirmed on SSN at 9:25. Still plenty of time for the Pozzos to pull another couple of signings out of the hat!
Got to say a little underwhelmed. Was expecting a big name striker and not a winger. We have lost Fessi so 3 strikers is not enough especially if Vydra has spat his dummy out Bournemouth and Norwich seem to be busy
I think Anya is pretty good at it really. People have been saying since prehistoric times that this winger or that winger has no end product, but Anya has brought us as near to chances as anyone else in the last few games.
Is there a Serie A version of Smudger who can tell us if this guy is actually decent? Every post I'm reading on the internet is related to Fifa.
