Obviously none of us have seen enough of our new Dutch signing to make any judgment on his ability or potential yet but on paper this is the signing that should fit our 4-2-3-1 system considering that he is a winger. Maybe he is unfit, maybe the manger doesn't think he is good enough yet but out of our new permanent signings ( apart from the two that have been suspended) he has seen the least action. Our system is crying out for a talented winget yet QSF decided that Diamantai ( who did look unfit - considering his lack of running/mobility) was worth a half of football as soon as he was eligible to play but Berghuis ( who is behind Anya as regards to a first team place) wasnt worthy of a place on the bench.

This begs the question - are we going to continue to play players out of position to suit the system? ( especially Ighalo and Jurado - in the last two home games) Or is Berghuis not ready for the premier league? which means we might as well try to sign at least one winger before the transfer window closes

There's a difference between fitness (unfit) and strength (weak) in my mind and I think he falls into the latter category at the moment. If he's amenable to it my inclination would be to send him out on a month long loan to a top Championship club, with a view to extending it up to the maximum of 93 days after review on a monthly basis, and then take another look at him in December.

When he bags a hat trick tonight you will change your mind!

Surely he'll get a chance to show what he can do tonight. I doubt we are yet in the position to spent £4 million or whatever it was on development players.

Mind you Bournemouth seem to have done it with Mings except for £9 million!

Bloody hell give him a chance!

Outrageous, if Vydra was playing none of this would've happened.

    What is a Berghuis?

So are we relying on Anya for creativity from the wings?

Something about the system doesn't seem to fit the attributes of our players. Deeney is not an Andy Carroll type striker. Jurado plays naturally in the number 10 role - he is not a winger.

According to Wikki translate it's a mountain home. Hope that clarifies it for you.

But not as good as Sebastian 'Multiple' Coates.

Probably a more long term investment: Give him a few months getting up to speed physically and we'll probably see him start more.

my impression is that he is homesick....never looks happy in any picture he's in and always talking about his close family/friends coming over.....

he will take time to both settle and get fit....

Hill house ? Give the lad a chance. He is new to the league and it will take him to adjust. He has the technique and skill but please allow him time to bed in. He has hardly played much competitive football, is behind in his fitness preparation and will need to strengthen himself. He knows this himself. Lets not forget several Dutch players of yesteryear even Bergkamp too a while to bed in and he was older.

If it's a strength issue, keep him here training, but lock in in the weight room for 2 hours every day, hand him a protein drink on the way in and a steak on the way out.

Then send him on a loan.

I don't think he'll feature again for us until he's improved his strength. He's as slender as a pencil! Granted, so am I but then again I'm not a professional footballer.

So what was the point of that post?

You sure about that? Almost every report has had him down as one of our better players yesterday

My point is that because I'm not a professional footballer, building my strength is not a priority for me as my work doesn't require it. Going to the gym for Berghuis on the other hand should be a priority, as the benefits of the gym will help him in his career.

    Understand?

Yeah I reckon so. I read that same report, but from the sounds of it nearly everyone played poorly so I don't think it's worth paying particular attention to anyone who 'stood out'.

Now watch him start on Saturday!

EDIT: Still need to watch the highlights to see Berghuis, but just not sure I can bring myself to do so. We sounded that bad..

Firstly, I don't know how how I can make my point clearer to you. I don't think it's that difficult to comprehend.

Secondly, If you don't give a flying ****, why comment and ask what the point of my original post was?

He's a quality footballer who just needs to fill out a bit. He knows it and the club knew it when they bought him probably. I think he's a bit of a 'project' personally. We snapped him up despite interest from elsewhere, the potential is there, us as fans just have to be a bit patient as I don't think he was signed necessarily to be an immediate starter.

He'll be in the squad, I think Quique has said that already. Just keep giving him 20 minutes from the bench to get used to the intensity of the Premier League and bulk him up a bit and we're laughing. I'm not entirely sure Watford fans have that patience though.

Fair point! It certainly wouldn't harm Berghuis though. I'm sure Quique's got him doing extra sessions.

Surely from now we will see him gradually play more and more of a role, as he carries out the necessary strength work to adapt to the league.

Definitely said this before so sorry for repeating myself, but he would be far from the first import from a foreign league to have it be made public knowledge that he will require some time improving his strength and acclimatising before he settles in the league enough to start and finish games, and he's obviously a very talented player.

Look at the transformation Ozil went through in a relatively short period of 2 or 3 months last season in order to cope with the physical demands of the league better; he completely overhauled his physique from a slight player to a physically robust one.

Soon enough we'll forget all about the first few weeks and enjoy watching him as a player week in, week out, and I'd wager he's going to be a very important one.

Do you honestly think Watford fans are any different from fans of every other club in England? All football fans are impatient, fickle and one-eyed when it comes to their team.

Wow, did I say that? And looking around this forum, patience isn't really a 'thing' here, hence my comment.
