Clearly I would not have been a competent engineer, had I chosen that particular career!!!! According to other ITK, there do not appear to be any supporting pillars for the two stands, as I mentioned earlier. Easier job to complete now.

I'm having a bad day in terms of getting things right. Maybe my wife is wiser than I thought.

You don't need a proper roof - just a big triangle of fabric - Like the roof they had at the London Olympic swimming pool temporary wings built for spectator seating, and then removed after the games ended. There is definitely a vertical support at each end of the Vicarage Road stand holding the roof up - So that obviously has been taken into account for sight lines. My dad had a wheelchair season ticket in the corner and the view was good and the Vicarage Road stand pillar did not obstruct the sightlines. But lower down i imagine it would do so. The more i think it through -it surely must be an extension/linked to the SEJ. What we need is a planning application to be submitted then we can see how it will work.

It's surely not gonna connect the VR stand to the EJ? The angles are so different?

Ok.. my dumb ass question for the day... Where will the dug outs be placed ? as now that the EJ stand goes to near ground level how will they be placed too not block those seats (or has that been mentioned and I am being truly dumb).

Back on track.. even if that is not an official picture... it is still a vast improvement to the ground and I like the look of it. Will be great to finally have a good sized shop (maybe better merch ??).

Someone made that and posted it to Facebook. He has since updated the plan with a overing and it shows the angle of the SEJ being followed around the corner, hence separating home and away fans quite easily.

I'm not sure his second plan (or his first) is viable because of the big pillar, but the club must have a plan so maybe it's remarkably close to whats planned. I'll find the image in a sec.

I know it's going to be difficult next season, but is there any need to start creating gigantic holes in the centre circle for the opposition to fall into? Bit extreme if you ask me.

It looks like that pillar will definitely block the view of spectators in there when the ball is in and around the VR end box and byline.

The red wall down Occupation Road behind the SEJ stand has been demolished and the steel erectors are in full effect today.

I would only guess that there will be new turnstiles and maybe new club shop and budding built in that space between the road and the new stand when they've finished the seating?

It'll have a whole new look, clearly.

The pillar stays, the VR roof isn't cantilevered enough to not have extra support and with the stand being so tight to Vicarage Road the possibility to change that really doesn't exist without major, major investment.

Either they change the regs on safe-standing or we are looking for a new stadium next.

The club have to put in a 70 seat press suite which I think on HP said was going in behind the SEJ, will have it's own entrance

Theoretically, you could extend the cantilever roof further sideways towards the East Stand to eliminate the pillar but you are looking at a fair few bob there. Or of course, plant a big crane like structure to support the roof outside the stand like the did with the fellow 'yellows' Dortmund. I estimate you would be looking at the garage forecourt for that big yellow support!

How possible would it be or the roof to be connected to the sej roof and that support the weight?

me too - always stood on the NE Terrace before the "new" VR stand was built - could turn full circle if these new seats are for home fans, as I'll be chasing pay on the day seats next season -

They look similar, but I believe they're actually quite different. Vic Rd is smaller, and most of it is built into the natural slope. The floodlights on the NE corner also seem to come up through that pillar we're on about , whereas the Rookery floodlights look to sit on the roof without attachment to those pillars.

I'm not qualified to make any real comments about what the pillars hold up exactly, but I do believe the VR end and Rookery are quite different. I'm sure the pillar is holding up the roof. But yeah, this is all a bit of a strange discussion. Someone else will know more anyway.

Both our end stands are 'goal-post' roof structures (not cantilevered) Take away any of the trusses & we will all end up two feet shorter.. and dead!

The only example i think of where a goal-post roof was grafted onto an adjacent roof was the South East corner at White Hart Lane... but it was an extremely expensive build.

And with the SEJ being a semi-temporary, cheaper structure, I can't see that happening.

I imagine what will happen is the seats won't actually go that far around the corner. It's only a few hundred there, and I think that can be done without too many seats getting their sight lines too close to that pillar. Could be (will probably be) wrong though.
