I agree with you on the imposing midfielder, but there is plenty of talent in the Watford midfield though. If we can be assured that Abdi can put in a full season (and that's anyone's guess) then we should have enough if we include Tozser. Add into the mix one of McGugan (who appears to be first choice), Battocchio and Murray. If we managed to get Ambrosini in there as well, probably would be dream ticket. I think you need 6 viable options for 3 midfield places. We mustn't block the path of our young talent though, and we should be mindful of Smith, O'Nien and now Byers to have opportunities for some game time. At centre back, there will not be anymore additions. More likely one or two maybe outgoing. Angella's name is cast in stone and for me it's going to be two from Ekstrand, Belkalem, Hoban, Tamas and Cathcart. I think Doyley's game time will be limited if he plays at centre back. He will more likely be used as backup at right back as this is where we look a little light. I cannot see a place for Brown, so he may well go especially as Johnson and Doherty have signed pro forms.
I think Smith, O'Nien and Byers are all capable of helping the team this season although probably two of them will be out on loan.
I've been telling my new born son about Vydras return and he just flicked the V at me. A proud moment!!
Paredes, Toszer and Mejia ? Not too shabby Luke. Matej will put it in this season. He wants to show to all and sundry that he is still a young player with great potential and this time around there should be no distraction during the January window. He's stronger and more experienced and also just a little bit wiser.
Agree with this. At the moment we have a very tasty looking team but the defensive frailties from last year have nt been addressed with a personnel change . A commanding leader in defence mainly but a tough tackling midfielder would be good too. Ambrosini would be an amazing signing allowing Tozer to ply his trade nearer the edge of the opposition box
He really doesn't want to be here, bless him. The club video looks staged and awkward, and I just feel sorry for the bloke. He has the talent to be much further along in his career, but he's stuck with an indifferent championship club for the moment. That said, Woohoo!!!!!
An interview is quite literally staged, in a sense. This will be his 3rd season in pro football, & we, if we go up, represent a perfect springboard to elite football for him. Other than that, I see where you're coming from.
I'm assuming this assumption that Vydra doesn't want to be here (despite not having to be) is based upon his tone of voice and not-so-great English right? Because I'm guessing the smiles, the embracing of his teammates and delight being shown by those teammates isn't being taken into consideration.
Agree, can't understand where some of the "clearly doesn't want to be here" comments are coming from. He's absolutely beaming in some of the pictures.
I imagine he'd rather be at a PL club but I'm sure he's happy to be reunited with people like Pudil, Batto and Troy and to be at a club he knows.
Agreed, but how long until Deeney has a falling out with Vydra and the latter hands in a transfer request. Shall we have a forum sweepstake perhaps?
I would imagine most of our squad would prefer to be at a PL club. And they will be, in the 15-16 season.
If it was a choice between Man City in the Premier League and Watford in the Skrill Premier, Forestieri would still choose Watford.
I agree. An interview is not the best way to judge someone, the expressions in the pics being posted and vids on instagram tell a different story Did I hear TD calling him a superstar? His reaction was certainly one of enjoying the banter
No, the assumption is based on him saying he doesn't want to be here. He said "I wanted to play in the Premier League and I have made that reality. Now I'm keen to stay there. "The Premier League in England is my priority. Now it depends on whether the clubs reach an agreement and if the Udinese president lets me go." Now unless I missed something last season, we failed to gain promotion by some considerable margin and Vydra won't be playing in the Premier League in England. As for him "absolutely beaming in some of the pictures" (Arakel), "The smile didn't quite reach his eyes" is a phrase that seems very popular amongst modern authors of mediocre books and can be applied nicely to the Vydra interview. I think some of you would make good Liverpool fans when it comes to interpreting what is staring you in the face. My guess is that he'll play his heart out in hopes of a move in January, which I'd be more than happy with. Anything else is a welcome bonus for us and a crying shame for him.
Well you are a real barrel of laughs aren't you? Talk about glass half empty, yours must be bone dry with cobwebs.
Vydra can be best of friends with lots of watford players (smiles and embracing) without wanting to play for a championship team. Lets not kid ourselves, Vyds doesn't want to be playing in the championship - he's back because he needs to repair his reputation after a rubbish season at WBA. That means he will give 100% (for a season) and that's good enough for me. But I'm not going to fall for any badge kissing nonsense from him this time round...
If he had said he wanted to play in the Championship all his career, he would have been thought to be either lacking in ambition or a liar. His young, ambitious head was turned by almost pure (over the top) adoration he received, it is understandable and could almost be expected when advised by his agent and away from his family. I think he's come back to the squad chastened and embarrassed, but a better player and individual after the experience.
To be honest, I'd be disappointed if any of our players said they wanted to play in the Championship.
Agreed. I remember watching a vid a while back about a hypothetical about people wanting to do there job and people who do it for the money etc. Admittedly it's a bit skewed because he's not on of the best strikers in the world but in terms of what's available to us I'd say he's the best by a stretch.
Well said Molly This thing goes much higher that Vydra though, I've seen comments from Deeney, the owners, the manager and 95% of the fans saying they want to be in the premier league, this poisonous thinking is spreading and I'm horrified We've lost our identity
