Doyley is set to extend his contract for another year. http://www.tuttoudinese.it/watford/watford-doyley-verso-il-rinnovo-i-dettagli-20668
"Lloyd Doyley and Watford, the story continues. A story that began long ago. Since 1999, when the defender class '82 was a promising young man. Raised in Watford Doyley has the contract expires in June, there have been preliminary meetings to discuss the renewal, there will be even more. Maybe next week. It is an extension of one year, there should be no problems, because Doyley is a symbol and flag of Watford."
Yet another manager who won't attempt so sign him when he leaves! I actually think he probably deserves one more year as he is handy to have in the squad but won't be shedding a tear when his time is up
Couldn't have put it better myself. Give it another few one year extensions and he'll replace the hart/moose.
I've never got the Doyley thing. One of the poorest footballers I've seen at this level. Yes he's been good at one on ones, I don't deny that but limited would be an understatement. When I see him pass the appearance records of Watford legends of the past I find it staggering as he is just not even in the same ball park as any of those legends I've had the pleasure to watch.
KGT, I agree with most of your views on all things Watford but don't get your problem with Lloyd. Not the greatest player ever but a very good defender at this level. Best player for us at Wembley and rarely lets us down..
What I write about him is a little bit tongue in cheek but I seriously think he is very poor. Not everybody is against that view either and this hero worshipping thing is probably because nobody can quite believe that a player with his talent may go on to become the highest appearance maker. I know he has good game like the play off final but that doesn't make him a legend. I have never disputed his ability at one on ones, it's excellent but his positioning is not great and in times gone by his pace meant he got away with it. His ability on the ball and passing is nothing short of dreadful and please don't let anybody tell you that's fine because he's a defender and it's not his job. This is not 1970's and he is not playing in the old fourth division. I have never seen a player with less ability at this level. I don't dislike him, I'm sure he's a very nice bloke and I actually agree with him being given a new contract as he is handy to have around but can anybody honestly say he should not be talked about in the same category as Porter, Jackett, Gibbs or Blisset. He's not in the same ball park as these guys and honestly I think it would be a travesty if he went past Luther's record. Too late for most of these in the top 10 appearances bracket as with another season to come he will go past most of them.
I respect your opinion mate but I also respect the opinion of a lot of our former/present manager(s). Lots of players at this level with less ability, the Barnsley centre back springs to mind.
Whilst I respect your opinion it does not accord with the opinion of all the coaching/management we have had since 2002. Vialli, Lewington, Boothroyd, Mackay, Rodgers, Dyche, Zola and Sannino have all played Doyley on a regular basis and therefore must think that he has more ability than you suggest. Whilst question marks could be placed against some of these managers, it is interesting to note that he was an automatic name on the team sheet of the man who may be manager of the Premiership winners this season. Are you seriously suggesting that all these managers are unable to see how poor Doyley is?
I went to the Wealdstone v Watford game on Sunday and someone close to the club told me that they have been doing some of the contracts this week. Apparently, Almunia arrived at the training ground, got called into the office, and ten minutes later, got in his car and left. I know he's supposed to be injured but he decided he wasn't going to stay at the training ground. Could this mean he's been told his contract won't be renewed?
No I'm suggesting they had very little other options. Even Zola had a lot of defensive injuries. Sannino doesn't seem to play him that often. Of that list, how many came back for him?
I will give you the bit about the Barnsley centre back. Believe it or not somebody on the squad for next season thread thought we should buy him!!!
