When you read the actual quotes that the two Germans in question (Schweinsteiger and Heynckes) actually made it makes the headline and the short summary of the story on the back page even more ridiculous.

What they actually said is that they don't know him personally but have heard good things about him but think that Redknapp should have got the job.

Since this was published the German FA have released a statement criticising The Sun and reaffirming their respect for Hodgson.

There was an article in the sun about sean penn a few weeks ago. The headline was something like "Look what this idiots doing" and the picture was of him with a cigarette, filling up his car with petrol. The story went on about how he risked life and limb, with a terrible accident only avoided because...... He hadnt lit the cigarette yet... Upon a few seconds thought, its obvious that they've got a hate campaign because of his comments about the falklands. Its not just the sun, the broadsheets print stories to suit their political motives. Hopefully the fact that the Roy Hodgson is so blatently being picked on will actually improve the publics opinion of him?

Can I just make sure my intentions are clear on that post about The Sun being the UK's best-selling newspaper. I wrote it with despair. Every time I remember this fact, I die a little inside.

Nascot you are right. It does say a lot about the people who live in this dumbed down nation.

The Sun is a sorry excuse for a newspaper. England won't win anything with Hodgson in charge. However he is a decent man as of course is super Ray Lewington. And unlike most of the scumbag's who work at that redtop he can speak several languages.

They will not cease haranguing him until good old Arry is appointed. Arry is a charlatan and fraud and a man of very dubious character.

Hodgson is well respected in coaching circles and often gives seminars and lectures about the game across the globe. My advice is never buy a redtop or trashy celebrity magazine, stop watching soaps and reality TV. It really has lowered the mental abilities of a great many in the country.

Eh ? There are plenty of oik's and chavs and schoolchildren who can barely construct a sentence in English, without interpolating you know, like and other meaningless phrases into sentences and whose vocabulary is confined to a couple of hundred words.

Roy Hodgson speaks perfectly coherent English thank you. The only thing the Sun is fit for, is for wiping one's backside in case of a shortage of toilet paper. To think tree's are cut down to print this sort of **** day after day.

The so called footballing journalist's who write for this paper and it's ilk haven't got a clue about any of the other teams in the European Championships, let alone global football. Yet they masquerade as being expert's. They are a disgrace.

Taylor had to put up with the same ill informed attacks during his tenure.

Don't take it to heart. I was only joking.

Hodgson is a very decent, respectful man, but that will be his downfall. You have to be a bit of a geezer before the press will like you.

Sure, if he comes in and wins a few matches they will leave him alone, but as soon as we struggle against France, Sweden and Ukraine he will be as good as finished. He will be another "turnip" or "wally with a brolly". He doesn't stand a chance really, unless he is exceptional.

the fact that Hodson is highly respected as a coach by the likes of Ferggie, Wenger, Moyes and most premiership managers is all that matters.

Massive congratulations to Ray Lewington. Its nice to see good things do happen to nice people
