How do you know it wasnt Hodgson himself demanding those terms?



As far as the apointment is concerned.. well there wasnt a great deal of choice really was there? Bearing in mind that no English manager has led his side to a Prem title and only one has managed a team to FA Cup triumph in the last 15 years.. its no surprise that they have turned to someone who has seen success overseas.

 

Well as said above by El Distraido/Cheekey - if he was demanding those terms, then he wasn't the man for the job. Hodgson has never seemed like a greedy one, and as Redknapp has said - I think he'd probably be one of the proudest to lead England after the career he's had. It's not all about money, and yeah, I may be wrong... but I reckon the 4 year thing is more likely the FA's mistake, not Hodgson's demands.

Maybe.. it might not have been about the money. Perhaps from his point of view he wanted to take the job with enough stability to get past only one major tournament.
If i was in a position to to be offered the England managers position i'd like to think i had the time to work with the players towards the ultimate reward.. a place in.. and possible success in.. a World cup tournament.

It might well have been a move by the FA but i think people are too quick to jump on them for everything they do.

 

Surely the 4 year deal is about showing they've gone for the long-term option, the guy who is going to be around for a few years and help with the development of younger players etc. If they give him a 2 year deal, there is more fuel for the Harry Redknapp fire. Hopefully he can be the guy who finally lets go of Lampard, Terry etc etc and bring through some of the young talent we have, getting them ready for Brazil 2014 and beyond.

I'm not sure the training thing is too big an issue, he works with them a couple of weeks every few months. I'd say they've gone for him purely out of his organizational skills and tactical awareness.

I suppose it can be seen as an underwhelming choice, but long-term, I think it'll show the benefits. He seems like the sensible choice to me.

Wasn't my first choice but trust me neither was Harry!
With there being no expectancy to win this next tournament for the first time in my lifetime,hopefully Hodgson can do a good job and surprise a few people.
Although surprised Terry and Lampard didn't get the job as they seem to be doing very well in charge of Chelsea!!

 

I have a feeling we will do well at the Euros and/or the next World Cup. Just something unusual about the lack of expectation (as I perceive it) and the possibility there will be some fresh faces that will be eager to prove themselves. We'll see anyway. Happy with the appointment of Hodgson, I really like him.

 

I agree we have only mediocre players, and that's more of a reason we need a manager who will bring the best out of them. Someone who can take a collection of ordinary players and make them into a formidable team.

It is possible, and we should all know what Dyche has done for our team. Denmark and Greece have won the Euro's by seizing the moment and building on momentum. England need a manager who players respect and are inspired by with very good tactical knowledge. There are several managers who fit this bill and Hodgson would be quite low on the list.

As Dom mentioned, the poor bloke does not stand a chance.

 

Comparing the England job to the jobs he has done at West Brom and Fulham is ridiculous.

England may perform in a mediocre way but the players at our disposal, media attention and all round magnitude of the job is incomparable.

 

Joe Public has no idea what Hodgson's tactical capabilities are, and certainly cannot say that the players do not respect him.

Plus, there are not several managers who fit such a bill, because all English managers are rubbish. That is why we have to import capable managers from other countries, and why English managers are nowhere to be found abroad.

In fact, the only England manager who managed to prove himself capable of managing abroad, a certain Schteve, was ridiculed from the minute he got into the job and shunned after he left.

That ITV article is ridiculous. It's hardly news that only two football players have said much about the appointment on twitter in the few hours since the appointment has been made. Just because two other players said they fancied a different England manager all of three months ago we are to understand Hodgson as some outsider that nobody in English football wants...?

 

Just as I preditcted.....the bloke does not stand a chance. The press wont allow it.

 

They could have softened the p!ss taking with a good luck message as well, but this is England and everyone loves failure and misery!

Precisely, comparing the job he did for Switzerland would be closer..... Taking an international side to their first World Cup Finals for nearly 30 years and their highest ever World Ranking (3rd).

 

Decent appointment. Just because he isn't a media darling who wheels out the odd comedy soundbite doesn't make him any less capable.

I know it's The Sun but you'd think a vastly experienced and respected 64 year old manager would be treated with at least a modicum of respect.

 

I agree. I thought they should have waited until he f***ed up the Euro's before getting stuck into him.

 

Was it their journalist who asked at the press conference if Isiaiah Rankin was likely to get a call up?

I remember Murdoch saying in defence of The Sun's style that it was 'elitist' to say that it wasn't a good newspaper. That's like saying you're an elitist pig for not selling broken children's bikes in a car dealership.

 

Which sadly says a lot for this country.

 

Ray Lewington will become Hogdson's number two. I never had a problem with Lewington when he was at the club, and I found him to be a very good coach. I wish him all the best.
