I see WBA have given the FA permission to speak to Roy Hodgson about the England manager's job.

    Thoughts?

Wouldn't be my first choice appointment.

Hodgson showed at Liverpool that he could struggle at a big job where he would have to manage big egos under such pressure and scrutiny from the media.

He is a good manager and seems like a lovely bloke but I don't think that the England job is for him.

Redknapp is my first choice and I'm shocked that the FA haven't gone for him first. I just hope that they haven't been stupid enough to be swayed by Spurs recent poor form.

Mehh. I'm not convinced that he can cut it at the big time, high pressure jobs. He crashed and burned at Liverpool, but they are all ****heads to be fair, and it was a bit of a sinking ship at the time.

International experience counts...but did poorly at Liverpool and won't have the media onside like old 'arry would.

Personally though if the manager has to be english then is Woy for mean.

If he does get the job Paul Konchesky will be crying tears of pure unadulterated joy.

I can't help feeling he will be hugely out of his depth. He couldn't win over the Liverpool faithful and England is a job which is 10 times harder. Since Liverpool he's done pretty average with West Brom, i mean theyre hardly flying.

If he had the money Dalglish has had at Liverpool he would have done much better.

I don't get the love-in for Redknapp. How is he more suitable to manage England than anyone else?

I don't want Hodgson. Far too negative which is why he struggled to win games at Liverpool as he doesn't know how to set his sides up to do this.

Whoever is in charge, the outcome will be the same. Some sort of scandal will emerge a week or so before the tournament, we will scrape through the group and then limply go out in the knockout stage and everyone will rattle out a load of excuses about why we went out - and they will all skip over the point that the team is simply crap.

My thoughts exactly. Would have liked Harry to be given a chance and have softened towards Hodgson recently, so not going to lose sleep over it.

Sounds like he will get the job. Personally I would be underwhelmed but I wasn't convinced Harry would get it. The FA are going for the safe option. He is a real FA type of person.

To be fair he is a good manager, but he is the type who can get the best out of lesser players. When he is confronted with big time charlies, and has to rely on motivational skills, he seems to be lacking. The England manager has to be motivational as well as tactical.

The press will give him a hammering, as soon as he loses a game or two and it will be "Woy weally wues Wooney absence". I think he would be out of his depth and another appointment similar to Steve McClaren or Howard Wilkinson.

One of the things that would have worked in his favour is the fact that he has managed at international level before.

However, what no one seems to be mentioning is how poor a job he has done with those sides as well as other club teams that he has managed across Europe.

    Poor job he's done internationally?

Surely that's one thing you can't take away from him, his club record in Scandinavia is good but that's about as good a standard as Bushey Youth League 9th Division.

    I meant for international sides.

For example, his record when managing both Finland and Switzerland is below average at best.

He very nearly took Finland to their first international competition in ages with a god awful side, and took Switzerland to number 3 ranking in the world?

Finns loved him by the way fwiw

I think Hodgson is proven at overachieving with crap teams.

Perfect for the job no?

I quite like him. Purely because I like watching him litterally beat himself up when the opposing team scores.

I disagree. Gerrard, Ferdinand and Terry are the future of England.

I think he's a very good choice at this moment in time.

The England team are going through a changing of the guard period at this time and our Woy is a progressive improvement style manager. If he's allowed to use this competition to bleed the youth I think he'll have the makings of a very good side in 2 to 4 years time.

Good luck Roy! Come on England!

He would be the right person for the job.

Tactically very good and has done a good job at International level in the past with 'lesser' Nations.

I hope, if he does get the job, that he persists to play young hungry players rather than the same old 'failures' in previous tournaments like Lampard, Terry, Gerrard and Ferdinand.

I don't really care who gets the Ingerland job , but I just hope the press gets off whoevers job it is and give the bloke a chance, I can only see the press as a hinderance in what is an impossible job anyway.

Hodgson wont cost a penny as his contract with West Brom runs out at the end of the season, Spurs would've wanted millions for Redknapp. I'm guessing that's the main reason they've gone for Roy. Saying that, Harry may want out at Spurs if they don't get Champions League as the likes of Modric, Bale etc. could demand a transfer. Who knows.

The aformentioned, are exactly the sort of players I imagine Redknapp would have stuck with.

I'm sure the £10m Spuds were going to charge for him to leave had something to do with it...

It makes no difference, only one or two players in our team are world class let alone as a team.

I watched Sporting play the other day, they could wipe the floor with England and aren't even the best Portuguese team. English football is **** and full of idiot cloggers and nob heads.
