I can find nothing out about Laurence Bassini.

The Observer Owl has said that the deal is apparently quite far down the line.

He could potentially have the money required.

"Swiss residents could be forgiven for wondering if Novartis is in relatively good or bad shape Thursday morning, depending on which news sources they follow. The company’s annual report, published Thursday 27 January, shows net sales of $50.6 billion, up from $44.3b a year earlier. Net income was close to $10b, up from $8.5b."

Excuse me, is there a good reason why people are making the assumption that Laurence Bassani is really Luca Bassini?

About as close as Lloyd Doyley to Tess Daley.

The Observer Owl has said that it's definantly not Luca Bassani who's in the yacht industry, though they're not sure whether Laurence refers to himself as Luca.

Think huge credit should be given towards "fuxtix", who in his 6 posts since joining the forum has actually hit the nail on the head, and for a non regular poster has been the one who gave us the most correct information, detailed too. He never mentions Bassani as Luca and never states him as anything to do with Yachts. He mentions that he was involved in the Blackburn takeover and I think again here he is probably spot on, "fuxtix" do you have any further interest to who this guy is? Hope rumours in the comments of the WO article saying he's a del boy style failed businessman are far from the mark.

No credit necessary, I was just passing on the info that had been relayed to me.

I think it was mentioned to me that Bassani made his money in fish, but that might have been a misunderstanding of the term "marine industry" !!

I don't know too much more. The info I got was from a friend who, last year, had his knee replaced by Panos Thomas and has kept in contact with him.

For lots of reasons, this does not sound like the deal we were hearing about in November.

There is no person with the name Laurence (or Lawrence or Luca) Bassini ( not Bassani) named as a registered director of any company in the UK.
Now this is strange for a guy about to take over a PLC to have no business history.
Could well be an alias or smoke screen.
Anyone know anything more about him?

My belief is the Watford observer only printed because of chatter on here by the way.

Interesting stuff. I would suggest the WO hasn't gone and printed this purely due to what has been spoken of on here, and not purely because what someone may/may not have emailed to them, but that they would have checked it out with the club that it was OK to print... ? 1p per share seems a bit of an odd figure to me though, but then again, I don't exactly know a great deal about the stock exchange, takeovers and whatnot.

My view for what its worth is that regardless of the issues relating to identity, these guys clearly they have the money to buy the club . I hear from a good source that unlike the current major shareholders the consortium are true fans who really want to help put the club on a good financial footing so that we never find ourselves in our current financial situation again . Look what happened at sunderland when a good consortium took over the club

Why do they "clearly have the money"

I'm sure the same was said of Suleiman Al Fahim at Pompey, who didn't have a penny.

edit: if it is a consortium of supporters, that's great news though.

The board would have done due diligence and would have seen the colour of their money . Pompey was different . Privately owned by foreigners who didn't give a damn . Here the board is bound to remain. The surgeon lives in the area , is an ex pro , understands football , unlike our middle eastern friends , who, with respect only care about money . The surgeon would not tarnish his reputation in he wasn't well backed . It's clearly taken a long time to get to this stage and so the board would have done their job properly as well as the bond holders who would ensure the new guys have the money to repay the bond .

i thought the board investigate whether the people are worthy and able to run the club, inform the shareholders that they have a suitor and the people taking over the company actually do the due dilligence thingy - after all it is they who will be lumbered with any contingencies if the the legal stuff aint sorted proper like... do you think new owners will just walk in pay whatever for the shares and ownership and find that they got to pay £3million for an overdue account for Argentinian brasses....

Yes, fuxtix was spot on with the names back in November.

But then there was the other deal that was going to be tied up at the end of the week (in November) and we'd all look fooking stupid in a couple of weeks for not believing it was a done deal (in November) and we'd have loads of money in the January window (not just the money from Loach going to Fulham). Now we discover, nearly 3 months later that these people are just thinking about possibly making an offer.

Tomas and Bassini made a public statement on the stock exchange this morning - that's how the WO know. The statement said they'd made their initial approach in November with an offer of 1p per ordinary share. I presume that this 1p figure was subject to negotiation, so may well end up being quite alot more!
