Can vouch for that, had an IBM Thinkpad for work at my first finance job, was bombproof.

Ugh, that IBM thingy is what my wife has. I hate the little nipple thing it has instead of a mousepad.

Nope that's about it. My personal preference is for Firefox as a browser but whatever floats your boat. Just hope that HD is big enough for all the porn you're going to download now.

Bumping for my son to study as he is looking for a new laptop.

He wants to spend no more than around £300, he does not need anything super dooper!!!

He just wants it for using the net, playing one game, and he wants the usual sort of package e.g word etc. He also downloads and watches TV, also music on occasions.

Anyone got any "SENSIBLE" suggestions as to what to buy and where from ???

    Thanks in advance guys!!!

Your choice depends entirely on what game that is.

Speaking of which, I've just got a Dell Latitude E4310. It's pretty good, but the cursor keeps jumping when I type. I touch type and so, when I crack out a couple of paragraphs and then realise that I've put a sentence in the wrong place, because the cursor randomly moved, it creates havoc.

Other than that, it seems a nice, little laptop. I've got the option to swap it still, but I was wondering if Meister or the other computer folks had any opinions of similar compact laptops and whether it was worth considering anything else, before I commit to this one.

It probably happens because your palm touches the touch pad when you type (it has happened to me). Disable single-clicking on the touchpad and It should do the trick.

It's the way you type moogster. The heels of your palms are brushing the touchpad due to your limp wrists. You may improve this by turning off the tap to click option in the touchpad setup.

I've got an ASUS that does the same thing, it drives me mad! Also if I leave the cursor somewhere that is a link it will activate it on its own.

Yep it's that annoying tap to click thing. I hate it. You should be able to turn it off or at least reduce it's sensitivity. I have found a couple of latptops where you can't however. If that's the case then you'll have to disable it totally and get a mouse. Obviously get the mouse first.

    I've done it.

    Let's see how it goes.

So far, typed this with no issue.

    OK. Thanks.

Check whether the touchpad is showing in device manager. Should be under Mice and other pointing devices. If it's got a big red x through it It may need re-enabling or reinstalling.
