Saw Guardians of the Galaxy earlier this evening, surprisingly good and pretty funny in places. Probably Marvel's best film after The Avengers.

Finally saw Zero Dark Thirty. The film was criticized for it's depiction of torture, but I found it to be an important part of the story, and critical to understanding and not running and hiding from the fact that "...we did torture some folks". I'm glad the filmmaker didn't pull that punch or sugar coat it.

Don't think there's a way to say this without sounding rude (I'm honestly not trying to be!), but there is a TV Series thread

As for Lost, I absolutely loved it too, think its so underrated in terms of a series. Maybe it was partly down to the reduced level of social media advertising during its time as I can safely say I would probably not have watched Breaking Bad, Walking Dead, GOT, etc if it weren't for the recommendations on twitter, facebook, etc

Inbetweeners 2 disappointed me. It's decent, but I was expecting more. A few hilarious moments but too many try hard jokes and jokes that just aren't that funny. First film was better in my opinion and the TV series p*sses all over both.

A film that is as remotely as good as its tv series doesn't exist.

Agreed, take out the water park and the first night at the hostel and it really is a film trying too hard to be funny.

What we're they doing in the tv series then? Not trying to be funny? Developing the characters romance lives? Comedy shows are always trying to be funny. And if the writers care they will be trying their hardest.

    I liked it.

I've been recording the 'Terribly Good' themed films on SyFy and now I've watched a few my brain is melting into blancmange.

    So far I've seen..

    Piranhaconda
    Bermuda Tentacles
    Dragon Wasps
    Poseidon Rex
    Battledogs
    Stonados
    Ice Road Terror
    Arachnoquake
    Wyvern

They are all worse than awful yet somehow hard to not watch now I've recorded them.

Lots of shark themed ones still to see building up to Sharknado 2 - The Second One!

Was also slightly let down by The Inbetweeners 2. Just wasn't as funny as I thought it could have been - Wasn't expecting much from it but was hoping it'd be funnier.

I thought the series was better than the first film (Haven't seen the second yet), although the film was better than series 3, God, THAT was trying too hard, it was terrible.

    Today I've watched..

    Avalanche Sharks
    2-Headed Shark Attack

Awful awful films. Woeful, absolutely dire with little production value or acting talent. The special effects were especially poor while the music, if one may call it that, in both films was something akin to bad elevator music.

I wouldn't have missed them for the world!

Girls Gone Wild - Cancun Spring Break

A fly on the wall documentary very much in the style of Michael Moore. Essentially it's an anthropological study of higher education scholars during a seasonal respite from their academic demands. The film's main premise is documenting the cause and effect of ethyl alcoholic beverages most commonly ingested in the form of fermented barley and its reaction in the behaviour of the subjects when exposed to direct sunlight.

Definitely an interesting work if you have a scientific grounding in human biology.

You know what I mean, they were trying too hard, there were some scenes in the film where they overplayed the same joke until ot bordered on tedious and repitive.

I watched 'Shell' the other day and boy is that bleak stuff!

About a 17yr old girl & her father working & living in the Scottish Highlands in an isolated petrol station.
    It's lonely out there, s'all I'm saying.

Bleak and intense with very watchable performances from the two lead actors.

Rewatched "The Guardian" with Kevin Costner and Ashton Kutcher. Can't help but still love that film.

    Today I've mostly been watching..

Die Wand (The Wall), an Austrian/German masterpiece. Had me gently weeping at one point :'(

Basically a woman goes to stay in a lodge in the mountains with two friends and their dog.
Shortly after their arrival the friends decide to go to the nearby village pub leaving the woman and dog behind.

The couple don't return that evening or morning so the woman decides to walk to the village to find them but after walking a while finds an invisible barrier stops her from going any further.

It sounds ridiculous but is done in a way that is very normal.

The film then shows her struggles, losses and isolation over a three year period which is superbly told, filmed and portrayed.

A compelling film with no real beginning, middle or end but leaves you (well, it did me) asking plenty of questions about oneself.

Surprised no mention made of ****y. Consummate actor from 10 Rillington Place, 8 O'Clock Walk, Brighton Rock right through to Elizabeth. And Gandhi has to be one of the greatest biopics ever made.

I subscribed to Sky Movies a the weekend as it's only £1 extra per month and now I can see why. All those channels and the only thing I could find to watch was Kindergarten Cop, for the 1000th glorious time.

Strictly speaking it is moog as you well know. But everyone does it and despite all the ISP blocks they can do nothing about it. I have done it to see if a film is worth buying on blu sometimes.

I just watched The Beach with Leo Di Caprio as have never seen it before.

A really interesting concept that was well executed by Danny Boyle. Lad on gap year/travelling in thailand gets given a map by a stranger, and then travels to the secret beach on the map where he meets a load of other travellers who have set up shop. Needless to say everything eventually goes **** up, but an engaging story I thought.

    8/10

The book and the film are both great, but I highly, highly recommend the book. It really is a great read, and if you haven't been already, you'll be inspired to head to Thailand!

When I saw this after about 20 minutes I was asking my other half if we could leave. By the end I was asking when we could see it again. I may have mentioned it before but the soundtrack really makes this movie.

Always difficult when you read a book before the film but, yes, I think it is. Also, I certainly didn't have a picture of Leonardo Dicaprio in my head as the central character. Definitely think Ewan McGregor would have been more in keeping with the book. Read it - I'd be really interested to see what you think, reading it after the film rather than the other way around.
