Poor b*stard is already being slated and wrote off all over the shop after one league start. No wonder so many players come here and fail.
"Waste of space" is one I've read this evening. I'm know to give the players a tough wrap etc. but Jesus give the bloke a chance! He looked decent the other night against Notts Co and got a goal, yet after his first league start people are already calling him a "waste of space" and saying he's not good enough? Very harsh, setting him up to fail already.
How many games are you making your judgement on, ive been to every game so far including preseason, trust me Sordell has been the better of the two, i think Deeney will come good because he puts himself about but Sordell has had the edge thats why Deeney hasnt started a league game untill today.
The bold is the bit where this post stumbles - as you can't pass judgement on pre-season when both players are playing for different clubs. Opinions are opinions at the end of the day, and we will all have our own, which we are entitled to. However, Take the opposition that we pitched ourselves against in pre-season: Borehamwood, St Albans, Barnet, Northampton, Stevenage, Wealdstone and Charlton. You'll notice Charlton were the highest placed of those teams... in league 1, where Deeney has played nearly all of his professional football. Deeney wasn't even at Watford until the final hours of pre-season. Sordell featured in most of it. The key reason why Deeney was yet to start was due to rule 1 = don't change a winning team. Sordell started the season off alongside Graham - and did a good job as well, making Deeney's job of getting into the team even harder. I just felt based on today, where both of them were pitched against the same Leeds back 4, that Deeney was able to apply himself better than Sordell, and has more experience of first team football than MS, which will be crucial over the course of the 46 game season. Don't get me wrong, Sordell is a promising player, and will be useful this season, however, I reckon you will see Troy of Deeney alongside Graham when he returns to fitness. (Also, I can't see why we would have been so keen to splash £500k on the lad if he's going to benchwarm - surely we'd have just asked for Ryan Noble back? :biggrin
It's a squad game and I can see it being Graham and Deeney starting with Sordell coming on for the last 20 or 30 minutes when his pace will put the ***** up a tiring defence!!!
No fans love seeing their own players fail like Watfords! Don't worry though, the opposition keepers always guaranteed a standing ovation at the start of the second half! I reckon he'll do alright.
What's everyone's views on him? Based on this report he's been good for the team. http://fromtherookeryend.blogspot.com/2011/03/troy-deeney-doesnt-seem-to-have-been.html
He is a hard worker, but I am looking forward to seeing him have a run of games up front to see if we have signed a striker worth £500k or not. Any stick given to him before he has had a chance to show his striking prowess is unjustified in my opinion.
If Sordell had his work ethic then he would be one helluva striker, and would probably be getting a game now...
He's put in a lot of effort and has showed great skill. Seems to be coping on the wing reasonably, though it would be great to see him up front for a change!
Good potential and a grafter although still a bit raw. He needs an extended run in his best position to boost his confidence. A couple of weeks with Darius would do him good.
Now he has time to settle in and play in his more natural position we'll see more from the guy in a positive sense.
Racist. Deeney has been doing very well and seems to have adapted well to the position on the right wing. He is putting much more effort in and is getting more involved. Would still like to see him given an opportunity up front though when the time is right.
He needs a song - just unfortunate that 'we've got Troy Deeney-o' is already taken! Anybody remember Troy Tempest from Stingray? Deeney.....Deeney! Da-da da-da da-da http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E06cNv55jTs
Every time I've seen him play he's worked his @rse off and shown glimpses of quality. He's only 22 and I reckon will turn out to be a decent signing for us at 500k. At the moment basically having to 'do his bit' by covering in at right-mid but has done OK there.
Always thought he looked like he had something to offer but has never really been given a run in the side to show. Didn't help that some of the crowd decided they didn't like him and didn't give him a fair chance.
I think there is a good player in there waiting to come out. He needs a good run of 10-15 games up front, not in midfield. You can hardly judge him on these season's performances as he has virtually always been played in midfield or made cameo appearances. He works hard and can hold the ball up, probably the only striker who can. I hope he sees more action next season.
He looked quite good today, a goal would have been nice (11/2 anytime). What position was he supposed to be in today?
you are joking right? You highlighted the word cross-breed but failed to recognise the fact that I was suggesting cross-breeding abilities, not the players.
