Liverpool ask Fifa for special dispensation to sign Argentine midfielder Javier Mascherano on loan from West Ham.

They should say no. A rule is a rule.

We wouldn't have got permission if we had asked, but I bet FIFA allow it for Liverpool.

Didn't Tevez & Mascherano arrive at Ham through sketchy means in the first place? What are they trying to do with these cats?

I have to say they haven't really overwhelmed me, or even just whelmed me to date, though I had high expectations for them.

But a rather silly rule don't you think? "A player can't play for more than two clubs in 12 months" - why the hell not? Freedom of movement, right to work? I can understand setting a limit somewhere to avoid dodgy transfer marker manipulation but two seems an awfully low threshold.

Err the Champions League is run by UEFA (a different organistion). There are probably very few times people have wanted to get by this rule, seen as it has only existed since 18 months ago. FIFA introduced a raft of transfer regs in 2005 which are only now starting to be challenged by the clubs. Mainly cos they're a crock of crap. Hell, FIFA don't even know how to apply most of them to the real world. Once more Blatter's dream factory comes up with a steaming pile of carp and it's up to football clubs everywhere to challenge him ???

Okay, it is a silly rule, but the point is that we wouldn't get the permission so why should they?

Also, if the permission were granted, would they then stick to this rule in the future or modifiy/scrap it to avoid future 'case law' debates from other teams?

You don't know that. I honestly don't think FIFA are biased towards big teams.

Yup, they'd have to amend it or scrap it all together.
