No offence to the guys who started it, but surely it's "the more the merrier" with internet message boards. If you want to be on your own on the internet these aren't exactly the kinda places to be! And if you just wanna chat to your mates MSN is just crying out to help you. I can't imagine anyone thinks it's worse for having more people on board.
I think you have somewhat missed the point in the poll... The idea behind it is to establish if things are considered better for having so many of the people from the old boards on here.. as you can see from the results (once you have voted) as it is its a resounding yes. I think it is much better that there are so many new and old faces on here personally.
it would have been a bit better if everyone didn't all arive here at the same time, but its still better
I agree, old rivalries seem to have been left at the door to the most part, long may it stay that way.
We'll see in time I voted a little worse purely because my workload has increased tenfold, but that's changing. The whole point of this forum was one day to be as busy as this, plus I'm delighted we were ready in time for the flood to have a home. It's good to see it full.
But all you've done is proven my point! I entirely understand the idea behind the poll. My point is: why would anyone say no, it's an internet message board, the sole purpose of which is being part of a community. I'm just saying the poll is moot.
To be honest with you when the official site closed I was dreading some of the people from there coming here thinking it would degrade rapidly into more of the same, this thankfully hasnt happened however if it had happened I would have said no, not because I dont like being part of a community but because I like to be a part of a friendly community. Thankfully this is still the friendly community it was in the outset and that was the idea behind the poll, to see if that was how others felt also. I apologise if it has offended you in anyway UEA, that wasnt its intention.
WFCH ... come now, most of us are adult enough to stick up for ourselves and part of being a passionate WFC supporter is to have strong feelings on issues that affect us, the club and the team. Sometimes the most fruitful debates are when everything is anything but friendly.
I appreciate that, thats not what i meant. It is possible to have fruitful debates and keep it friendly and unobtrusive. The thing I feared most was the degredation to the point of needless rudeness and name calling that I found offensive on the main boards, thats not friendly debate as it should be. Fortunately no-one has deemed to go down that road, and those that have tried have been dealt with.
Definitely busier than it was, finding it hard to keep up with all the new posts...;D The first night I thought it was going to be just like the fishal boards but now seems to have settled down and it’s always good to have more points of view and discussions but we will have to wait and see in the longer term if people will revert to the behaviour shown on the fishal boards......
One thing someone said to me the other day via PM was they felt there was a bit of a them and us attitude from some of the longer standing members here, can't say i have noticed that but then i am not that quick on the uptake.
I think what they may be picking up on is the feeling that someone is in control here unlike the total anarchy they were used to. There are rules and they are enforced. It may be the inhibition of feeling like a guest and you don't know if you can put your feet up or help yourself from the fridge. I'm sure it will wear off.
I would like to point out that that is certainly not the case from any of the original users that I have spoken too quite the contrary, the increased numbers are very much welcomed as the community as it was was very small and although very friendly there was rarely any real difference in opinions and with all due respect to everyone i have come to know well on here prior to black wednesday when everyone agrees all the time theres little to chew over. I cant speak for everyone but i know that I was concerned at first that there was going to be a lot of the old site BS come over here but that has so not happened.. I still feel very comfortable here and not one new member has changed that so as far as I am concerned everyone is very much welcomed by me and from what i can tell everyone and we have a nice friendly larger community for it.
We're like the Borg. You will become part of the collective I think the fact we're so new ourselves definately helps. A long and very established board with long standing regulars being inundated with all the big personality's that come the new users would have caused major rucks. With us you've all arrived at the point where we needed the traffic. So we love you all
i thought most of the pre apocalypse members used the official boards as well to some extent. so its a little immaterial isnt it. i signed up in september and posted one message, do i count as pre closure member then?
