Is it just me, or does Zola seem to naturally attract some amazing talent for simply being Zola, that player from Chelsea who was one of the best?
I don't think it is just Zola but he certainly plays a massive part in all of it. I think it comes as part of the package. We're now a club moving in the right direction, that has a plan for the future, owners that know what they're doing and all this to go along with the resources to run a decent, steady ship. Zola was (probably still is) a top player and it just goes to show how well respected he is when people like McGugan go on to say that he was one of the reasons. Even players that were with Watford before the takeover. He has to be one of the nicest guys around and I really do think he has potential to be one of our greatest managers.
You don'ta geta crampa at this club. I don't want to make the link with GT simply because whilst they have done amazing things for Watford, they are 2 different people. They should both get the recognition. I certainly would like to think that Zola is going to be around for a very long time.
If zola were offered another job and took it, what big name could we get to manage us in his place, with the same respect and influence? There aren't many around that were outstanding footballers who've turned into good managers.
Zola frustrates me for a lil bit when he doesn't see it my way and it goes wrong, a la, the Peterborough game. However, at all other times I love him and hope he is around at our club forever and ever.
Certainly one of his weaker areas is the ability to change the style of football to suit the team we play against. As pointed out time and time again, there's no plan B with Zola.
I wonder who Zola would move onto? I can't really see him doing the Todgers-esque "I'm not leaving, linking me to Reading is an insult to my integrity" etc. I don't really think Zola would leave to many teams at present.
Wouldn't be overly surprised if at some point Zola is connected with Chelsea as a manager role if he gets us up.
Zola won't be leaving anytime soon. He's committed to Watford and wants to see things through. Zola is a man of real integrity, not Brendan Rodgers style integrity. When Abramovich took over Chelsea, Zola had already verbally agreed to finish his career at Cagliari. Abramovich offered him utterly ludicrous money to stay for another year at Chelsea, but Zola declined because he had already given his word to Cagliari. The man is a modern icon in every way. We are very lucky to have him here.
Or Barcelona, or Real Madrid, or Man Utd, or Man City, or Arsenal, or Parma, or Napoli, or Milan or PSG or....
Or Udinese? The two sons of Guidolin both live in UK, I think one just made exams to be FIFA agent and one is working as trainer at Harefield. And Guidolin said he won't manage other teams after Udinese in Italy, but he doesn't bar out a foreign experience. Not next year, maybe in 2 or 3 years, but an exchange of managers between Udinese and WFC "might" be possible, when Zola will have more experience and Guidolin will really want to try his foreign experience.
