This might be a bit extreme but unless I missed it the foil display never happened right? Well most of us agree that last season was one of the best seasons in our lifetime in terms of football quality, so perhaps a rookery foil display spelling ZOLA? I understand thats a lot of work but it would be a nice way of saying thank you.
I highly doubt that a foil display like that could be organised by Boxing Day, how about a round of applause and standing ovation at 25 minutes? (Only number I can think of that relates to him, Chelsea retired shirt number 25)
I think a memorial service at Wembley with a speech from Obama should just about give it the gravitas the situation requires. Though only do it if we can get the sign language clown.
Could we get Elton to sing a new song on a made up stage where the East Stand was? "Goodbye Gianfrancoooo Though I never knew you at all You had the grace with a football While those around you were top ballers You hit the woodwork And they whispered into your brain (play 4-4-2) They set you on the treadmill (to rectify the muscle imbalance) And they made you change your name (To Steve Clarke)" Guaranteed Christmas Number 1 or YellowYoda is not my songwriting partner.
I think he paid the club/fans alot of respect by falling on his sword. Seems he was getting embarrassed by these results and did what he thought was right, take direct blame for it when most others wouldn't. I hope something is done as a thank you for only our 2nd manager who can really be called a footballing legend. :zola:
Last season was indeed very enjoyable, but I think a tribute for someone who was only with us for 18 months would be over the top frankly. Because he was such a nice and genuine person, people seem to be losing sight of the fact that he resigned because our home performances were simply dreadful.
If thats not possible then i think that a standing applause will be brilliant. From the start of the 12th minute to the end of the 13th, to say thanks for that brilliant season he gave us.
This would be particularly fitting.. given the way in which Italians talk with their hands. In fact thats it. Not a minutes silence or applause.. but we should have a minutes Southern European hand gesturing.
Can't his face just be displayed on the screen, saying farewell to one and welcoming another? Can't be too hard.
