Zola must go for Watford to progress

Many people might say todays result was a well earned draw against a team in great form. Im not convinced. Defensively and tactically the team are all over the shop. Get Nani out, Zola out and bring in a coaching / recruitment team who know the Championship and know how to get out of it. Otherwise its mid table obscurity this season im afraid.

Watch us lose at home to Wednesday next week. :sick1:

Fark me Rick, soooo negative mate. Been going since 69 and I hate to see the "we should be top brigade " gobbing off.

So who would you like to come in who is currently available and capable of working within the constraints of the Pozzo project

Easy to say we need a change but be careful what you wish for

And in answer to the original post. Ask any scummer, they dream of middle table championship obscurity, as if it's the holy grail.

I actually think the new formation is the way forward but to really make it work we may have to move the squad around a bit in the January window. Maybe two new players and a few games bedding this in and we will be looking strong again.

Either way I personally hope Zola gets until the end of the season.

I thought that we were tactically sound against Burnley and a draw today was a good result whatever way you look at it considering the form Leeds have been in. Every team has a blip hopefully we have had ours. I have noticed a few people saying bring in a manager that knows the championship and bring in a championship proven goalscorer etc... But this would probably not work anyway first of all I struggle to see a championship level manager who could get the players we have playing well and winning, due to the fact that they may know the division but not the players. I can't think of too many champioship managers that have worked with a side with so many diffirent nationalities and continental players that have a completely different playing style than your average championship player. If we were to get a new manager he wouldn't be able to bring in championship players unless they were either dirt cheap of freebies like McGugan as we can't spend too much because of ffp rules. Do people really believe that Zola has not thought about signing championship proven players? We have to rely on the Pozzo pool and thats the end of it.

Quite frankly I think Zola is the best option for us

After taking just 36 points from our last 29 league matches.......I think it's more of a biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiip. (A very long blip). But I agree with you....Zola is the best option for us.

I'm not a football manager, but i would have take advantage of a 2-nil half time lead. I'd have gone to a massively defensive formation and killed the game. It may have resulted in a very dull game but a much needed 3 points.

Crystal Palace at home last feb, same deal...

As an arm chair amateur i can spot that, why can't the management on £hundreds of thousands per year get that?

  23. I'm pro Zola: I think he's one of the greatest players to ever grace the Premier league, one of the nicest humblest guys in any sport, and I applaud his determination to play attractive attacking football.

But... none of those things makes him a great manager, and that's my quandary.

We're being mugged weekly by less talented but more street wise players and managers. Given time some of the players will get there (the Abdi's) and some won't (the Neuton's) but I'm not yet convinced with Zola and even less so his coaching staff. I've reached the hokey cokey stage.

dull lifeless game 3 points; end-to-end, edge of your seat, scraping an 85th min equaliser for 1 pt...you decide!

after having time to reflect, zola needs to be given more time. in our last two performances we have shown some great battling qualities, and we still have a lot of quality to come back into the team. if we can shore up our leaky defence then i cannot see a reason why we cannot begin to climb the table. having angella back in defence will help and abdi in the midfield will improve things no end.

No, this was me telling Rick to **** off because of his trolling.

It was not an attempt at a point or in your case, a forlorn attempt at a point hindered by my lack of paragraphing knowledge.

It was simply me telling Rick to **** off.

    Thanks for your query.

Agree with this. Mid season is not the best time to change, most of the available candidates are those that have failed elsewhere.

Season seems to be passing us by, I personally think we should reassess in the summer when Zola's contract expires. The new incumbent should the Pozzo's feel a change be necessary will then have time to shape a new squad and take things forward.

Loving the new formation so well done to zola for changing that. I think zola should do his homework more he has a year of championship experience but acts like a novice in key moments of a match. At 2 up we should have looked at our last 2 home games when the opposition shut up shop when ahead. Plus zola always says he never sees a goal coming when it is most obvious. I think zola should have until the end of the season with full backing in the january transfer window but he needs to prove himself.

    Of course Zola should go, I've been saying that for the last 6 weeks and every week that goes by I'm more convinced. I'll give you many reasons why;
    1. Worst home run in 20 yrs and we've had some poor teams in that time!
    2. Not scored in last 3 at home
    3. Defence continues to be shocking
    4. 1 decent home performance this season-Bournemouth
    5. Not replaced vydra
    6. Lost chalobah so panicked and got in McEachren & Thorne
    7. Took far too long to change formation
    8. 2 nil up at Leeds; what did he say at HT? Then says 'we handled the game well!!'
    9. Should have gone up last season but his team changes etc threw it away and the final was a disgrace
    10. We have gone backwards since last season and in reality have been average since feb & wolves away
    11. Cliques in the dressing room that he's too soft to sort out

I could go on... But most importantly Zola clearly stated at that the start of the season that top 2 was the aim, on this he has failed.

    Now please give me some reasons to keep Zola that don't include;

    1. He's a nice bloke
    2. We're only Watford mid table championship is decent
    3. We could be in administration etc
    4. Who would replace him - that's the pozzo's job.

I think the pozzo's are great for this club & duxbury is doing a good job off the pitch but as Zola proved at West Ham, he's an average manager and we'll never get promoted with him in charge.

Stop the apathy and look at the facts.

    *5 years.

And how can you criticise Zola for not effectively replacing Chalobah and Vydra when player recruitment isn't even his responsibility?

Once again, people who don't even seem to have a basic grasp of how our club and most other modern day football clubs are run showing themselves up as being completely uniformed and angry at things they don't even understand.

It's very easy just to look at just the negatives, but there's far more to it than that. Zola brings a lot to the table. He's the perfect link between players and the owners. The Pozzo's want to have interchangeable staff between all three clubs (not talking about head coaches), but other more specialised coaches. They need to have someone that is from their cultural background and will accept this way of working. I think that is important for them. Zola also knows English football which is very high on the tick list when looking for a manager.

Players all want to play for him and if you talk to anyone within the game they all enthuse at what a good coach he is.

Over the last couple of matches he has got a response from his team. It's clear for everyone to see.

If we lose badly next Saturday, then it would be difficult to defend him, as Watford are certainly underachieving, given the players he has at his disposal, but losing a man like Zola is not a decision you make lightly.

Your point number 4 of reasons not to give cannot be included as it's a very important and valid question. If you sack Zola, then who else comes in that has all the positive qualities of Zola, plus is a better manager? Just saying that's the Pozzo's job is a cop out.

Points 5 & 6 are not down to Zola. This is more Nani's area, so you cannot tarnish Zola with that. Point 11 has no factual substance, it's just hearsay. I've heard the exact opposite.

Your other points are valid though, and the defence is shockingly bad and so is our home form.

With Zola you get a mixture of good and bad things. You have to measure if the bad outweighs the good.

Personally I think you have to give Zola huge credit for getting us close to promotion last season, instead of blaming him for failing at the final hurdle.

This season has been poor though, but the last two performances have given some hope. If we get another Yeovil type performance next week, then that will all be undone, but I'm hopeful we will do far better. I fear for his future though if Watford lose next week though. I have to be honest about that, but right now he deserves our backing and the benefit of the doubt.......IMO
