You obviously never watched Zola's side with west-Ham,getting beat every week, and he quoted "I just want the players to play football with a smile on there faces and to be happy"!!

    Dyche or Zola?

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/may/11/gianfranco-zola-west-ham-manager

In 80 games, Zola won just 23 while losing 36, a success rate of just 29 per cent.

    And?

What were Boothroyds, Rodgers and Mackay's pedigree before they joined the club?

Oh. Yeah. First job. Guess we shouldn't have employed them based on their 0% win rate.

Do you remember what situation the club was in when Zola was in charge? Oh, and remind me, how did they do after they sacked him?

I'm against Dyche going but you're bring too harsh on Zola.

IMHO sacking SD & replacing him with Zola would be a completely mad thing to do. Sacking SD & replacing him with almost anyone would be slightly mad IMO considering the season he's just had (although I appreciate they might want to bring in their own man), but replacing him with Zola would be particularly loopy. In his final year at Spam he resembled a frightened rabbit caught in the headlights when interviewed & his team played like a bunch of clueless, talentless strangers.

I credit the new owners with more than enough intellengence & wisdom not to do anything quite so foolish. We shall see.

Dyche did well last season with no pressure on him. Anything higher than relegation (in the eyes of the media) was an overachievement.

Hypothetically there is as much chance of him not being able to repeat last seasons success as there is Zola repeating the end of his West Ham career.

Moose_talksport tweeted me about Zola being very likely to happen. I'm now being innundated with tweets from West ham fans about nani, Zola and duxbury, and how unlucky we are...

why dont we all just wait and see what happens, I am just happy to be in a situation where we are arguing over the merits of two managers instead of wondering which unknown one will be brought in to manage our club as we have over the last couple of managerial changes

Dyche = proven to be able to work with nothing, understands the club, has been part of the club for a large period of the last ten years, has got rave reviews for his player management and led us to our highest league finish for four years with a squad assembled from toothpaste and matchsticks.

Zola = no experience in the second tier, not much more management experience than Dyche, did poorly at West Ham with shedloads of money buying terrible players. A manager who wastes money is not a manager I particularly want at the club.

That said, comparisons with Vialli are idiotic. What will happen will happen and if Zola comes in than obviously that is that. But I don't understand why people think he would be a good choice. He might be a fantastic choice who leads us to the Champions League final of course, but on paper there is nothing to suggest he is a good manager at all.

Less talking, more waiting to be honest. Its not like we have any say on what will happen so we might as well just wait.

It would be veyr nice to reward Dyche for his loyalty and it makes far more sense to retain him. I am very loathe to see him go.

However the Pozzo family have placed their faith and finances in the club which might have been in serious trouble otherwise and the academy review is likely to thus give us grade 1 status which is vital for the future.

Zola had a rough time at West Ham but bear in mind he had to sell many players and did have a long injury list. Nani did well at Brescia. If we had the attitude no coach should be allowed a second chance many sucessful managers would never had the careers they had. Take Gus Poyet when he was assistant at Tottenham or our very own Todgers when at Reading.

I doubt sympathy is high on the list of the Pozzo family's attitude towards football as a business and should Zola struggle then I'm pretty certain they'd make the necessary changes rather quickly.

I had thought perhaps di Canio although a little unstable might have been a candidate having managed to get Swindon up and playing attractive football.

Zola will have learnt from his time at WHU and I'm sure there is no doubt some residual resentment from Hammer's fans not only against him that colours their views but the fact that it might have been their club that had been accepted into the Pozzo fold.

Zola had 18months in charge at west-ham,His record is not viewing content.he was also sacked for a breach of Contract for which the owners were prepared to go to court for.My point to my comments when I posted my 1st comments is nothing to do with the club being saved, this is purely my preference of manager.I do not see the need of getting rid of Dyche and to disrupt the playing squad. We are only a month or so away from the start of the season and Zola has no insight to any of our players, this is my point. If 1 thing make sense to me it would be that whoever came in would work with Dyche.I think all this speculation on His future so close to the new season is uncalled for.

Also it was only may that Zola was being touted for the Lazio job.

You ignore the fact transfers were taken out of his hand by the club and Nani pretty much ran the show!! Gold came in and said the whole squad was for sale, apart from Scott Parker!!! Also ignore the fact Zola finished 9th in his first season before guiding them after the Gold shambles to safety in the following season.

I for one would be pleased to see Zola. Its not his fault the owners want a new boss, so we should be supporting him.

As for Dyche, if he's sacked it will be incredibly cruel, and I hope he stays in management rather than joining Malky, when he inevitably offers him an assistants job.

Bear in mind it's highly unlikely under the Pozzo setup that the manager/head coach will have total control over players coming in and out. Dyche might not want to work under that scenario even if he's given the opportunity.

I can't believe how fickle some of you lot are. Last season he was the best thing to happen to Watford and now that we are being taken over your quick to be rid of him. Dyche did a fantastic job last season for us and he deserves a second crack of the whip. I understand that the Pozzo's can come in and change whoever they want at the club but without Dyche there was a strong possibility that we would be a League 1 side. Some people should not be so dismissive of Dyche.

That being said if Zola does come in I will support him 100%. Zola had a very good first season at West Ham before falling out behind the scenes with the owners.

No one want's to see Dyche removed Dom. But that's the reality of the situation. Whoever comes in, as has already been mentioned by several previous authors needs out full support.

    2) Most signings were free transfers or loans

Excellent thread and discussion so far....

    A few quick points...

Obviously a manager's past CV is important but it's not the be all and end all. Sometimes a manager just ends up at the right club and the rest is history. Rodgers was average with us and useless at Reading but then took Swansea up. Zola's lack of experience in the Championship is a worry and as posted elsewhere, Nani and Duxbury were judged badly at West Ham..but who is to say they all might not find Watford and the Pozzos the right place to be, learn from their West Ham days and do sterling work.

If Zola comes, I too will feel very sorry for Dyche (and lets not forget Woan and TL too as surely they'd be out of a job as well) and I'd worry we'd be starting again next season and without the benefit of coaches who really know our division. However, as has been pointed out here earlier, sometimes clubs who sack managers controversially when to the outside world they seem to be doing well, reap the benefits. Not only Newcastle who have already been quoted here..but also Sheff Wed getting rid of Megson and Huddersfield getting rid of Clarke after a 40+ unbeaten run..both decisions seemed harsh but both got promoted!

I would love to see Dyche stay but realistically I just dont think the owners will allow it. You never know though and if he does, I will back him like I did last year, if he does not and its Zola or whoever else, I will back them too!!!

Would be gutted for Dyche if he ended up somewhere like that. He would probably be better off going back to Chesterfield. Heck, even Forest. Apparently you can get yourself in contention for the Netherlands job by failing there.

  27. El distraído

I would absolutely love it if Dyche were given the chance to stay, but I know it's not that simple.

The Pozzo's have spent millions acquiring our club, and not only do they have the right to run the club how they want but they will certainly have a game plan to do it their way, and may see Zola as part of that. I feel bad for Dyche if Zola steps in, but Dyche is a talented manager and will undoubtedly get a job elsewhere (not to mention a nice payoff too) so there are no real problems for him.

I see no point whatsoever in any appeals or anger towards the club in any way if Dyche is dismissed. I don't think it's the right move personally, as it's clear for all to see that he's done a cracking job and the players love him but as I say, the Pozzo's are free to do it there way, so if Dyche goes, he goes with my blessing and I will still get behind Zola and the Pozzo's 100%.

I would point out though that too much change too quickly is almost never a good thing. If you were Murray for example, you would have gone away for you holidays and seen Dyche, Baz and GT at the ground beforehand, only to report back for pre-season training and find Duxbury, Nani, Zola and Gino Pozzo there. They may be lovely people, but I really do think that with the monumental changes going on in the club now, it would be great for the players if Dyche was given a chance. Even with all this ambition and success the Pozzo's have, I'd imagine that it's fairly easy to become disillusioned if you report back the entire playing staff have been replaced. I'd know I'd be a bit miffed.

In conclusion, I would love to see Dyche given a chance by the Pozzo's, but would not kick up a fuss if they get rid and appoint Zola, though I think it's the wrong decision myself. The Pozzo's saved us, and have already earned my support for that alone.

How likely is it that we will bring in players that will cost a hefty amount? Not very.
As mentioned many times previously, we will see a number of players coming from Udinese. some of which have been scouted previously, so should have some quality
We already have some decent players to go with the above incoming, so IMO I believe our situation is different to what went on at West Ham.

Nani will have a say, but perhaps not the cash to splash

SD may not like the situation and may not be in charge, but even with Zola in charge I cannot see the Pozzo's throwing money about like it's going out of fashing to get us promoted.

Zola's record as Watford manager will be judged by his time as Watford manager.

His record as Watford manager won't be judged by what he did at West Ham. That's now irrelevant.

Ditto Nani and the transfers he makes for US.
