Wobby reporting on twitter that the Italian media have been told by the Pozzos that Zola is the new boss. Expect an announcement later after the staff meeting

He's been sounded out for other jobs. He'll be fine.

Welcome Gianfranco. Let's give him time, its not his fault he's taken Sean's job or he's the same nationality as Vialli! Shame for Dychey though, I hope every fan appreciates the job he did here.

I would go as far as to say it was out of order to get rid of Sean. I say this because his one weakness was the quality of players he brought in, and that weakness would no longer have been relevant under the new regime.

But I completely agree with what you're saying Hornet23.

You could say Malky, Rodgers, Aidy et all had the same weakness. Yes he bought in some dross but he also bought in some quality like the others.

I think Dyche's transfer record was worse than any of them, and yet he easily did a better job than two of them. I know it's not as simple as this, but that's why I felt he would have been the perfect man to coach a team, while the players were being signed for him by a respected scouting network.

There is one area people here seem to be ignoring, and that is the difference between a 'manager' and 'head coach'.

Now to my knowledge, a manager has the rule over everything, including the signing of players. The head coach on the other hand has the rule over everything, except the signing of players, as that is handled by the director of football, head of recruiting, scouts etc.

It is very possible that this 'head coach' system is the system over in Spain and Italy, and it has undoubtedly been the route of the Pozzo's success, since it has been the Pozzo's scouting network that has identified all the talent.

The Pozzo's may have been 100% sure that they wanted a head coach in place at Watford, and not a manager, so it could be that they spoke to Dyche when they took over and said' listen, we would like you to stay on, but we will be bringing in our own people to sign players. You won't have nearly as much freedom as you did, and Ross Wilson won't be here anymore.' Dyche may then have decided that the head coach role wasn't for him, so now the Pozzo's are going after Zola who seems more keen on this.

    Just a thought.

I'm not ignoring that. I'm saying that based on his record so far, Dyche would have been an even better head coach than is a manager.

I simply don't believe that he would have walked on that basis.

What does Zola know about the champ he was **** at west ham
well i guess it will please the fans that have always wanted a big name but i still remember Gianluca Vialli he did not have a clue he wanted our players to do what he could do
the only good thing i can see about having a zola has manager is that he can talk the language

Maybe Zola is SD’s translator? I mean when he has got 15 **** in the match day squad how’s SD going to get across that he wants to hoof the ball into the crn and the players run like f**king headless chickens……………….

Not happy with this appointment would of liked Dyche to of been given a chance. Pozzo's money and they can do whatever they want with it i guess. Will be interesting to see what Dyche does next.

The only thing I am happy about is that the Pozzos seem to be setting their stall out. They're not appointing Zola to finish slightly higher than 11th, they're appointing him with the expectation that we will be contending for promotion.

I feel for Dyche greatly here but, Zola brings a big name to the club and being one the best technical players English football has ever seen, could be fantastic at neutering technical young players such as Murray.

Good first post. The youngsters can learn a lot from such a talented player.

I think some memories of Vialli are clouding judgements here. No, Zola doesn't know much about the Championship but then how much did Di Canio know about League 2 before he took over Swindon?

Ben foster not happy on twitter calling the decision a 'disgrace'. hard to disagree.

The young WFC players going out on the town on the weekend, banging anything in sight and living up their youth? Fair play to them. Neutering is a bit of an over-reaction isn't it?

I feel extremely sorry for Dyche but rather this happened now than 3 months into the season, which would have inevitably happened if we weren't in the top 3 by December.
