Just to clarify, I was not advocating we get a **** to manage us. Just that shouting at players sometimes works.
Has to know England? Zola had two years managing in England, one successful, one not. Wouldn't say he's that experienced when it comes to English football. Pochettino didn't know a lot about England did he.
I suppose Anya owes it to Zola, turning him from an underachieving journeyman to an International & one of the best players outside of the Prem.
I don't necessarily think it follows that just because Zola comes across as 'nice' in the press that he isn't as ruthless as other managers. I'm not for a change at this point because for me it's the recruitment that was wrong. We have been trying to succeed a bit on the cheap. We should have paid good money for one or two proven Championship performers rather than stock the team full of promising, but unfinished development players. We have the window to fix this. A proven goalscorer in form. A proven defensive mid. A reliable Championship act of Paul Devlin calibre. Cut out those who won't be involved.
Ikechi @IkechiAnya 1h I've seen a lot of opinions tonight which is cool after all that is what social media is about and i respect them but in my opinion watford fc are very lucky to have zola as a manager. far from brown nosing as in 2012 when i was in the stands/bench (due to him) i was sayin exactly the same to now being a starter and scottish international (part due to him ). my integrity as a man will always trump any football matter just the way i'm built... but at the end of the day real recognise real
I hope he stays, the players get their collective arse in gear, we win a a four or five games on the bounce and everyone tries to conveniently forget that this thread was ever started.
Its got to the point where I would rather have someone who's been round the block with experience of getting teams up who I dont particularly like, than a really nice guy who is cocking it up. A Neil Warnock type. Didn't like him but he's got teams up with a no nonsense approach. Then once we're up and lose a few premiership games sack him and get a big name in.
As Steve Clarke has just been sacked by WBA, offer him a partnership to help GFZ. They're mates. It'd work.
I'd prefer to maintain my morals and idealogy than grow a 'win at all costs' mentality. That's just me, though.
Just back from my 138 mile (each way) journey from yet another home defeat and ... yes it was a long drive, particularly as I seem to lose TalkSport/FiveLive/BBC3CR soon after leaving Hertfordshire. Thoughts on the game ... well we were pretty clueless but then the starting 11, omitting FF and McGuigan just baffled me. Really pleased to see Fitz Hall play and if there was a positive then him and NN could make a very good pairing at the back (again). Like most football fans (the sane ones) I really do like and admire GFZ and so much wanted him to succeed here as, lets face it, its far more 'Watford' to have a genial chap in charge. I've just listened to his post match interview ... and unless the Pozzos can talk him around my thoughts are 'He Will Walk' as he sounded so downbeat and lost ... which is a shame. Our season is not dead and even with GFZ we won't be relegated (trust me) ... but at the same time we won't achieve what this squad is capable of in the short term. Maybe next year .... but not now ... and lets face it some of the recent loan/transfer dealings have not exactly embellished our squad so it really is stick or twist time if we want to make the best of the Jan transfer window. If it were down to me I'd encourage GFZ to stay (not necessarily with his current job title)... but bring in someone else to work alongside or above him.
This may be one of the worst ideas I've ever heard and is a perfect example of what Watford fans have become. Basically 'use' a manager then dump them for a big name. ****s sake.
Gone by 12pm Monday. Whoever comes in has there work cut out, three clear divisions in the dressing room and at least 2 rotten apples. Too much for the nice guy to sort.
They are knocking those walls down and they'll be gone by March. As for the rotten apples, they should really complain to Lindley and get the fruit bowls replaced.
Where's Poyet when you need him? At least we choose when our manager leaves us, not the other way around.
Whats the point in getting in someone like Warnock who may get us promoted, but then will proceed to do **** all once we're in the prem. We're better off getting some solid foundations over the years in place ready to compete in the prem.
I'm not going to derail this thread and so have a good evening all. Oh go on then...........one final laugh before i log off. Lost at home to Wednesday
