Without the anomaly of Matej Vydra in a mercurial vein of form, Gianfranco Zola's Watford are a lower mid-table side in this division. That is a statement of fact. On paper we have a side that could possibly challenge for promotion. Certainly, far weaker squads than we currently have at our disposal have been led to promotion from this league by managers who know how to make a team punch above its weight. What we currently have, however, is a manager whose ethos will ensure that we continue to punch well below our weight. Vydra's vein of form, wherein he couldn't stop scoring braces, was an anomaly that cannot be legislated for, but it flattered to deceive and is the reason why Zola remains in his position. The fact is that a 25 goals a season striker whose efforts were more evenly distributed would not have lifted us above where we now sit in the table. We will certainly finish no higher with the current sterile playing ethos, despite the calibre of our current playing personnel. One hopes for another Vydra-esque anomaly to propel us amongst the promotion contenders, but we may wait generations before we see the like again. What we require is management that is capable of deploying a team that punches to its weight at the very least. Sadly, we have not had that since Mr Dyche left us. Kindest regards, Richard.
I trust you were saying this throughout last season and at the start of this season? Or are you just jumping on the bandwagon and not being loyal to a man that has brought some of the most entertaining football ever to the vic, and one of the best endings to a match ever. I think we are missing Abdi massively, once he is back I can see us making a real push.
I think the pozzos will act if we don't win in the next three games he is out. Re the above post Zola didn't have anything to do with the Leicester game ending. I think he is a great guy was a great player but an avarage boss
On paper, you can't spell the word 'winning'. Does that mean you can't, or did the tools at your disposal let you down?
Out of interest were you saying this when we were in the play off final? Or is this just because we are on a poor run of form?
**** posts so infrequently, who knows. He's like the wind. Blows hard sometimes but generally adds nothing to life.
The problem I would have is keeping track of all the passwords ( but what if they all had the same password?)
For a manager that doesn't play 'wining' football, he sure does have an impressive win percentage. One of the best of any WFC manager ever, isn't it?
