Gianfranco Zola has reached an agreement with Watford, now missing only the ad. We anticipate the numbers: Two years from 400 000 euros per season plus bonus. Among the staff there will be Adolfo Sormani, former coach of the Spring of Naples, and Giancarlo Corradini.

They will need to hit the ground running as time is not on our side particularly if they want to bring in new players and integrate them into the squad.

I like how this gets relayed. Firstly in the Italian press, next day in the English press, four days after that on the official Watford site.

    Thank You!

As Hollywood was saying elsewhere, likely to be announced officially on Monday then.

What can you tell us about Giancarlo Corradini, Udinese? I believe he worked with Cappello?

We really are going for a full-on Italian coaching team it seems!

No probs ... just me being a smart arse, good news all the same.

Just hope Zola has the character for the nPower ... and he'll need to weed out a few from our squad.

On the money front, if the figure of 400,000 Euro is true, that's currently £317,000 on today's exchange rate..or £6,000 a week.

Does that not seem rather cheap for a manager such as Zola?

That's what I thought. I wouldn't do the job for less than twice that.

Excellent, if to be believed, on the cheap too, which means he's not doing it just for a payday.

I wouldn't read too much into that mate. I mean how are the press going to know his salary? They will make a guestimate and run with that. Having said that, I wouldn't think it would be too far off the mark and is probably overloaded with bonuses for achievements and success.

At the end of the day, Zola's managerial record to date does not really command a higher starting salary.

right, bonuses are the key, plus low salaries is a typical Udinese policy.

£6k/week is breaking our wage structure.

Yes he worked with Capello and also with Lippi at Rube. But I don't know much about him.

The Pozzo's may have a new wage structure, we dont know yet what it is.

Who cares if they get us up, they own the club, they know what they can and cannot afford.

    All aboard the Pozzo Bus!

Whilst I'd agree, the only thing at the back of your mind is you want the club to still be semi-self sufficient for when they leave, as they will at some point, whether that's in a year, five years, or fifteen years. We don't want them to sell up, and be taken over by someone who can't sustain the previous regime's budgets.

And Deschamps! Had two games as Juve caretaker manager after the Frenchman quit, and lost them both.

Sacked after just 2 months of his first proper managerial role in Serie C.

    Coached in Serie D.

His Wikipedia entry has nothing since 2009!

If (and as HB1 says its a big IF as it's only a journo speculating) but IF they've got Zola as manager at 6k a week basic, that's a good piece of business!

this is classical Pozzo good piece of business! It has his TM on!
that's why I considered the news rather reliable.

Plus the money it cost to remove the coaching staff we already had, of course!

Btw Udinese, in Italy do people talk of money like this in terns of grosso or netto? Is the 400,000 Euro quoted here, likely to be before or after tax? Our top tax rate here is 45% I think

Corradini may have a poor managerial record but he has worked with some top coaches like Lippi and was a very good youth team coach.

I guess he'll stick to that side of things and working with the defence and Zola with the midfield and attack.

I am quite optimistic about Zola taking over.He strikes me as the kind of person who would work quite well with a team of no ego's, like ours. He's too much of a nice guy to work successfully at West Ham, the amount of players on 50k a week etc.Dunno, maybe I'm wrong but the glass is half full from my point of view.
