Zaha wants to leave

I’m aware of that. But when fans/media talk about transfer budgets, they don’t talk of them as being a budget for the first set of instalments on any deals.

When it was claimed Arsenal had £50m to spend, I don’t think for one minute people thought ‘well they have £150m to spend - £50m is just to cover the first instalments’

    Anyway, it’s Arsenal. Who cares.

    Mr IBB does!
He hasn't really recovered from Wright leaving for the Arse.I'm not sure how he'll cope with Mr T going there too.

Yep guess the £40 million budget is fake news. One of the board this week said he had heard the figure a lot but it didn’t come from them. He said the budget would be competitive but restricted due to no champ league involvement. What figure that is is anyone’s guess.

Everton in talks with Juventus over Moise Kean according to SSN. They reckon it’s for £40m or thereabouts.

If they get him and Zaha, that’s very good business.

Obviously Zaha is a very good player, one who I was expecting to end up at a slightly bigger club, say Arsenal, Dortmund or even Bayern, so signing him would be a minor coup for Everton if it happens. However, his favourite position on the pitch is the same as Richarlison, so it's a bit odd from that respect - not sure how they intend to accommodate both.

Kean also looks a good buy, reminds me a bit of Lukaku when he moved to Everton. Although I reckon Kean is a bit better than Lukaku technically, but not quite as much of a goal threat. Lukaku's goals also only ever helped Everton to finish higher than 7th once (and that was in his first season, while on loan from Chelsea, when he scored 15 and they finished 5th). Even with Lukaku scoring 25 league goals in 2016/17 they only finished 7th, and I'm not sure Kean will be a 20+ goal per season striker for them.

They also still need to find top top replacements for Zouma, and Gueye to crack the top 6 again (supposedly their defence has looked very shaky in pre-season without them), but if they get the signings they need they'll be well placed to do so given some of the other big clubs' question marks.

Whilst he plays on the same side as Richarlison, they both have attributes to suggest they can play on either wing, I think it would be a major coup if they got him, not just a minor one.

It’s interesting that they are selling Gueye. I know he wants to leave but I’m not sure I get the sense in it unless they want the money - they are supposed to be building a side to break into the Top 6. You don’t do that selling your best players. I would have thought Delph was signed to replace him but it appears not. Zouma was good for them - but he was terrible for Stoke the year before so the jury’s out for me in just how much of a loss he would be. It means they need another CB of course but I’m not convinced he needs much replacing. And there’s always a chance he demands a move as he is unlikely to start for Chelsea.

At the risk of upsetting Toffeeblue9,why would Kean leave Juve for a team not in the CL or Europe?
Are Everton offering huge wodges of cash or is the racism driving Kean from Italy?
I thought he was more mobile than Lukaku and still very young.
    Very odd rumour.

I thought Zaha wanted Champions league football - even Arsenal cannot give him that or has he realised no-one in the top 4 wants him or in Chelsea's case cannot buy anyone?

More mobile, but not as much of a goal threat.

Saying that, Lukaku was far more mobile when he was a teenager and first arrived in England than he is now.

It is a rather odd rumour. Maybe he's keen to be a regular starter somewhere, and the general consensus is that he's not ready yet to be a regular starter at a CL club, even if he may be in future. He is still only 19. Supposedly Juve want a buy-back option in any deal, which would mean the deal would make more sense, as it turns in to more of a medium-term loan until he's maybe a bit more ready.

If he's not quite ready to start for a decent CL club, then Everton and the PL would still be more of a draw and financially better off than most EL level clubs in other leagues (and also Juve might not want him to go to another Serie A club).

Juve supposedly trying to make space to sign Icardi from Inter.
If Juve were open to a loan deal, I'd like Gino to put in a quiet bid. I'm sure he has must have decent relations with the Juve hierarchy.

For sure I'd be happy with him leading the line here next season, but I suspect that Everton would be a more appealing move for the player, even on loan.

The latest from SSN is that Everton have made a £55m bid and no player involved. A bit different from their reports on Friday saying £60m plus Tosun.

I think Palace would be tempted by the original offer, but not so much the latest one. I don't think Everton understand this bidding process. You are meant to go up with your offer.

I think Zaha and his agent have mis-read the transfer market somewhat. I reckon he wanted to leave back when he signed his new contract and only signed on the condition that Palace would agree to sell him for a set fee (like what I imagine we've done with Doucoure).

But clubs are mostly getting smarter with their transfer business. If the price quoted for Zaha is the same price that Arsenal are apparently paying for Pepe then that becomes a no brainer - they're both similar players, for similar fees - except Pepe is 4 years younger. Zaha is approaching 29, usually when most wingers start to decline and you'll have practically no resale value if you try to get rid when he's 31.

That's likely why Arsenal tried to lowball with their offer - they knew they'd only likely get 2-3 seasons of quality out of Zaha and not get much back financially after. Pepe could set the league alight for 2 seasons then make a mega move to City/Real etc which would allow Arsenal to strengthen further. Same reason why nobody has taken Alderweireld for his ridiculously cheap 25m release clause - he'd want a 3/4 year contract on 150k+ a week...which considering he's 30 is quite the gamble when you'd probably have to replace him after 3 seasons.

Everton have bid £55m with no add-ons or players involved according to SSN.

A reaction to Arsenal getting Pepe and realising they don't need to outbid Arsenal?

We are specialists in offering 30 year old centre backs 4 year contracts and not worrying about performance drop off when they are 32. :)

Plus he's been playing solidly since age 17, he could do a Rooney/Walcott and crash aged 29/30.

Unfortunately Everton are going to do very well next season and if they get the players in that they are rumoured to be getting then there's a good chance they'll piss all over us - not great considering how much a **** both Silva and Zaha are.

They are operating in a different market to us with their backing. They should always, ALWAYS be top 8, and with the demise of Arsenal i think they will be top 6 this season if they get the players linked.

The stupid thing with Arsenal is that it’s avoidable. They clearly have money with the bids that are going in - but quite why they won’t sign defenders, god knows.

  28. Burnsy

    Burnsy First Team

This can only be said with a degree of confidence IF they sign these players though. The bid for Zaha seems way off the asking price at the moment. The Moise Kean link has come from SSN and let’s not forget they have a betting market to make money from. It may have some truth to it but I’d be surprised still if they got him.

So far they’ve added André Gomes who they had last season and replaced Gueye with Delph who is arguably the weaker player.

But that’s not the point you made. You generically said it of all wingers. I don’t necessarily believe that to be true. What’s more, a player who has the talent Zaha has should be able to go beyond those ages.

No I didn't. I said "most" wingers. The elite will obviously last longer as they adapt and take better care of their bodies.

Cool, glad to listen to your opinions on why you think wingers get better with age but my reasoning is based on reading studies on such topics (one of which can be found here: https://statsbomb.com/2016/07/player-aging-attacking-players/

It’s really not important but seeing as we are here...your post in full.

‘Oops my bad. Wingers still start to decline at 28 though, and he’ll be 27 in a few months time.’

So you said wingers, not ‘most wingers’.

I don’t particularly have an opinion on it happening to some wingers as it clearly does happen. I just thought it could be pointed out that it wasn’t always the case. Offering say a 5 year deal to Zaha who will be just under 32 at the end of it doesn’t seem like such a risk?

Just read he wants 5 new players!

It seems madness clubs leave their transfer business so late - is it to try and get away with paying less for a player?

Thing is again Silva will be under pressure from the off to build on the solid finish Everton made....

As for Zaha/Palace - I presume he will play for them if not sold rather than go on strike etc.
