Watford will reportedly allow starlet Ashley Young join Tottenham if they can have Callum Davenport and Wayne Routledge in exchange.
Hornets boss Adrian Boothroyd has already stressed this week that £7million is ?not enough' to tempt him to sell Young during the transfer window as he ideally wants to keep the 21-year-old at Vicarage Road to help in their battle to avoid relegation from the Premiership.
However, while Aston Villa, West Ham and Liverpool have all been linked with a swoop, it now looks more likely that Spurs will win the race, but only if boss Martin Jol agrees to let two of his current squad move in the opposite direction as part of the deal.

A stumbling block for the deal is Jol would be loathe to let Davenport depart knowing he would be left with only three centre-halves in Michael Dawson, Anthony Gardner and the injured Ledley King. Therefore the Dutch tactician will have to strengthen that area before anything can happen.

Routledge is currently on loan at Fulham, however, Spurs can recall the winger this month if they are to use him as a makeweight in the Young transfer. Indeed it is thought that Boothroyd will try to sign the former Crystal Palace man even if he is not involved in a part-exchange.

do you reckon this will happen?

    i got it from eatsleepsport

    Cash only please

I would prefer a cash deal so that we could spend the money on who we want, rather than accept Spurs cast outs as a make wieght

So the Spurs offer of Routledge and Davenport, plus cash seems likely to be true then.

I'd rather we tried to sign McAnuff than Routledge.

    £6mil and Davenport would do.

Not your fault as it keeps on being linked in the papers but I read a week or so back NEITHER of them wanted to come here (did not say us as such but said they would rather not be in a relegation battle etc)...seems like the former would rather join Fulham which is fair enough if he wants to be on the bench most weeks with the odd game here and there collecting his wages.

Sorry, I meant "likely to be true" as in the bid was actually made, not just made up by the papers.

Does Davenport definitely not want to join us, not just Routledge? He was on loan in the Championship last season and is fourth choice CB at Spurs.

To be fair... coleman himself says nothing about him being part of our deal.. that bit was added by skysports.. but it insinuates that there are other interested parties in routledge and coleman doesnt want him to go

Had a drink with a spurs fan last week. Not the sharpest tool in the box. He bemoaned how difficult it was to get tickets for away games and suggested that it would be easier if they just mixed all the fans together. I asked how he thought this would work for, say, the spurs versus arsenal game - 5 seconds of silence later - "oh yeah, it wouldn't work would it"
