Off the back of the Covid thread, Xmas is likely to be very different this year.
Max 6 people or 4 households or something else.

What are your thoughts plans etc.

My family have already said they’ll flout the rules of its max 6 people. There are 11 of us which is our parents, then myself and my siblings and their kids.

As I made clear in the other thread I’m not fussed but I can imagine lots of people will be and that they’ll ignore the rules.

I think a lot of people will be in the same boat and logically I can't see plod running about enforcing it. I reckon they might extend lockdown for a coupel of weeks into december and then have an amnesty for the xmas/new year week.

I guess there is always the possibility that they allow restaurants to host groups larger than 6 in a certain socially distanced step up. Would provide a boost to hospitality, but then it would be unlikely to prevent people just going to one home afterwards anyway.

Some middle aged bloke was interviewed on the TV news the other day wailing ‘they can’t take Xmas away!’ And I thought, you must have had 50 or 60 of them. Buy some nice food and drink and chill the **** out.

It’s going to up to individuals how much they decide to flout the rules, but how worth it will it be if Nan and Gran are on a ventilator by New Year?

Exactly. My parents are high and very high risk and even they're talking about having relatives round and "entertaining" to be fair they've been pretty much shielding since March and bored ****less now.

Me I'd just like to have a round of golf and a pint or two afterwards.

I can't wait. It means I can have Christmas with my wife and daughter uninterrupted and without needing to see other people. Perfect.

They'll have some odd form of rules. We can only guess as to how many will follow them.
Have to strike the right balance. No rules and it will raise rates of exposure. Too strict and people wont follow
You want to send the message to be sensible that people can live with.

Whilst it will be hard the sensible thing will be to can it off save having another lockdown in new year.

That being said it's Bojo so I fully expect us to have a week out and about.

This Christmas is going to be really tough.
[Sob Story]My Mum is at Risk and in my sisters bubble, my wifes Mum is in a care home and tested positive, (waiting for more news), her brother works in a hospital so will probably not be able to come over as my wife is going to start chemo middle of December[/Sob Story].
If we can get through this horrific one and most of 2021 then next year we're having everyone we know over!

Way to one up everyone, I was going to have a moan about missing out on playing board games at the pub on Boxing Day.

Seriously though, all the best to you and your family. I hope you can have some kind of Christmas and it’s a reminder to everyone about why it’s important to respect the rules.

similar. Father in law diagnosed with inoperable cancer 2 weeks ago so probably his last. We'll have him over Xmas day but he hates Xmas as his wife died close to Xmas about 25 years ago. My mother's Parkinson's now means she's effectively immobile and depressed. We'll see her boxing day.
No different to every other weekend.
WFC had better have a good weekend.

Best wishes for it all diamond. Whilst it sounds like a lot on your plate, don't just write of this year. Try and make it a nice one. My dad died a few months ago, covid restrictions and the fear of passing covid onto him meant I didnt see him that much in the last 6 months, other than zoom calls. I dont want to say the words exactly but what if you forego this xmas and look forward to 2021, but 2021 is worse...

Surprising and disappointing that nobody has going to church or listening to Her Majesty the Queen's address to the nation in their plans for Xmas day. I'll be doing neither but that's not the point

Me and mine will be watching HMQ's address as always. The usual aim is to be completely battered by then so I can slur insults at the tv for the whole thing.

I'm getting away if the government will let me. Flight booked to Barbados, where you have to quarantine when you get there and take a test 3 days later, but then have freedom to do whatever you want.

First Christmas I've ever not spent with the family, but I'm not sure I'd have fun passing presents and chatting a few metres away from them anyway. I'll just Zoom call them from the beach with a rum punch in hand instead.
