    We were very rusty (to be charitable!) away to Sheffield Wednesday, but when Perica came on at half time, he did link up very well with JP, likewise they were both involved in the goal against Oxford (JP scuffed the shot but never mind!), that's a partnership I feel has a lot of potential, but we're never going to see it are we?

    I'm tired of changing coaches when we hit poor form. Yes he should be lining us up better and yes he got his tactics wrong recently. All fair criticism and I've been saying the same. But who will we get in that will be an upgrade? Who would want to join Watford when you're jettisoned at the first sign of a slump? Working with your hands tied behind your back when there seems to be owner influence in your team selections (Giraldi, Giarreta) is never a healthy or sustainable relationship and will be a massive turn off at that alone to anyone of note.

    Xisco is only a symptom of the greater issue at the club and Gino's ownership in recent years where he is inadvertandly helping create a culture where the player's are held on an unaccountable pedestal and instead will bow to their demands when they are midly disgruntled with the current incumbent in charge. Xisco is not the answer. But equally he is not the problem and binning him won't help us get promotion at this point.

  3. Ordinarily I'd agree with you, I also hate our turnover in coaches, but Xisco is so far out of his depth he's magnifying the problems.

    Wise words and you've got the job.
    I would go all out attack Saturday showcasing a little youth. 4-2-3-1. Sarr top. Behind Sema, Pedro, Zinckernagel. Hughes and Cleverley in DM Hopefully Kiko is fit to join the rest of an unchanged backline.
    Maybe then we can try and start to play some football. It couldn't possibly be any worse than what we've witnessed lately.

    Deeney not getting on the team bus is nothing new especially around the midlands. He would of had permission or maybe in Troy’s case told Xisco he would be driving himself.
    As for playing 442 and concentrating 352 or what ever other formation it was. Massina was considered unavailable through the week was he not? Maybe he passed late fitness tests and he chose to go with what he knew or involving Massina late as part of back 3.

    As for Troy wanting to pump it long. None of those players are able to play ticy taky out from the back and it showed also conditions of the pitch suited those tactics more.

    Yet Coventry, 19th in the league, were perfectly capable of playing some excellent football on the ground at times.

    Let's not use the pitch or a supposed lack of quality to excuse our pathetic, desperate, hit and hope football.

    Ability and confidence in our technical ability. Coventry seemed to do ok passing it out from the back on that pitch. When we’re at home opposition tend to sit deep allowing us to utilize the space in front.

    Which part of the game did we start hitting it long? I’d say towards the end also being our more dominant part of the game. We couldn’t click more than a couple of passes together going forward. The amount of players screwing up control or passes yesterday was abysmal.

    I suppose it is their home pitch so are probably more used to it though. Although I am not buying the excuse about the pitch.

    Kabasele used that excuse on Hive Live earlier on in the season as well when asked by Emma about why Watfords away form isn't the best. Norwich and Brentford don't seem to have any trouble though.

    I do wonder if Xisco would have been fired already over the weekend if we had a capable caretaker who could step in for a couple of games while we source his inevitable replacement. If Xisco is sacked this morning and it takes a few days or even a week to confirm his replacement, who runs training or picks the team during that time? Omar Riza?

    I think you'll find it's the Zoom conference for the strength and conditioning coaches in the Balkans this week so I wouldn't expect an announcement imminently.
    The good news is the Dungy on the Wold village idiots contest has just concluded and the club are interviewing all of the finalists including Sid and Doris Bonkers.
    Encouraging signs.

    I think it's Graham Stack's turn as caretaker, then it'll be Riza. Then after that we get into the academy coaching staff, then the physios and eventually the kit men/women.

    And Barnsley. And QPR and Huddersfield. And multiple other teams. They can all pass and move better than us, even if our residual individual quality has got us out of jail sometimes.

    We have a problem in that a block of Cleverley, Chalobah, Gray and Deeney affords little creativity or movement. When you play that as a 4-4-2, you have nothing going forward through the middle.

    What’s frightening is the fact that he will be forced to play 3-5-2 against Bristol City, a formation that yet again doesn’t suit our players.

    I’m amazed that he is still here. The only logical explanation is the fact that my little made up scenario is actually close to the truth. Either the replacement turned us down or we couldn’t get one in time for this week. That's the only reason he is still here.

    I would rather Xisco still be fired though and have Omar Riza take charge.

    I think its understandable if we can't get the deal for the right successor done in a short time. I think the real issue is that we have hollowed out our coaching team of capable caretakers, a Hayden Mullins or Dean Austin type to take the reins for a couple of games as we source a replacement. So we have to the successor fully lined up when we pull the plug.

    The problem is clear: English cloggers.

    When we went up last time we had a team full of foreign flair and glamour. Why the hell have we regressed to relying on british carthorses?

    The whole point of having foreign owners is they pack the team with overseas players and we lose our british identity.

    Bring it back pozzo! We dont want to be british club. They are shyte!

    It would save him and others a lot of time if he just checked it had Troy's seal of approval before teaching the formation rather after. Saves the time and hassle of having to abandon it if Troy isn't happy with the impact on his involvement.

    Obviously Troy and others haven’t fallen out with each yet to warrant a sacking .

    Whatever formation he tries it will involve Deeney upfront, so does it really matter? 352 just means three centre backs to take it in turns hoofing it to the greatest target man in the league. At least with 442 we give Masina and Ngakia a go at a good old hoof.

    Someone told me a few years ago that first rate people appoint first rate people, but second rate people appoint third rate people because they're afraid of being outperformed.

    It's stuck with me over the years, mostly because I've come to realise how true it is. First rate people aren't threatened by others, so they make sure they find the best.

    I'm not up to speed on EU work permits post Brexit. If we did get rid of Munoz would we even be in a position to bring in a random nobody from the continent, or would we have to employ someone already based here?

    I can confirm this. I would never, ever recruit the most competent job applicant. You'd have to be stark raving bonkers to do such a thing. Or first rate. And I am neither.

    This is the document the FA has put out for managers. It seems that to automatically qualify the manager must have been in work for 3 of the last five years, or 2 years plus consecutively, in quite a broad range of 'top leagues' - down to Band 5 (so includes Greece, Ukraine, Serbia, Denmark, the Slovenian league, the MLS, the Chilean league and the second divisions of the Big 5 leagues) (https://www.thefa.com/-/media/files...eria/gbe-mens-managers-criteria-jan-2021.ashx)

    There is also an exceptions panel which uses the following procedure/criteria:
    "23. The Exceptions Panel shall only recommend to The FA that a GBE be granted if it is satisfied
    that the Manager is of the highest calibre and is able to contribute significantly to the
    The Football Association - Governing Body Endorsement Requirements for Men’s Team Manager
    development of the game at the top level in England. In doing so, the Exceptions Panel will
    have regard to the following (and any other matters that the Exceptions Panel determine to
    be relevant in its absolute discretion):
    a) where the Manager was not previously a first team manager or head coach or an
    assistant first team manager or head coach, the position held by the Manager;
    b) the league or leagues in which the Manager has Managed during the Reference
    Period;
    c) the participation of the club(s) Managed by the Manager during the Reference
    Period in competitive continental or world competition during the Manager’s
    tenure;
    d) the Aggregated FIFA World Ranking of any international team or teams that the
    Manager has Managed during the Reference Period;
    e) the participation of the international team(s) Managed by the Manager/Assistant
    Manager in competitive continental and world competition during the Manager’s
    tenure; and
    f) the reasons why the automatic criteria (as set out at paragraph 16) have not been
    met."

    I reckon Ivic would have got through, either via the automatic criteria or via the exceptions panel. Pretty likely that Munoz would not unless a huge amount of deference and latitude is given to clubs. But I would think that almost any manager with the kind of experience we're looking for what be fine, one way or another.

    Edit: almost any manager with the kind of experience I hope we're now looking for what be fine, one way or another
