After what has happened with Ivic, why are we not getting someone who knows and understands the Championship? I am truly baffled. I'll watch us on Sky but they ain't getting my £10 again this season.
We have sunk to low depths if this is true - a manager with so little experience in such an important season for the club..... and if we do get promotion seems he couldn't take charge because he doesn't have the necessary qualifications
As with every manager before, I will give him a chance. But it does seem a "brave" choice to say the least. Described in the Athletic as being attack minded and is engaging but disciplined with the players. If that is true then he could be "the one". Anyone is better than Ivic....surely?!
That's why it's in quotes. It was used in that way in "Yes, minister" to describe any stupid decision!
Some of the reaction on here is laughable. We should all get behind the new coach who has done well wherever he's been. Trust in Gino. If it wasn't for him we wouldn't even have a club after he saved us from going bust nearly 9 years ago. And he built us a new stand which wobbles in the wind. Speaking of wobble, anyone who doesn't agree should give their head one.
Well it's a case of reap what you sow. Watford have degraded themselves so much as a club by this firing policy no one wants the job. This is what they are reduced to. A massive gamble. I give him 10 games before we're looking for the next guy. As the rules stand, if we do get promoted he wouldn't be qualified to coach the club in the Premier League. This is just insane.
Would have taken anyone with a decent track record in this league, Hughton, Warnock etc. Gino literally goes and does the most brain-dead thing.
Great spot if this actually happens, also shows they were planning to sack Ivic before this weekend and the falling out with Deeney.
when you say Xisco has “been successful wherever he’s been” - he’s only been at one club, for 11 games, in the Georgian league. Obviously we’ll all get behind him once installed, but if he is appointed how can that be anything other than baffling and an incredible risk? Managerial reputation matters. Players respond to it. Appointing someone who doesn’t command the respect of the players matters. I have always been supportive of Gino and the Pozzos, who have been superb for the club, but their line of credit for saving us from administration in 2012 can’t run forever, and they need to continue to run the club well whether than dine out on past success. I think 2012-2017 or so we were clearly run in a very enlightened, smart way - but can anyone say that we’re really run better than Norwich or Bournemouth or Palace or Brighton or Leeds anymore?
You can almost change his name to Disco Money. Oddly enough, Gino will not be laughing when the coffers show emotion in May.
Without being able to bring in Bilic or Howe it didn't leave us with any proven good alternatives. At least he's attacking. Let's give him a chance.
Brought in to be a nice guy to our bunch of work-shy prima donnas. Could work, the squad is on paper good enough to get top 6 without a Head Coach. If he lets us actually attack I think we'll be okay.
Reckon he’ll be good. You don’t have to be an amazing manager to get this side promoted. You just need to get us to play fairly well. If he plays attacking football, can transition us through the lines and gives us a decent organisational shape, we’ll win promotion.
