Leeds promoted Luton survive Liverpool Champions VAR implementation botched Euro Champs postponed Is there anything else that can possibly go wrong? Anything?
It could get worse. Leicester may get a Champions league place and Bournemouth could overtake us/Villa to send us down.
on the plus side, I'm hopeful the rancid-armpitted **** who sits in front of me might have died of COVID.
Leeds back where they belong sickening Still think Bassett dismantling Taylors team.... selling off the likes of Bardsley and Richardson and us going down rankles more
This season is so bad. Wishing we had Fessi, Vydra and Ighalo still on the books seeing as we actually need to score some goals on Sunday. Not nostalgia, but a reflection our attacking options with GD out are now so thin.
1971/72 was pretty **** We didn't score a goal at home for 7 consecutive matches from 4/12/71 until we scored against Carlisle on 25/03/72 - Orient L 0-1, Oxford L 0-1, Charlton L 0-3, Birmingham L 0-1, Middlesbrough L 0-1, Millwall L 0-1, Bristol C L 0-2, Carlisle L 1-2, QPR L 0-2 before finally getting a point in a 2-2 draw against Portsmouth.
The worst season ever was the one GT left, Bassett arrived, the team was wrecked, and then we went down
1974/75 was worse. We were relegated to the 4th division, while Sheff United, Burnley and QPR finished in the top half of the top division. Aston Villa andNorwich got promoted out of division 2. To balance it out Bournemouth got relegated alongside us, Luton dropped out of Division 1 into Division 2 and Crystal Palace missed out on promotion from Division 3. On the up side Fiona Fullerton had her 19 birthday
Yep. We looked good until WBA spanked us 3-0 at the Vic. Then all our hard work drained away. Almost a carbon copy of the 00\01 season. We looked certain for promotion with Fulham then Sheff Wed beat us. To be fair this is one of the most depressing seasons I have personally witnessed since I began supporting the lads. Seen some shockers at Vicarage Road, Yoveil, Muff, Huddersfield, even losing 1-0 to Crewe at home. But this season, on attitude of the players and management inconsistent tops all that.
Come to think of it, surely just ******* off that "Gurning Gunner" Piers Morgan is plenty of incentive for us to win on Sunday.
Yes and GT Pl season in 99/00 was pretty horrible.. This stay in the PL has been a massive success in comparison. Even this season, we are taking it to the last game with a chance of staying. On the previous 2 occasions we were dead and buried by Xmas.
Funnily enough relegation in 1975 was the moment I realised it wasn't just me who supported Watford and we could be a much bigger club than I had realised. Crowds had dipped below 4,000 at one point that year but nearly 10,000 turned up to try and help the team stay up v Walsall, which was remarkable at the time because we were really poor.
Liverpool 0 Watford 1 Watford 1 Chelsea 0 Yes, 99/00 was disappointing but it did have its high points. And at least that team put in the effort. The current season is definitely worse because expectations were so much higher and the players appear not to give a ****.
That season after had been the worst I can remember, our post-Christmas collapse was utterly miserable, but if/when we go down in this one then it would have pipped it.
And possibly/probably on the strength of the 'bent' point Villa got against Sheffield United in the first game back. How did I just know at time when it happened "That might end up biting us in the @rse" ?
For me, the worst season will be one with zero excitement and instantly forgettable. At least the prem relegation seasons have started with the excitement of promotion to a new league, new opponents etc and this season a bit of will they/won't they before we finally officially fall in the last game. One of those from the early/mid 90s, when promotion was never a possibility and relegation was never really a risk. Can't name a season as they all merge into one as an instantly forgettable morass of stodge.
We've definitely had a few dodgy decisions go against us...think the Newcastle equaliser back in August came from a handball in the build-up... But it's the last minute losses at Villa and at home to a Everton when 2-0 up wrangle me most!
