Worst feeling in football was swiftly replaced by one of the best.

I really feared we were going to cease as a football club under Bassini. We had the hope of a takeover by the exciting Pozzo project then he said they had no proof of funds and my heart sank... Only for the board to overrule him!

From a football perspective... The playoff against Hull because I was so annoyed with the way we were playing that, for the first and only time, I chose not go to a Watford match. I was right as we got stuffed 6-1 on aggregate.

That was far more embarrassing than City at the weekend! Can't think of a play-off team in any division who looked less likely to get promoted than us in 2008 to be honest, must be a record

There were a few similarities - bad refereeing decision (Shittu disallowed goal), then getting cut to pieces as we pushed fwd trying to get back in the game (after going 1-0 up at Hull, ?).
Think we played Lee in goal (was he reserve keeper....maybe not?). Didn't he do one of his "chasing the ball way out of goal and not getting there" GK errors ??

The end to that season was amazing. About ten draws in a row then 5 defeats or whatever it was. Laughable stuff.

Remember Jeff Stelling charitably mentioning the end of our 'long unbeaten run' against Hull--7 draws in a row certainly didn't feel like a long unbeaten run! Ended up being 1 win in our last 16 games, which felt much more like it. Stats eh

Spurs proved this season that it isn't about being unbeaten, it's about winning games. Draws are a waste of everyone's time.

Yes, and it was only thanks to Tommy Smith’s second against Wolves in the home fixture that we scraped in on goal difference with 70 points - but really, none of the chasing pack deserved to be in the play-offs, Hull should have got a bye to the final.

2008 was a dreadful year points and performance-wise, low in goals and creativity, key players shipped out, probably two of the worst ever Watford performances in the home defeats to Barnsley and already relegated Scunthorpe, the fact that Hendo ended up our top scorer despite spending more time fouling people than trying to score in the second half of the season says it all, Aidy trying to change our style the following season but it didn’t work and we ended up in a relegation battle and he was gone.

Probably the worst year in the modern era (2003 and 2011 are comparable points-wise, but at least 2003 had the cup run to compensate, and 2011 had some exciting high-scoring games and a surprise flirt with the play-offs).

We love getting one over on Wolves before getting hit for 6 don't we!
Seem to recall we actually fell out of the play-off places at one point on the final day before equalising against Blackpool? Had no love for 2013-14 after the previous year really got my hopes up, but at least that proved to be an anomaly

Watford: Lee, Doyley, Shittu, Bromby, Sadler, Smith, Eustace, McAnuff, Williamson (Mariappa 90), Henderson, Ellington.
Subs Not Used: Poom, Priskin, O'Toole, Ainsworth.

With a squad like that, and the form we had been in, we would have torn up the prem.

To be fair it turned out they did have no proof of funds
