Also have to consider than in modern football and in the big clubs like Barcelona, they will have the best physios, fitness advisors, expert nutritionists, coaching, equipment and analysis techniques that older players just didn't have. They had their ability.

Crissy Ronaldo does not belong in a 'best player' discussion, not even among Portuguese.

I think people are letting their innate dislike for Ronaldo the **** confuse what should be respect for Ronaldo the footballer. He's an excellent player with a ridlculous roll of statistics. Whatever his personality flaws, he's still one of the best, if not the best player in the world right now.

As for Messi, he can't even get into the Spanish team.

Ronaldo is good but on too many big occasions he goes missing. Wouldn't say he is as good as the Zidane's, messi's etc etc.

    Expand on that "etc."

Zidane's is retired and Messi's is special. Who else is out there who is comparable to Ronaldo? Nobody, that's who.

I was refering to previous greats, currently Ronaldo is probably the second/third best player in the game admittedly. But I meant i'd like to see Ronaldo have good games in the big matches more constantly. Like against Bayern munich he had a good 10-15 minutes at the start then disappeared and missed a penalty, theres many examples thats just a recent one.

He scored in the 2008 CL final for the winning side.

Messi is easily the best player in the world right now, Ronaldo goes missing in the big games.

I agree that Messi is the best. I'm just playing Devil's advocate somewhat as people seem to be taking the point that Messi is better than Ronaldo to the point where they're suggesting that Ronaldo is crap, when he's bloody brilliant.

Ronaldo big games is a myth.

FA Cup Final 2003 in his first season of English football.

    Euro 2004 - Semis

    League Cup Final 2005

Chelsea - Champions League Final 2008

    Barcelona - Copa Final

Many more in semi's and vital league games.

112 goals in 105 or something league games says it all.

Sometimes seems to me like Messi is only good when Barca are already winning whereas Ronaldo is more likely to change a game instantly (in spite of the fact hes been ****e for Portugal this tournament). In any case Zidane was better than both of them.

It is imposible to judge players of different era's but I have seen Pele through to Messi and Pele was by far a better allround player, it also must be said that Pele did not receive the protection from the referee's that the likes of Messi get, they would have been targeted and kicked out of the game. In the World Cup of 1966 is a prime example when Pele was deliberately taken out by the Czech's and finished his and Brazils tournament

Since when has he gone missing ? In all the games I have watched him play with Argentina at the WC2010. Copa 2011 and recently he has created chances and scored goals.

Now with a change of coach he is starting to reproduce his club form for Argentina. Bear in mind the previous coaches since Pekerman resigned Basile was out of touch, Maradona and Batista would struggle coaching a youth club.

His statistics for Argentina already outweigh those of Ronaldo for Portugual. It was hilarious to hear the Danish fans mock him with chants of Messi and Maradona. They should have also chanted Michael Laudrup.

Iniesta is a better player than him anyway. Players like Pastore match him for talent or indeed outrank him.

Messi doesn't get kicked ? He gets pulled down, barged over and kicked all the time ie Ufalujsi for Atletico trying to deliberately hack him down.

The fact is he is so quick and is able to get past defenders trying to hack him down.

Maradona is the best player of all. Messi still doesn't match him for sheer flair and all round skill.

As for Pele he certainly dished it out. He played with other superb players who rarely get a mention like Didi and he can hardly have claimed to won the 62 World Cup when he was injured during the second game.

His constant pronouncements are tiresome and even other Brazilian players like Romario have become fed up of his nonsense.

Pele is a better all round player than Messi who himself is ranked behind Maradona. di Stefano, Sivori, Pedernera , Moreno in the Argentine greats but his constant Messi need's to score x number of goals is nonsense. Considering he includes goals from matches against the Army and Escape to Victory.

Or he'll come around and knock our lights out....... Without doubt the finest footballer produced by our humble town.

COPA is a mickey mouse tournament in comparison to the Euros (the hardest tournament to win until 2016) which he failed to score in 2011 and he hardly set the world alight in the World Cup, a few assists against non-league North Korea and no goals in 2010. Ronaldo consistently scores when it matters at international level and in a team with far less ability than Argentina, similar to his situation at Real where he is surrounded by lesser players than Messi.

Their scoring record at international is the same at a goal every 2.7 games, despite the tougher team that Portugal play. No games against mighty Peru, Costa Rica or Ecuador here!

As I say, great player but still to do it at International level where is matters

    Err he has done it.

And to dismiss the Copa a tournament with a far greater and richer history than the European championships is derisible.

Okay Bolivia are no great shakes but Peru and Costa Rica aren't as bad as you tryand make out. Indeed who gave Spain their toughest battles in the WC ? Chile and tiny little Paraguay. Not that Europe of course is filled by powder puff teams like the mighty Iceland and Cyprus and indeed Norway.

Your Eurocentric tosh is just that. Most of the notable innovations in football were created in South America primarily by Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay. Total football for a start was created in Argentina by River Plate.

And it was South Korea who've beaten their fair share of European opposition. You are talking utter rubbish. But for the Nigerian keeper having an exceptional game and the woodwork on three occasions he'd have got onto the scoring sheet. Not to mention he at a far younger age than Mr.Change your hair at halftime scored and assisted in WC2006.

Messi's scoring and assists record is superior to him at international level and that despite having two incredibly incompetent managers who's club experience was next to zero.

I think Ozil and company would also be offended by your comments and yet Mr.Selfish tries to pinch goals from them too or launch wild strikes when his team mates are in better positions.

If you actually bothered to look at the statistics Messi scores more without Xavi and Iniesta around but funnily enough when he isn't around as when Spain plays Barcelona score fewer goals and create less.

I don't know if you are an ill informed WUM or just ill informed. When his physical attributes start to fade we'll see how good this Ronaldo is.

People wouldn't have said that if he got the winning penalty last night, at least Ronaldo din't miss unlike someone else against Chelsea...

He was probably thinking I'll take the glorious one to win. A complete nob. Or that his team mates might spare him from taking one. If a penalty had been awarded in normal time he'd be harder to prise from the ball than a limpet.

    http://www.whoateallthepies.tv/gifs...-injustica-over-euro-2012-penalty-defeat.html

What a child. Messi took the first penalty against Uruguay in the Copa without hesitation and scored.
