That's cool, I've got schizoaffective disorder, part schizophrenia part bipolar. If I take my Meds I can lead a normal life, good article

Best estimates are that in the UK 1 in 6 people have suffered from a mental health illness in the last week.
So if we imagine the vic holding all our fans that’ll be the lower part of the GT stand. Having modded here for years there are many people who post who suffer from mental health problems or who have family members who this has affected.

Awareness is great as it reduces stigma but it’s not enough. What mental health in the UK needs is money to front line services. The government make promises about this but it rarely gets delivered, if it does it is swallowed up by “initiatives” and middle management

Good idea Cthulhu, over the years with my illness, I've not mentioned that I have schizophrenia due to most people thinking I'm dangerous or whatever, due to the Stigma. I now use the safer sounding 'bipolar type 2'.

Like the dude in this article, it doesn't mention what his condition is, just that he had Psychotic experiences, which is more than likely schizophrenically related. I've noticed too, in the local papers, if someone commits suicide due to mental health problems, they never mention the condition but simply symptoms.

There are so many different types of mental illnesses, for example, my wife suffers from anxiety whilst in a large gathering in public etc, and needs to take her Meds daily or the condition becomes apparent.

I see mental illness as an unlucky thing to have. Nobody chooses to have it, your brain is simply broken.

In that respect mental illness isnt unlike any other medical condition where the body is in someway not working as it should. You need the right treatment to stay well. If you are unlucky enough to have diabetes, you get it diagnosed, you see healthcare people and get the right treatment in terms of mediciation and other things.
Schizophrenia and psychosis are terms largely misunderstood by the public. Instead of their true meaning of a very unpleasant and distressing experience of detachment from reality with perhaps fixed delusional ideas and hallucinations, for many of the general public, who are not informed they mean "dangerous."
The truth is someone with psychosis is many many times more likely to be at risk of violence to themselves than to ever be a risk to others.

    Nice intelligent words.

When I was 19 and schizo like things happened, it scared the crap out of me. I did a few foolish, not dangerous things. Got put in a health unit and was then sectioned for my own safety.

This was 1993 so help and advice and information at the time was minimal.

I felt suicidal, If I had the balls to jump of a bridge I'd be long dead.

    ECT helped me a lot.
