Holland who have a rather inexperienced and poorish side have lost Rafael van der Vaart to injury picked up in training. It might not be all that bad considering he has had a terrible season with Hamburg.

South Korea were poor last night by all accounts and Hong Jeong-ho suffered an ankle injury which will be a cause for concern for Myung Hong-Bo. Mexicans number one choice Corona also suffered a facial injury after a collision with man mountain Francisco Rodriguez last night but he will be fine for the finals.

At Ezeiza in BA, di Maria sat out training as he is still being rested by Sabella with Maxi Rodriguez taking his place. There was a slight issue with Lavezzi as well but nothing major. Team spirit is excellent.

Australia are the first team to arrive in Brazil at their base at Vitoria and received a warm welcome.

However there is continuing discontent in all of Brazil with regards to the costs of the tournament as evidenced in a variety of graffiti below. Pele does not escape the satire rightly so after his comments regarding the deaths of construction workers and his dismissal of the people demonstrating against the tournament:

Is it bad that I'm geniunely hoping the final kick off time gets delayed by an hour or two because of protesters, so I can watch it when I land?

My birthday is on 27 June. The one day where there is no football. Much as I love the football it gives me a chance to frolic with my brother (it's his birthday, too) without any impending televisual commitments.

    Montes from Mexico
    Marquez from Mexico
    Possibly the Ghanaian center back....
Scared for tomorrow's USA friendly vs Turkey now!

I note that prices of packages to the World Cup have come down somewhat over the past few months due to a drop in the interest in the competition. You can get a ticket to the Bosnia-Herzegovina v Iran game for £5 !!!

However, packages that include England games are still costing a lot of money and probably only fans earning mahusive salaries of £36k and above could afford to go. Tickets to all three group games cost over £1,000, flights for £3,000 and accommodation is scarce and costing £200 per night.

At least we know with everyone at the world cup earning over 36k that the stadiums average IQ will be 300.

    Here's my ITK opinion:

Anyone who thinks Wayne Rooney should be dropped should be arrested and deported. This season was his third best in his career for league goals despite playing in a subpar team.

How do these ridiculous opinions (dropping Rooney) come about and why do so many sheep jump on them.

    Ludicrous.

Can we just support England for once and Rooney who is probably our best player.

    That is all.

I think part of the problem is it is quite a long build up to Thursday's opening match, and sadly the newspapers have to have something to print and the likes of Talk Sport and Sky Sports have to have something to broadcast to fill all their build-up coverage. So there will inevitable be 'an issue of the day', debated endlessly, even if it has little relevance to what actually happens come Saturday week.

I'm all for the media (and the public) giving players a hard time if we play badly in the tournament and come home before the knockout stages, but I honestly can't see why there is any knocking of any our players before a serious ball has been kicked in anger.

On the Rooney front, he's obviously struggling to find his best position in the side now that Sturridge is the Number 9, and can tend to drop too deep at times. He's also had a poor World Cup finals record. But he's scored 39 senior goals (including one in the most recent game), has bags of experience, and let me ask his critics this, what do people think Italy's reaction would be to seeing him not in the starting eleven next week?

I expect Deschamps is quite pleased for all sorts of reasons. Cabella is in better form as well than him. So not a real loss. Reus out for Germany is another injury blow for them. All teams are picking up injuries which is not great for the tournament. van Persie, Ronaldo, Palacio are some of the headline names struggling at present but the so called smaller sides are also losing players.

The consequences of a long season. They should as has been mooted in the past move the WC to before the season starts in the majority of countries. It also highlights the need for a more organized global season.

Ghana lost their starting striker to injury in the 5', then the sub came on and got a hat trick. Their fans started chanting "We want the US!" at that point. To have any chance of advancing, the USA absolutely must beat Ghana in the the opening day of the Group of Death play, but they appear to be up for it... Soon, all will be revealed...

Mark Lawrenson thinks none of the Italy players would get into our team - that surely is the kiss of death.

One things for sure, Mark Lawrenson would get into no other channel's commentary team, irrespective of country.

Absolute bore of a commentator. Townsend might talk absolute ****, but at least he sounds interested.

I'm going to be watching all the England games, all the Algeria games so that I can hopefully see Belko play. Also the USA games because I have a connection with them. And the Italians because Watford are Italian. Screw it, I'll just watch all of them.

Mirror back page is so typically English. What are they thinking? 'Lets **** up any chance we have' I hate the English football press.

For anyone that hasn't seen it, it's a zoomed in picture of Neville's tactic sheet revealing the tactics for the Italy game.

Sorry Fitz, but I got Ghana in our office sweepstake. So I'll just have to cheer for them now! I don't expect much though, as you say, it's the 'group of death'!

Houston is going to be an absolute war zone if Mexico don't win this game due to an obvious injustice.

"Obvious injustice" is understatement of the decade.

EDIT: looks like Mexico finally got the goal they completely deserve.
