I think if they do it like rugby, where they show it on the big screen rather than run over to the touchline monitor it might help.

I don't like the way they do it in the cricket, when I first saw it and the TMO could be heard over the PA, I thought it was God - I immediately renounced my atheism.

That is a myth. There has been every bit as much exaggerated falling and arguing with refs.

The only difference is the laughably poor standard of the play. It's hilarious that the BBC thinks this is worthy of being broadcast across its network.

I'm watching out of morbid curiosity. With the refereeing debacles and VAR shambles, it's a freak show.

    The cricket process is excellent.

Everyone now knows the steps involved & the third ump concisely articulates his reasoning.

The process generally adds to the spectacle as the tension builds.

Showing the crowd in the stadium the pictures is essential.

VAR doesn’t really work in rugby. It takes far too long in the context of the match & often the key incident is a pedantic stud in touch 40 yards from the try line.

Football is much closer to rugby & needs to be really careful how VAR is applied.

The biggest surprise is that the hosts and favourites might meet in the 1/4 finals - clearly they didn't rig the draw well enough like they have done for the Men's in the past!

I actually thought no.7 (the captain) did a good job persuading the rest of the team to get on with the game at 2-0. No.3 was certainly one of the shop stewards pushing for a strike. I also thought the Cameroon frustration stemmed from the first goal when a dubious free kick was awarded in the area. The defender mis-controlled the ball, then made it look more like a back pass by shielding the ball from the attacker as it went to the keeper. The referee was weak throughout and definitely bottled the penalty and the red card, which would both be given in the Premier League, so as to avoid a potential riot or default by the Cameroon players.

Zzzzzz how much longer does this go on for ? Another week max surely?
I’m desperate for some footy to watch and would happily watch some decent televised non league footy but not this rubbish. Can’t bear the bbc desperately trying to whip up a frenzy of excitement for the sporting coup they pulled off in buying this cheap sporting extravaganza.
Hopefully England go out ASAP to reduce the exposure we are being subjected to.

Watch the Euro U21s then - it's pretty good.

Also the AFCON, but only really worth it once it's in the later stages.

What sealed it for me with their no.7 was when she had a right go at Houghton for diving when she was felled by that ankle breaker tackle in added time.

However was an entertaining match. We do need to sort out our calamitous defence that was saved yet again by Bardsley's brilliance. On their side I though Estelle Johnson in defence was very good. Sign her up.

Looked like a perfectly decent goal for France, ruled out by VAR.

I enjoy, especially, when the wingers burst forwards into areas that would be considered extremely dangerous in the men's game, getting behind the fullback with players in the box, then they just boot the ball, straight out of play, directly ahead of them, rather than crossing it. It's hilarious.

    Stern words post match:

'The president of the women’s football committee at the Confederation of African Football, Isha Johansen, who is president of the Sierra Leone FA, said: “Whilst remaining proud of our African teams that participated in the Fifa Women’s World Cup, yesterday’s match between England and Cameroon reflected badly, not only on African women’s football, but African football on the whole.

“It is an issue which will be addressed and dealt with, at the appropriate levels of governance.” '

So following hideous behaviour, which resembled that of Rattin & his compadres on an off day... the chaps better pull up their socks!

Yet the Cameroon manager claimed we were lucky and played unfairly !

Appalling penalty decision for Holland v Japan in the 87th minute. Ball hit hard from just a few metres away, hit the defender's arm as she tried to block it. She was moving her arm away! NEVER in a million years a penalty ans the defender got booked as well. The ref didn't even want to consult VAR. Outrageous FIFA meddling with the rules.

  16. hornetgags

Not strictly true. The ref was talking to VAR and they confirmed it hit the arm.

However, I hate this rule...it was never an intentional handball. Extremely harsh.

We all really have to understand this before next season: the referee does not ‘consult VAR’. VAR advises the ref if a decision should be reconsidered.
I agree in this example a penalty should never have been given, but I’m afraid this is what VAR is bringing us.

Aim of the game next season will be just to kick the ball at a defenders arm in the box and voila!

Yeah. Pretty sure it's going to be carnage until 20/21, when I expect the rule makers will introduce more indirect free kick offences to replace penalties in the box.

England through to the semi finals ..

Probably lose to France or USA though - stronger than what we have faced so far .

    Agreed. First one I’ve watched.

Aggressive going forward although our CBs weren’t the most effective.

    Hopefully, Gino wasn’t watching.

Curiously, ‘fascist footballer’ brought up Wayne Hennessy & Paulo di Canio.

No Hitlers or Mussolinis but several Francos.

Btw, I’ll be in Dallas next month. Any tips?

I’ve only been once, about a year ago. Mainly involved drunken scootering around downtown using the Lime app. The JFK stuff was decent. The people were a bit weird.

So unlike our feeble cricketers who have crumbled when the heat is on,the ladies raised their game when required.
    By far their best performance.
If I were Parish I would deposit the money for AWB asap as MU may decide on Lucy Bronze instead. That girl should be renamed 'Gold' an excellent player.
Ellen White is a likeable Kane, minus the moaning, diving and chasing the ref half the length of the pitch to get players sent off.
Houghton is impressive at the back and Gill Scott is pony tailed Doucoure.
Still not convinced with Millie Bright, although she had a better game.
    Well done to Neville.
Let's hope France or USA go to extra time and penalties.

Wasn't a great one by the France player early on either.

Maybe like the men the bigger the game the more they try to "cheat"?

Thought I’d give it another 15 mins with the best 2 teams on show. USA give it away in own half. France player boots it straight out under no pressure. USA regain possession. USA player boots it out under no pressure. Woeful. Mental note not to give it the time of day again.
