It doesn't matter. It's not proper football.

Maybe not but if the rules are implemented the same there will be lot of gnashing of teeth and delays to the game.

I did notice Eddie Howe was complaining about VAR...wonder why?

This is not meant as a slight on women’s football, but why does the BBC, on its website, deem women’s World Cup matches between foreign countries to be more important than the U21 Euros game involving England?

    The level of the team has improved over the years and Lucy Bronze is a good player however I would play the following;
Joyce Grenfell and Peggy Mount in central defence.
Yootha Joyce as a box to box midfielder,Judi Dench in a holding role.
Moira Stewart as right back,Angela Rippon left back.
Margaret Rutherford as a bustling.Keith Mercer type forward role.
    Esther Rantzen in goal,naturally.
Of course places for Diana Rigg,Twiggy and Deidre from Coronation Steet.

    Boyish or girly.

Choudhury would play the Crystal Tips role.

Don't forget Thora Hird and June Whitfield,Olive from 'On The Buses',Mrs Warboys and Adele as reserve keeper.
Diana Ross, pre penalty, fits the Choudhury brief.

    Poor Scotland!

Have to say they were hard done by at the end but also have to look at themselves for blowing a 3 goal lead .

Sad to see them go out, especially as they were 3-0 up :(

However, great to see England go through and carry the hopes of the UK, lets all get behind them and maybe they can bring the World Cup home.

Apparently it's sexist to enforce the new rule on goalkeepers using VAR for the first time at the Women's World Cup:

    https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...alising-goalkeepers-unfairly-womens-world-cup

VAR being introduced for the first time before the actual World Cup last year was hunky dory she says. No sexism there. Nothing big ever changes for the men. Except, it does. I seem to remember a World Cup where every tackle vaguely from behind was suddenly a red card because of a June rule change. I'm certain there have been others.

Aluko totally ignores the fact the rule has changed to make it easier for goalkeepers - they no longer have to stay on their line, just have to have one foot on it. Instead of accepting some goalkeepers will carry on trying their luck and others are simply ill-prepared, Aluko bizarrely suggests it makes it impossible to save a penalty now.

I'm actually disappointed this isn't going to be enforced in the PL next season. I don't think arguments about an inch here or there help anyone, whether it's offside or goalkeeper coming off their line. But there's been some blatant encroachment from goalkeepers for years that has gone completely unpunished.

Aluko has had previous of "going off on one". The former, future Mrs. Meister was well and truly dodged.

Good to see the BBC were dealt a favourable tie in having Germany as the 'home' team and changing Nigeria's abbreviation.

    Pitfall and controversy avoided.

More misinformed comments on VAR by so-called experts today, this time in the women’s game:
"The referees are using it as a comfort blanket," former England defender Laura Bassett said on BBC Two.

"We were at the other end of the pitch and it was clear to us it was reckless and obviously a penalty. It is not good enough. That is not what VAR is there for. It is not the game we all love."

Her views were echoed by Stoney, who added VAR "hasn't worked in this tournament".

"The referee has to see this. If you are in a good position, you can see that is a penalty. You should not need to go to VAR for that to be given and waste even more time. I'm questioning the ability of the officials in this tournament," Stoney said.

Once again: the referee does not ‘go to VAR’. The VAR independently reviews incidents and only informs the ref if there might have been an error in the decision. The referee can then reverse the decision if he/she agrees. Why can’t these people understand this? What is certainly true, however, is that the worse a referee is the more often VAR will get involved and the more interminable waits the fans will have to suffer.

I really don't have a problem with VAR. I thought it worked really well at last year's world cup making for one of best tournaments in recent years and also when Man City thought they'd scored in the last minute against Spurs in the Champions League, the deafening silence around the Etihad was worth the use of VAR alone.

I do have a problem with the goalkeeper on the line rule. That should be down to the referee and assistants and I'm glad the Premier League has stated that will be the case next season.

    England 3-0 up.

Probably lucky to stil have a game as Cameroon threatened to walk off in protest at VAR.

This was the first bit of this world cup ive watched, and i have to say its fantastic. Ill be watching more of the womens tournament for sure.

I'll be watching it for all the wrong reasons but nevertheless looks like good fun.

Their no. 7 was a nasty peice of work.

Absolute comedy though. Ref chickened out of a red and a penalty, think Cameroon would have gone berserk if they'd been awarded.

VAR is too slow but works. Think they need to show it on the screens so that the crowd can understand.
