Wise choice. I think when she said ‘we’ll meet again “, she was basically offering you outside.

I'm always intrigued to hear the excuses these people make - how they twist it so that the rules don't apply to them. In this case I imagine its something like "we only see people we know haven't got it" or "we only go to each others houses, not anyone elses".

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Nobody can define their own facts.

You may think the lockdown is OTT. You may think it's ok to have a BBQ with your mates. You may think it's ok to go to the beach/park and have a party

But the fact is that people far more informed than you believe that doing so will mean the virus will spread more quickly. And if that happens the available resources will be inadequate and people will die that would otherwise live.

And the fact is that the government has taken that expert advice not your uninformed opinion. So, for the sake of others, just do what you have been told to do and leave your ignorant opinion in your head.

I do wonder if this ridiculous dismissal of expert advice comes from the "we've had enough of experts" opinion that was voiced by current government ministers not so very long ago.

Equally though, we need to be on guard against the government trying to shift the blame for their strategy flopping - if that’s indeed what happens - onto us. If it fails it won’t be because a small percentage of people didn’t comply with the rules.

Agreed. But, if the government have a strategy based on expert opinion, then it is not helpful for individuals to come up with their own "strategy" based on their own random uninformed thoughts.

I've always said I'm no expert on this and I don't know what the best response is. I am therefore (logically) relying on those that do know what they are talking about to inform me.

If people don't do the same then it undermines the whole strategy and, if the experts are correct, people will die because of that.

I would agree that everyone should follow advice as this is the chosen strategy (as I certainly do) Holding a different opinion isn’t necessarily ignorant though: medical advice will be how to minimise spread of virus. No other competing factors involved - impact of damage to economy etc. A medical professional will only opine on optimal viral strategy and not factor in any other aspects. Obviously Government should do that but it isn’t as simple as Johnson saying we follow the medical advice without question. He must make a wider assessment and be responsible for the outcome.

Definitely! I'd like to think the government have taken a holistic approach based on the full impact to life, including the economic impact, but I suspect I'm being optimistic.

Bottom line for me is that the elected government have taken a position based on expert advice. We should therefore follow it. If it proves to be wrong then we will find out in due course. By undermining it based on nothing more than what we think is a "better approach" leads to chaos and certain failure.

Come on people, we need to take our city back let’s open the parks cops can’t lock up the whole city, more people die from the flu alone.
The virus will die in heat.
Also these closures are a violation of the constitution. The constitution gives us the freedom of movement.

Just a few pearls of wisdom from a small minoroty of New Yorkers about the lockdown despite the death rate soaring in the city. When people are out and about respect others spaces. Still too many people in groups, hanging around for prolonged periods, invading others 'exclusion' area without a thought which is particularly concerning if you are vulnerable. If you are shopping don't browse. Get what you need and get out.

No daytime jogging in Paris between 10am and 7pm as numbers rise some running in groups.

No one wants to be locked down. But in theory if no-one goes out other than absolutely essential people who are covered up then theoretically we could return to normal in 3 weeks but too many people flouting it is allowing new infections to continue. The signs are that this is slowing. I agree with you about browsing in shops but at the moment there is no need to go to a park, also I reckon regarding shoppers, there are still people going nearly every day and still panic buying whenever they can. It is not helping. Once a week should be enough.

Quarantining in previous epidemics proves it works.

Except the concept of quarantine applies to the infected, not the healthy.

If 80% of those who have it don't display symptoms (or have mild symptoms) how would they know they are healthy or infected?

I don’t think any of your post was wrong, it just focuses too much on outcomes solely related to reducing Covid-19 deaths.

For example, to say there’s no need to go to a park ignores those without gardens, particularly in flats. It’s no surprise the busiest park that drew the most attention last weekend was in one of London’s more socially deprived areas. Lambeth Council shut it but fortunately the government saw sense and told them to reopen.

Ill be staying in this weekend again. Garden is all sorted and I'll pick up any alcohol on my daily walk from the fantastic Hop Pole in Aylesbury.

I have noticed there have been a lot more cars on the road this week when I am on the way to work. The first week was like 28 Days Later now it's almost like the summer holidays.

When you begin to see Rick Grimes and Neegan fighting it out on Occupation Road, followed by a hoard of Zombies (Luton fans) - I would suggest beginning to worry.

    YES! THIS.

These same people, who are 3 abreast in the footpath are the same people I will see later on social media, lambasting a runner for not turning backwards, or climbing a tree to maintain 2m distance, when they basically boxed the runner in! And they're nearly all oldiewonks.

I’ve been combining running and exercising the dog, always on quiet country backroads near our house where you can basically do an hour long loop without seeing anyone other than the odd car or cyclist.

There’s also a lovely country park nearby so we thought we’d walk the dog down at 7am on Sunday for a change, let her off for a run and then walk her on the paths and through some woods after. Early in the morning to avoid people like. By half 7 the paths were awash with oldies, stopping to point at birds, cough loudly and attempting to restrain their evil, ratty dogs. Plenty of dogs off the lead on paths running up to people, forcing their owners to break the social distancing when retrieving it. Spent most of it wading through waist high grass away from paths. Won’t bother again.

I do think parks and open spaces should remain open, I just hadn’t counted on people being so oblivious to others. Up until now the only time I’ve felt the urge to tell someone to back the **** off was this nutter in Morrison’s who couldn’t figure out why we were queuing to get in. Got about 6 inches behind before loudly moaning about it taking ages. She really didn’t seem to be with it so I cut her some slack and reminded her about the lines on the floor. Saw her at the checkout later with one pint of blue* milk.

    ******** savage.

To be fair, if Negan was Prime Minister, we'd have no problem with social distancing. He'd have shut that sh*t down.

    No exceptions.

The news today would have been barely comprehensible in early March, Spurs criticised after two players seen running together in a park..eh? Police break up a game of cricket in a park..eh?..

Thing is, it's like any of these people vs people discussions. Cyclists, motorists, pedestrians, dog walkers, runners etc. there are bell ends in all of these groups who make no concession to other people and there are those who bend over backwards to be accommodating.

One thing that is a common truth, however, is that boomers are scum.
