I think it is safe to say that we will probably be looking for a new team captain as Troy is probably going to be at best a bench warmer from now on, whether we are promoted or not.

Of course it is possible that our future captain may not yet be at the the club, but working on our existing squad who do you think should get the Captains armband or should TD remain?

I think that we have a few potential candidates who show leadership qualities, but my left field choice would be Serrialta. If you watch him playing he is forever directing play at the back, and I think he commands respect especially from his fellow defenders.

PS Please can someone in Admin create a poll as I'm not sure how to do that, but include Troy Deeney and A N OTHER choice, not just the obvious subjects.

  2. If fit Clevs, otherwise Chalobah or Hughes. I include Chalobah because I think he really has a strong emotional attachment to this club.

Sierralta leads by example on the pitch, but...does he even speak English? I've only ever heard him speak Spanish

    I'd say Hughes.

For vice Captain I'd say between Chalobah & Sierralta. I think Troost Ekong could also be another candidate, however I think his ability at Premier league level would mean he wouldn't be a starter.

Hughes for me. We seem to play so much better with him in the central role and he gets us moving from defense to attack. He's been here a while and knows the club, being a big fave amongst most fans.
For his debut yesterday, Chabolah was excellent in the role, capped off a brilliant display with a GotS contender. Props to him.

It's a slang term for "deserves congratulations" or "did well".

I think one of the real positives from the recent good run is that, compared to earlier in the season when we appeared to lack strong personalities or leadership, we suddenly have a number of players who look like captaincy material. There is an element of chicken and egg, as good form breeds confidence and encourages players to step up. It is difficult not to conclude that Deeney's absence has also been a key factor. His overbearing personality, standing at the club and tendency to strop at his teammates doesn't exactly encourage others to put their heads above the parapet. For what it's worth I'd choose Hughes, as among the obvious options he is my first name on the team sheet (and it might just possibly convince him to stay beyond this year), but I like the idea of a leadership group comprising the players mentioned here. As mentioned by others, Chalobah really stepped up yesterday.

I would like to see Quina’s loan cut short and then have him installed as captain as a sort of apology.

I would then like to see a slightly complicated system where Hughes is vice captain and Chalobah is deputy captain, with no clear indication who outranks whom.

Finally I would put Sierralta as ‘arch captain’ which is higher than captain.

Hughes - but I suspect he will be off in the summer.

If we don't go up then undoubtedly, but if we do I don't see who is going to come and take him that's going to be anything more than a sideways step.

Once Troy’s reign is over we should retire the captains armband in his honour.

If we go up, we should be looking to offer a new contract.

Based on yesterday’s game, Chalobah. Hughes seems a natural captain but I’m not sure really needs it. Getting the captains armband seemed to lift Chalobah to another level and he also seemed to relish the added responsibility. I think it’s doing him more good than it does for Hughes and Cleverly.

The fact we’ve gone from wondering who could step up as captain to having a midfield full of them is a great plus and, unfortunately, shows how much of an overbearing presence maybe Deeney has been, and I am far from his harshest critic.

to slightly echo siohmy, it's a great problem to have and speaks of a much better atmosphere for whatever reasons. Does it matter too much whichever of those 3 CMs are captain, as long as they all play in the same way and lead by example regardless then it's great for morale and 'pashun' to lift the team through tough moments.

Cleverly for me, Hughes as VC.

A big part of captaincy is communication and see Clevs as one of the more vocal players.
He charges around and will demand that the others put in a shift too.

Hughes is very similar just think Clevs experience puts him above. Possibly less vocal but arguably a more important piece of the jigsaw.

deeney was vocal but played his game stood demanding the ball and flapping his arms around mostly this season which was probably one of the issues around the players ‘chat’ around body language and positivity on the pitch towards each other.
