I would be very worried if the pundits all plumped for us to finish 7th - given their pretty dismal knowledge and predictions.
From the position we are in now, if we win the next two, then we'll finish 7th. It's funny at how the 4 clubs in the run in are being portrayed. Everton need to be 7th Wolves deserve to be 7th Leicester will probably be 7th Watford shouldn't be there and should be fighting it out with Brighton and Cardiff at the bottom.....but will finish 7th. On The Debate last week because we were 10th, we were not even in the conversation. They couldn't see how close it was, and they analysed the run in saying eithrt Leicester or Wolves would finish 7th. Now we are 7th.....from absolutely nowhere apparently.....I wonder if that's fried their brains a little.
Beat Southampton and Wolves and get at least a draw with West Ham and it's in the bag. Wolves are looking ragged so we may not even need that. Would be incredible to see us in Europe. If we kept hold of the likes of Deulofeu and Doucoure as well and added a couple of players with a bit of quality at the back and out wide then I'd expect us to do OK too.
Not sure tinpot Man Utd understand the importance of this game to proper clubs like ourselves. I guess Everton are now very much in the running (for anyone who felt they weren’t before)
Everton have Palace &Spurs away and Burnley at home against us who have Saints, Wolves & West Ham at home and Chelsea away. It is in our hands.
This will change instantly once Troy becomes a pundit. Expect Watford This, Watford That for the next 20 years.
The older Neville doing a first rate self pitying job. None of the pundits have the cojones to say that Pogba is a fraud. Once he’s an official pundit, Troy will wipe the floor with these phoneys.
It's a three horse race from here. Watford Southampton (H) Wolves (H) Chelsea (A) West Ham (H) Wolves Arsenal (H) Watford (A) Fulham (H) Liverpool (A) Everton Palace (A) Burnley (H) Spurs (A) Looking at Wolves, Arsenal at home is definitely the type of game they could win. Let's say that they do pick up the three points. They don't really stand a chance away at Liverpool on the final day of the season, but they should breeze past Fulham. That's 6 more points for them, excluding the game against us. Everton, well, they will pick up at most 6 points as I can't see them getting anything at spurs. That leaves Wolves on 54 points and Everton on 55. Then there is us and our game against Wolves. To surpass Everton on 55 we realistically need 7 points given their superior goal difference. 6 of those points would most likely come from Southampton and West Ham. The 7th point really needs to come from Wolves, giving them 55 and us 56. If we beat Wolves and Southampton, it is difficult to see how we finish anywhere other than 7th. A draw against Southampton would require wins against Wolves and West Ham. A loss against Southampton and … who knows? A loss against Wolves makes this slightly more interesting. That takes them to 57 points and then we can't catch them unless we beat Chelsea. Remember this assumes they beat Arsenal. If they don't it is a lot simpler. Really what this boils down to is Southampton is a must win game, Wolves is a must not lose game, and we can hope Wolves don't beat Arsenal to make it easier for us. Everything will be much clearer next weekend when we all have 2 games left. In the mean time, COYH!
I have to admit, Everton's win over Arsenal, Chelsea and United has surprised me. It's put them right up there. But, like you say, it's in our hands. However, we cannot expect to screw up and finish 7th. We can afford to lose at Chelsea, but that's about it. We have to now beat Southampton and Wolves in order to be in the box seat. Beat the Saints, and that puts up 3 points ahead of Everton on level games. Beat Wolves and that puts us at least 4 points clear with two to play on level games. Might be even more than 4 points if they fail to be Arsenal on Wednesday. Win on Tuesday, and that puts us 9 points clear of West Ham on level games with 3 to play, so it seems highly unlikely we'll finish lower than 10th whatever happens. Remaining matches:- Everton 49 points: Palace (a ), Burnley (h ), Spurs (a ) Leicester 48 points: Arsenal (h ), City (a ), Chelsea (h ) Wolves 48 points: Arsenal (h ), Watford (a ), Fulham (h ), Liverpool (a ) If we win our next two, then I'd say we're virtually there. We'd be on 55 points. If that happens the maximum Wolves could get is 57, Everton 58 points and Leicester 57 points. Looking at their fixtures, I doubt any of those sides will get more than 55 points. We'd have the final two games, where maybe we'd need something against West Ham, but I think 55 points will be enough this season for 7th place.
Did you see final score on the BBC yesterday? When they reviewed the games at the end and got the player/manager interviews all the talk from the pundits in regards to Wolves and Leicester was about their race for 7th. When they eventually came to the Watford game (which they did last)the stupid bint presenting it lead with watford have had a good season surely they wont sack the manager in the off season, a murmur of agreement from the pundits and that was it.
I didn't see that, but it doesn't surprise me. The strange thing is we were only 1 point from 7th with a game in hand, but were completely out of the picture in the reckoning. It's as if we were 6 points behind or something. Now it will all be about Everton doing it, and a hope for wonderful Wolves and luscious Leicester......****y Watford should be grateful for avoiding relegation and not sacking another coach.
Just think what might have been if we'd bought one decent centre back to partner Cathcart With Utd and Arsenal imploding we might have crept into the top 6
It looks like they got rid of this season's predictions - I'm assuming they were as fair and accurate as the previous season's ones...
I cant see us finishing 7th.. cause surely the Hornet hating football world will collude against us to make sure that doesnt happen. I imagine plans are already afoot to hold clandestine meetings involving referees, The Premier League, pundits, the BBC, the Masons, The Illuminati etc to stop the potential menace of Watford fc playing in Europe. Actually i think Brexit was specifically set up to help prevent that abomination from happening. PS Ive read quite a few comments in the media about how we are in a great position to end up in a euro spot, though you'd never believe it reading some of the above.
Finally you are talking some sense Stevo. I am especially looking forward to us being denied 3 clear cut penalities on Tuesday. Followed by 2 red card challenges that only end up as bookings for saints. We will then have Deulofeu sent off for violent conduct because his hair flicked a player in the face that the FA will not overturn. Once down to 10 men we will then lose to a Saints penalty, awarded by the most blatant dive of the season, that Salah would be proud of.
The three Troy exclusion games increase in difficulty in the order they are played, we have achieved maximum points in game 1, to help we need one of Holibas or Pereyra back for game 2 and both back for game 3, then Troy back for the Chelsea game, 7th assured and make changes for the last game (West Ham) to have everyone available for the Cup Final!
This player would have collided with Cathcart in training, ruling both out for the majority of the season. We would then be left with Calamity Kabs and Mishap Mapps as first choice CBs. Meaning more game time for Belligerent Britos and the lesser spotted 'leaden-footed', Precarious Prodl. Relegation Certs then becomes a modern day Nostradamus?
7th place will go to the final day, so I doubt we'll be making any changes for that game with the cup in mind. I agree though that we need at least one, ideally both, of Pereyra and Holebas back for Southampton, though I'd say Pereyra is probably more important at the moment. With both of them back, then we need not worry about the absence of Troy regardless of the opponent tbh, the rest of the team is good enough.
Personally I think you will finish 7th. It would be great for your fans as you'll have some epic away days but don't underestimate the effect of Thursday night football. Good luck in the cup!
Being what he is, Pozzo will probably buy a load of foreigners & station them in Europe. So European away games will, in fact, be home games. Hashtag Loophole!
