Financial ruin if it is correct that Watford do not gave any relegation clause in their contracts.
Look what happened to other clubs who failed to safeguard against relegation from the Premier league.
Foolish of the CEO and Owner if true.

Hypothetical I know but I think Ings would fill his boots playing in a 3 with Delefeou and Sarr.
In fact any striker outside the very best teams would be looking to score regularly.

Heard on talksport about an hour ago that most of the squad have a 50% wage reduction relegation clause . However I do not know if this is fact .

Leventhal said 50% clauses in a lot of the contracts. So who’s reporting otherwise?

I agree. I think the tendency of our defence to hoof it is a by product of deliberate tactics and Troy’s shortcomings. They’re not the best defenders but I’m pretty sure they’ve got the technical ability to make a short pass if coached to do so.

Pearson moved Docuore forward, has that worked? Have we gained anything from it? If we had a fit Gerry and a more mobile forward then I don’t see how it would be that hard to coach our midfield to collect the ball from the defenders.

WillisWasTheWorst Its making less grammar mistake's thats important

Long balls to Deeney, with midfielders or wide forwards supporting is a way of playing but, if that’s the tactic, do it quickly! For years now the Watford defence and defensive midfielders knock the ball around for ages in their own half and THEN play the long ball. This just wastes time and lets the opposition all get into position. It’s neither one thing nor the other.

Agreed . And throwing your weight around might bully the Arse but most teams have players
who can deal with that . Clutching at straws tho, who do we play on Saturday ?

    A. I’m not sure it’s fair referencing Navarro or Sinclair given the grand total of times they’ve played for us!
    B. Deeney has a big presence in the wider game. If made available, I suspect a few clubs would take him as a backup option or in the upper end of the Championship. But they shouldn’t.
    C. Gray would sell quicker than Kiko, 100%

I’m talking as if these are all made available at accessible prices and not as if Pozzo is trying to make his money back etc. But I think you get a longer list of clubs willing to part with £6m-£8m for Gray than you do for Kiko at say £2m-£3m.

Our goals conceded are in touching distance of the teams in 11th, 12th and 13th. Our goals scored are way behind.

Southampton have conceded 3 more than us, but scored an additional 14!

Given the financial situation currently around football I don't think there would be
many clubs outside the Prem prepared to take a punt on Gray . Also wage demands
determine many things as well for example if André's agent is demanding £50k a week
and Kiko's agent is looking for £10k then where is the value ?

You did kinda say the whole squad. (I would insert a smiley face here but they aren't working for me!)

And your example of Deeney, with the club announcing he has an ongoing knee problem it lessens any desirability or transfer fee for potential suitors, stands for the rest of the squad. To us the players aren't playing to their full potential so are duds but there is always someone thinking they can get that extra percentage out of them or see a players qualities fitting into their side better. It won't necessarily be a club in a top division or as you say go for top dollar, but all of our players will have admirers somewhere. Or a desperate club unable to get their first, second or third choice player.

Just like the same mangers/coaches getting re-hired despite getting sacked for any perceived failure, so the players are on a merry-go-round of their own and will generally find someone to buy them.

Well Gray is one of them ..

Even more reason to flog him!

Thought it was Gray and Doucoure on 70k a week?
    Tempted to believe Adam more.

Possibly. But the reporter who has written the story was the first to break news of Pearson going - well in advance of Leventhal. I’d say he’s got sources for what he writes.

It is about cash flow. we trade lower annual wages for longer contracts. So a player who looks at it says £2 million for three years or £1,300,000 for 5 years. The later is a better deal. Protect yourself with relegation clauses, means that each year your total wage bill is 35% lower than your competitors. leaves you money to go out and speculate that you can buy in many more players and through selling generate a profit. it does mean for every Richarlison and Doucoure you have a Cathcart or Prodl, instead of an Ake.

Only when it's against the club at which he started his career, against the manager who gave him his debut and whom he then followed to Burnley. Of course I'm not saying it was deliberate but he was practically crying when he momentarily forgot and accidentally scored with a 20 yarder.

Our payroll table generally looks really bad, with Gray, Deeney and Cleverley all in our top five earners.
