I'm sure we must have had a post like this before, and if someone can dig it up by all means amalgamate this with it if you want. However, right now I think we all need a boost, and remembering why we continue to support the Golden Boys might just help.

Funnily enough although I've been a supporter for a very long time mine is fairly recent, and it's my favourite because of the extremes of emotion I went through in that few minutes could not have been more far apart: -

Yes it's the "Do not scratch your eyes out......" Deeney goal against Leicester in the playoff semi-final at the Vic.

I can remember feeling in the depths of despair when that diving cheat won a the penalty for
Leicester, but then the absolute elation when Deeney put the final touch on that exquisite move that started with the double penalty save and ended with the ball finding the Leicester net only seconds later.

The extremes of emotion were so bitter sweet

I probably said it on the previous thread. One moment that was right up there for me was an Ashley Young goal away at QPR.

I was in the stand behind the goal as Furlong's lob shot looped over Foster, seemingly putting QPR ahead. Furlong wheeled away celebrating in front of the fans to our right, QPR fans on both sides celebrating and taunting us, Watford fans despondent as the ball sailed towards the net.

It hit the bar, bounced down and away from the goal line, Foster grabbed the ball, launched it upfield, and two touches later Ashley Young had curled it into the back of the net.

"You're not singing any more" I think sums it up best...

The moment Allan Smart smashed in the goal to seal the 1999 play off final. Our first win (only one at the old) Wembley, 38k Hornets going mad as it was scored down at our end.

Same as me Otter. The Smart goal.

Deeney moment was ruined a bit for me by watching it in Genoa on a dodgy feed. Saw penalty given and then everything went blank. When it came back everyone was on the pitch and Zola had fallen over. Had no clue what was happening. First thought was I’d never seen such celebrations for a penalty save!

That game features what I think is my all-time favourite Watford goal. The fifth - scored by Luther. 2 passes from one end of the pitch to the other and thumped in. Ian Bolton (I think) plays a pin-point accurate pass from just outside his own box (or hoofs it aimlessly up the field if you believed the press at that time) down the line to Callaghen who crosses first time for Luther to arch his neck and power a header in to the net at the Vicarage Road end. Magic!

Yep always this. After all the shyt that had been hurled at GT during the 90s this was his redemption. At that moment we knew we'd ******* done it and he'd shoved all those turniphead headline writers words right down their wretched throats.

That bolton team was mustard too.

Bolton were very good and they threw the kitchen sink at us for most of the first 35 minutes, Chamberlain kept us in it. Just before our goal we forced a few corners until the one where Wright scored that wonder goal. I have next to no recollection of the second half apart from a near miss from Mooney and Smart's goal.

Great memories all the above. For me it's more of a somber one. Cold gray day mid May at Turf Moor. Lost 2-0 but result was meaningless it's what happened after. Myself along with loads of other fans wearing the GT is GOD t-shirt. Seeing him waving farewell was a moment I will never forget.

Fortunately the end of the following season was burnt in the deepest pits of hell.

Kaiserslautern in 1983 game takes some beating, on a cold night we overturned a 1-3 deficit to win 3-0 after scoring twice unexpectedly in the first 10 minutes, could we score another and hold on! yes we did! together with the Deeney Leicester moment the best for me!

Millennium Stadium was a stay at home job for me, I was 11 and had only just been to my first two games at the Vic that season, but I remember being jealous of my mates who did go

Actually there are too many moments so hard to decide, Deeney goal v Leicester was hard to beat, 4-0 at Luton, I really genuinely enjoyed losing 6-1 away to Blackburn in a mid week cup game as the atmosphere was great, Steve Sherwoods testimonial vs Hearts etc etc.

The 1984 cup final was a special life moment for me. I was so happy I cried my little eyes out when the teams emerged from the tunnel. I know some people on here will hate me for it, but I was proud of my town and club even in defeat and not ashamed to say I waved my flag. I’m still proud.

QPR away was always a favourite. Always seemed to put 3 past them. I remember ruining their unbeaten start and their fans throwing bottles at us as we left the ground. Pretty sure @wfcwarehouse got hit by one, could have been plastic though

The things immediately coming to mind are
    1 Hogg - DEENEY!
2 Martin Patching's goal against Liverpool
3 Ian Richardson's first goal against Kaiserslautern
    4 Abdi's goal at Fulham
    5 Smart's goal at Wembley
6 Alec's save in the penalty shootout at Birmingham
    7 Troy's pen at Wembley
8 The pressure we put on Wednesday and Leicester in the opening 15 minutes of our 4-1 home wins in the Div 2 promotion season
9 Any number of crosses by Cally, dribbles by Barnes, goals by Luther and interceptions by John McClelland
10 When McClelland was bringing the ball out of defence against Bournemouth, a Bournemouth players (Luther) fouled him from behind and the Watford crowd started chanting Luther! Luther!

Honestly can't decide between Smart's Wembley goal and Hogg....Deeney!

The former shades it looking at end result. The latter would take it as an unbelievable moment given we scored from a Leicester penalty in a playoff semi-final, and that we were all convinced a mere 15 seconds earlier that we were out.

Have to say though, while Smart gets the plaudits the ball in to him from Kennedy was unreal. Just an inch perfect, pinpoint pass at the end of a high pressure game.

Birmingham play off away 99. Conceded in 1st minute. They absolutely battered us for the rest of the game. Alec made quite simply some of the best saves I've ever seen. The one that won it in the penalties I don't remember just remember me my dad and his workmates going mental. Was a quiet journey home in the car as we had all lost our voices. Oh and we parked in Bolton road lol

So going to change the rules a bit here as I’m fairly sure all the above are always mentioned.

How about a couple of random ones.

here’s one, early 90’s, during the fall asleep years when we would sell the first half decent player we had and replace with someone from the lower leagues (yeah yeah the same is happening now!)

We were at home to the glamorous Southend United on a dark wet winters Saturday afternoon. Absolutely atrocious game but in injury time Lee Nogan hit a winner. Travelled the 100 miles home with a big smile on my face. Those were the days when I didn’t really care about the entertainment that much as long as we won.

As the most obvious ones have gone fro. The last 30 years, i’ll also throw in Mooney at anfield and Peterbrough 4-3. The peterbrough game was wonderful chaotic terraces, it really mattered, and the goal machine that was Dennis Bailey, sorry i mean Gerard Lavin, smashed home a laser into the corner. Digweed was of course abysmal.

Sherwood’s testimonial is a great shout, although it can’t be anywhere near the best moment. It’s the only time I’ve been on the pitch at Vicarage Road and I remember passing Steve Sims who was clearly delighted to be back at Watford. Little did either of us realise that GT was about to leave. The night was made by the terrific Hearts fans who had turned up in big numbers; I can’t imagine that happening these days. I’ve had a soft spot for Hearts ever since.

Haha, I always remember that game, I went with a friend a Southend Fan and our sons, my friend said as we were driving to the game that he hoped there would be goals in the game, in the 91st minute up-popped Lee Nogan I turned to my friend and said “ you said you hoped there would be goals, you got your wish! “

That time when Troy Deeney came on with a few minutes to go against LTFC in the BCD game at the start of the 20/21 season. I will never forget the feeling as that injury time penalty kick hit the back of the net!
