Only just got the job too !

From what they said on Talksport the German players will have to social distance when they get to the ground and will be tested - subs away from the starting players etc.

Once the game starts they can play as normal but the managers might have to wear masks!

Then what I found a little strange and risky is they will be allowed home to family but they all have to isolate so really is a case of relying on players etc being very disciplined!

This was for the first weeekend then they will asses afterwards.

According to the ONS, footballers (sportsmen) are amongst the lowest risk when it comes to a ranking of jobs by exposure to disease (243 of 359 jobs), this is despite it being mid-ranking in terms of proximity to people (165 out of 359). They are listed as being at lower risk than the hairdressers Troy refers to by way of comparison.

Also, the reason footballers can be in a crowder penalty area, but fans can't be in the stadium, is because fans aren't all being tested every few days, and 22 people is a lot easier to keep tabs on than 22,000.

Troy is probably just worried because he's seen that coronavirus is a bigger risk for obese people and he's been piling on the pounds again during lockdown.

If all the players and staff have tested negative, then what exactly are they going to be potentially bringing back to their families anyway?

I'd rather be in a penalty box with fully tested players than on a tube carriage.

Yes players can't socially distance at work/games. So the only alternative is not work or test and trace like South Korea and others are doing as a whole country. It's a perfectly reasonable alternative in the future once we have enough tests.

Footballers are lucky that their industry is one of the very few capable of implementing it. And are probably safer playing and getting tested all the time than the rest of the population are going about their normal lockdown lives.

I'm guessing that's why you haven't been out as well.

Tbf I think Troy and others want to play themselves but are worried about their family and friends.

Maybe concerned if they get ill whilst the players are away .

But then guess a lot of people could say that and are more of a risk.

The tube carriage analogy doesn’t work - as one would imagine you are using the tube to get to work. But you can find alternative means of transport.
You can’t find alternative ways of attacking/defending a corner - or playing football in general.

Whike I understand the point you’re making, there are probably better analogies to use!

I've not been piling on any pounds of fat during lockdown, that's for sure.

Support Mainz only if you’re a party loving wine drinker who thinks winning is not that important, apparently.

So it's Mainz for GoingDown, then

Meister will probably go for the Hamburgers.

    Do Mainz wear red shorts?

Not everyone's fit enough for an 8-mile cycle or walk, and the same to get home again.

2 out of 3 isn't bad. I'm no '5-0 down and wave a yellow flag' fan unfortunately.

Not got the slightest interest in watching preseason friendly style German football with all the atmosphere of a dentist's waiting room.

If you live in chesham and get the metro line into zone 1 what is the alternative? An £80 taxi each way?

And as happy bunny says cycling and walking isn't an option for lots of central London workers who might not be able to afford taxis everywhere.

Then they need to have that conversation with their workplace. Much the same as footballers are doing no?

As stated above, then those people need to speak to their employers/unions. Much the same as footballers are doing. It goes both ways.

    What's the alternative?
No football or non essential work until there is a vaccine? What do we do if we never get one?

I've had a soft spot for Kaiserslautern ever since we knocked them out of the UEFA Cup

Mind you, I've seen Bayern knocked out of the UEFA Cup by my second team, and the whinging of Lothar Matteus did nothing to generate any affection for them

I’m not suggesting there is a viable alternative right now. We don’t fully disagree with one another.

But I find it hard to criticise footballers who are clearly concerned about being asked to play.

And I fully agree with Glenn Murray yesterday - football will find a way to survive another month if we wait another 30 odd day’s for the rates to continue to come down. Football is behaving like those maniacs who queue up outside Next at 4am on Boxing Day...

You're all fools. How are the players supposed to social distance?

There's only one question: striker or subbuteo?

  30. GoingDown

Just turn their heads when getting up from a tackle. And no calling for the ball. Instant reds.

Also, refereeing to be done via zoom on all big screens.

Fool! The plastic head on the players on both games are made of really cheap plastic and will snap off.

I do remember going to watch one of my schoolmates at a 'big' subbuteo competition and there were major scandals about some kids he had to play one of whom tried to field quite a few headless, armless players and the other who fielded a team of rugby players.

I’m in the void season camp but you talk as if there is no level of risk that is acceptable. As soon as infection levels are deemed low enough I will be happy to get on the tube. Even in 2/3 months time that will be more risky that 20 pre-tested footballers in a penalty area. We can’t cower in our homes forever and when each activity is deemed an acceptable level of risk we need to get on with it:
