I agree with this. I reckon we should end up with enough talent in the squad to get promoted again, but what I'm unsure about is if we'll have enough fighters or talismans.

Obviously Deeney was our Captain and talisman when we got promoted lest time, and he really has to leave now, but we don't currently seem to have anyone else in the squad who seems capable of taking on that mantle.

I reckon that in addition to the younger talent we're likely to give more of a chance, we'll need to bring in at least one CB and CM with battling and leadership qualities to ensure the mentality is right. Even though quality in the Championship does usually win out, it is still a demanding, rough-and-tumble league and a team that might be full of c.20 year-olds like JP, Quina, Wilmot, Dele-B, Cucho, Suarez etc. could likely still struggle over the course of the season, however talented they are, without some real grafters alongside them.

We'd also need a calming older head when the team hits a bad run (or looks in danger of doing so) and to help us see out tight games under pressure. Sadly at the moment I can't think of anyone in our squad who'd be good at that right now. Any suggestions?

Hi - I'm new here. Been a lifelong Watford fan for over 45 years and really enjoyed the run in the premiership. What I'm looking for next season is
1) Hopefully keeping Sarr, Wellbeck and Delefeou
2) finishing above Bournemouth.
3) Seeing some new exciting young players playing expansive, attacking football (Quina, Joao Pedro, Pussetto)
4) Giving Deeney the send off he deserves for his outstanding service to the club.
5) A new Captain, I would pick Capoue, Hughes or Wellbeck, if any of them are still at the club

Agree with you about the grafters. We need a player in the mold of Eustace/Behrami in the middle. Something we don’t have.
