Does anyone know as to why the clocks on the scoreboards stop at 45 and then 90 minutes, it would be better if they included the extra minutes the ref plays on at the end! I'm not sure if this happens at all grounds or some timers run on and some don't!
It is probably some FA / EPL law that the clocks cant go past 90 mins as it might incite us to riot if 4 mins are declared and the ref plays 8 against us
We have of course, to remember that it is a minimum of x minutes, so if there is incident or time wasting, the ref., at his discretion, can add further minutes.
This is true. However, refs rarely, if ever do so, and it infuriates me massively. Both for and against us. Chelsea took at least 45 seconds to take a free kick/throw in during added time, and the ref still blows up dead on 94 mins
The ref always has a free pass to add on X amount if we’re winning (aka Everton) to give the opposition tine to score and play to the second if we’re losing to ensure a defeat.
Was thinking this at West Ham. If we were still winning 1-0 I feel very confident that 5/6 minutes would have been signalled for added time. As it was 2-0 and the game was pretty much done, only 3/4 was given
For the same reason contentious decisions are not shown on the big screen or why we can't bring beer into the stands, (or officially stand up). We're not trusted.
It was more fun in the olden days before 4th officials holding up signs, when the crowd used to whistle like mad from about the 85th minute onwards when we were holding on for a win.
Surely more than 3 minutes today with all that time wasting? Note the ref let it go to nearly 4 so they could take a free kick.
3 mins today was odd. Isn’t every sub supposed to be 30 seconds as well as a goal? That’s 2.5 straight up before we get to their time wasting. Time wasting is so effective because refs are so weak. If I was a ref I’d add on about 17 minutes.
I think the exact amount of time per event is one of those tv pundit myths. But 3 was very low today. Guarantee if we were 2-1 up he'd have given 5 or 6 minutes.
They were thinking about it but no idea if it will come in.. Teams will just do it after 88 minutes and rely on the ref to add it on or not...
It would be interesting to see how long a game was if the clock was stopped every time the ball was dead, like in the NFL when a 60 minute game actually lasts for about three hours.
In most games you get the feeling all players want to be active for as little time as possible, they all waste time. The sooner they change to 30 active minutes per half the better.
Me too. But the tv companies would give a nod and a wink to the FA and we would find ourselves out of work on Saturday afternoons.
