    I can think of some:
    - First, I don't really give a t**s about the cup anyway, so now that we're out of it we can save our energy and concentration for the more important league position
    - Second, Deeney participating in such a shambles should hopefully underline again to Silva that he should be behind Gray and Okaka in the pecking order
    - Third, Holebas getting sent off should hopefully speed up the search for a left-back

Hopefully it never comes to that though as Richie looks our only decent winger.

That was a weird one, dominated the first 10 minutes, had them pegged in their own half.

Gomes is one I'm starting to doubt a little bit, need serious competition, first was a good striker but my initial thought was it travelled rather slow and could've been saved.

Mariappa needs to be put down. Unfamiliar surroundings at right back might save him from a 0/10 but that was an absolutely shambolic performance.

Kabasele & Prodl I can't remember too much of, they conceded 3 so must have been poor. Prodl looked disinterested.

Holebas was his standard self, think he was humiliated by the air shot so took the player out.

Hughes took time to grow into it, lovely one touch passing for the goal, beautiful stuff.

Capoue must love the start of a season. Great finish.

Watson was shocking. Championship is calling.

    Amrabat shambolic.

Richarlison is a star, great first half, faded second half, hit the post with a nice header.

Deeney was a sad sight to see. Hero for the last five years and it just looked like the game was passing him by and not for the want of trying. Going to give him the benefit of the doubt considering recent operation, lack of fitness and match time but he was terrible. I would say he looks a shadow of his former self but he is horribly overweight, needs to lean up ASAP. It looks like a huge effort for him to move his frame right now, watched him stretch for a ball few times and it just felt heavy (that make sense to anyone?). I really hope he gets back to the Deeney we know and love because that was rather hard to watch :(

Success is dangerous but STILL raw. Dodgy touch gave them their second, more of a threat than Amrabat but also more of a liability.

Gray should've scored. Other than that didn't touch the ball.

    Feel like Okaka is off?

Bristol City weren't even good just wanted it a bit more. We played some nice stuff but were just too slow, if we played that with Premier League intensity and drive, it would've been 4/5 - 0.

In conclusion, we weren't out thought just out fought. Does anyone reaaaallly care though? Would've loved a cup run but it's not going to impact our season in any way nor is it a sign of things to come. Onwards to Brighton.

Special shout out to 1881 who didn't stop singing.

Thanks! Bobby came off the bench to score too, he's having a really good start to the season! Couldn't stop scoring in preseason and has now scored 5 goals and 1 assist this season!

Really good to see Hinds scoring too! Scored a screamer on his debut against Plymouth in the first round too.

    Good luck for the season.

Would be bonkers considering how well he played in the first game and how off the pace Deeney is.

The team we played Bournemouth should be our first team, with the inclusion of pereyra when fit.

You can see the differences when the pace and stamina of doucoure and chalobah is taken out of the team, including cleverly and femenia too.

I wasnt bothered anyway, few less games to play I suppose.

First of all well played Bristol. A typical championship performance, close down, defend deep and in numbers and take the chances that come your way.

Marco will have learnt a lot from that. Mapps, Amrabat aren't good enough. Kabasele needs a kick up the arse, Troy needs to complete his pre-season fitness program, Capoue, Watson and Hughes aren't going to be starters but bench warmers and Gomes needs more competition.

Interesting to see who starts at left back Saturday

In this particular case I think the whole Watford defensive set-up can take the blame for his yellows, especially the first one. They were caught out by counter-attacking football - far too many players let the opposition in behind them. He was left trying to solve problems caused by others: 'Take one for the team' as the saying has it. Unfortunately he took two! In fact Bristol were angry the ref stopped it for the second: They were through 3 on none (!) if he hadn't chopped the guy. He should probably just have shrugged his shoulders and let others take the blame and stayed available for Sat.
Mind you, I agree he is generally petulant and belligerent most of the time.
He is also an important part of our attack - he's the one who manages to get crosses in.

Mariappa was shocking, anyone that wanted to go past him could with little difficulty.

Disappointing debut for Hughes, outmuscled far too often.

Never seen a winger lack as much confidence in themselves as Amrabat. Refuses to try and beat someone for pace, refuses to cross, refuses to shoot. How he still starts every game is beyond me.

Deeney looked trim, but obviously needs more time.

Richarlison looked fantastic in the first half, but when he switched flanks at HT they doubled up on him. Still had a couple of good chances though.

Kabasele poor on the ball and I don't think he'll ever be PL standard sadly.

Our atrocious record in the tin pot cup can't be a coincidence. I think the majority of players picked resent it rather than see it as an opportunity to show the manager what they can do. I can't really blame them to an extent, being picked by the manager (whichever manager it happens to be that year) in this fixture, is essentially the manager confirming to them they aren't and will not be first choice this season. Footballers are proud and being made to sing for their supper against a championship sides reserve team is not going to generate a good performance.

Pretty much agree with all of that KD.
It was very evident that Troy was off the pace and that is understandable given his operation.I thought he was unfortunate with the glanced header in the first half but really should have scored soon after but couldn't get the ball out from his feet.
Silly me! I thought tonight we might get the hang of the League/Milk/Rumbelows/Carling/Coca Cola/Lord knows whatever it's called Cup.

Amrabat saw plenty of the ball first half but did nothing with it. Slow and ponderous with it, often just going back to Mariappa, he may as well have not been there.
Hughes is very silky on the ball and looked to be taking up good positions between their defence and midfield bu didn't get the ball nearly enough for whatever reason. Needs to assert himself more.
Deeney ineffective. Doesn't have good enough movement.
Richarlison didn't do much either. Their back line was very deep for much of the game, leaving him no space to run in to behind and he was often stranded out on the touchline where he can't cause any problems.
Success was direct when he came on and looked to make things happen. Unfortunately for him his final ball is crap 9/10 times. One great cross for Richarlison.
Watson and Capoue didn't have enough urgency in the middle. Neither of them give us what Doucoure does with his driving runs.

A disappointing night in the league cup yet again.

After losing to Gillingham I told myself I'm not going to bother with matches at this stage of the tournament anymore. It's always so depressing. No atmosphere, hardly any fans, and sh1t performances. I conned myself into thinking tonight would be different. After the positive start and all the feel good factor, that same "Gillingham" night is still part of our DNA.

I could have consoled myself though had we played our reserves, but the line-up was far stronger than I was expecting. Gomes in goal, Prodl and Holebas in defence. Hughes making his debut, Deeney back in the starting XI, Amrabat, Capoue and Merlin were all playing. Gray and Cleverley came on later. That should have been more than enough to see off Bristol City second XI.......yes they do have a league game on Friday.

Firstly I blame the attitude of the players to not being right. There was no tempo in the first half. We were just passing it around in front of City, with no direction or purpose. Deeney did get a 1 v 1 just before half time, but took far too long to get a shot off and was tackled.

Second half started better and we took the lead. A very good finish from Capoue as well. Then it all went horribly wrong. We just sat back and started to play slowly. City scored a cracker of an equaliser, then we just fell apart. Every time City attacked they got into our penalty box without anyone close to their players. How could they have so many unmarked players in our own penalty area? It was just a matter of time before they took the lead.

When you see the second and third goals, they will look horrible from a Watford point of view. The miss of the match was amazing from a City player though. Once again they walked through our defence and found a simple square pass was enough to find an unmarked player. All he had to do was pass it into the net, but somehow took too long and allowed Gomes to save. It didn't matter though as a couple of minutes they did the same thing again, finding an unmarked player and this time he did not miss.

Mapps did slot home a consolation, by then in an empty stadium.

I think tonight did highlight there are a couple of players past their sell by date. We really missed the Doucoure, Chalobah, Cleverley triangle. It gives us the pace and energy. That was missing, add to that a flaky defence, and ponderous centre forward, it really all added up I guess.

I don't put too much blame on Deeney's performance. It was well below par, but then he's missed pre-season and it was his first game back after his op. You have to be a bit understanding.

But there were not too many knocking on the door for Saturday. Whoever gets dropped can have no complaints after tonight.

Rubbish night, to add to the collection of various League Cup rubbish nights.

Amrabat was crap again. He just isn't good enough. Time to get rid.

Success played miles better than Amrabat did, looked far more dangerous on the ball and was always looking to ping it into the box. If he still finds himself playing second fiddle to Amrabat come Brighton on Saturday, then he may as well ask for a one way ticket to Leganes. He is miles better than Amrabat.

Pretty much got to agree with you. The defence was alarming: I wasn't at the Liverpool game but the MOTD highlights showed 'pool players not picked up at all as they ran through. I thought 'well... this is Liverpool'. But when Bristol reserves can do that (and yes I realize WFC ended up chasing the game) then we have a problem. Remedy? How about clarity of individual roles during each eventuality, repetitive training till it's pretty much muscle memory and a good kick up one or two backsides?

    My thoughts on the match:

That was as bad as any mazzarri performance, and surprise surprise is coincides with guff like watson, Deener and amrabat huffing and puffing round the pitch. Get rid of the lot of them.

MOTM probably Holebas. The only one that cared. His first booking was forced upon him by his useless teammates and his second was due to trying too hard too
win the ball back. All those who watched the game on ceefax who are slagging him off are making themselves look daft.

Other positives: Success. With good management this oaf will be a world beater.

Amrabat and Watson: just **** OFF.

    Deeney utterly inept.

Gomes: looks old and well past it

    Prodl doesn't look right either

Gray will never ever make it at Watford. He's **** and a ****.

I can't even remember who else played, but they were all useless ****

Oh yeah Hughes, looks feeble and frail. He'll be back in the Championship before long

    **** off Watford

Disagree. Amrabat works far harder defensively and keeps a much better shape to his game. There's a quality player in there somewhere, just absolutely bemused by how much his confidence has faded considering how good he was at this stage last year.

Another £10 wasted. I swear we would do better if these were away matches. Small crowd (an own goal without cash sales at turnstiles), I was not that bothered we lost, the players were not that bothered. Even the Bristol City players did not seem that ecstatic about the win. I sat in The Rookery and it was an interesting different perspective to my normal LGT view. Such a contrast on Saturday. Slow ponderous play. five well taken goals. Of our team I will make allowances for Deeney lack of match fitness, it was a good run out for him. Gray should have scored after our pinball passing in front of their goal. He needs to do better. Amrabat is hopeless, but success did little to wrest that place in the starting 11 from him. Chalbolah, Doucore and Cleverley are now our midfield three. Despite his goal Capoue is definitely 4th choice. Watson, Mariappa and Kabasele all look like scrapping the barrel squad players. Their passing was poor, their ability to keep the ball poor. Holebas was the only Watford player bothered about the result. His first booking was to prevent a break away after the midfield had lost the ball and his second was because he wanted us to win. I hope this weekend we beat Brighton and trim the squad of ineffective members

Oh dear. Think I'm going to have to retire from these league cup games!

The performance looked like something from a Mazzarri team - slow, ponderous, lethargic. First half we were comfortably on top, but without creating anything of note. City's keeper barely had any saves to make.

2nd half - great start, really thought we'd go on to win easily. But we just got out-fought by a team that wanted it more.

City's equaliser reminded me of Barkley scoring for Everton - the defence backed off so much the player was able to get miles up the pitch without a challenge and was basically invited to shoot. Shocking defending but great hit.

As said by others - Watson slowed the game down every time he had the ball. I think his time with us must be at an end.

Deeney looked so off the pace it was sad to watch. But he's been such a legend that I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that his lack of pre-season was the reason for this. Okaka looks miles better at the moment and would really hope that we're not planning on selling him.

Success - one-on-one running at defenders, I'd back him to get past every time. But his passing and finishing are poor. Can't remember if it was city's first or second goal, but it started with Success losing the ball and city breaking. I'm sure Amrabat is ahead of him because he doesn't give the ball away as cheaply (yes I know he gives the ball away at times).

Mariappa was poor, Hughes was average as was Kabasele.

Holebas did look like one of the few that cared. Ultimately his frustration at our crapness cost him the two cards. Perhaps Silva has to take the blame for this one as he knew we didn't have cover should something happen to him.

Puzzled why Gomes started. Does this mean Silva doesn't rate either back-up keepers?

As is often the case with results like this - the reputations of those not playing are enhanced. If they weren't already - Chalobah and Doucoure are 1000% first choice along with Cleverley, who came on too late to reverse the lethargy that had seemingly infected the whole team.

Left at 1-3 so didn't see our second goal.

I hope - and suspect - Silva had some choice words for them after the game.

Funniest moment of the night was when the chap behind me yelled out "has he asked for it in f***ing writing?" after Watson had delayed his pass to a team mate for the umpteenth time:D.

Count yourselves lucky.. i came all the way from Norway for that!

No i didnt really.. came over for a wedding and visiting relatives. I was excited to be in Watford today though.. and then the game started :( Managed to miss both our goals. 1st one cause finishing pint slowly and well we wasnt going to score quick after that first half were we?! 2nd cause i was in the queue to get out like everyone else.

Highlights of the day.. having an early walk right around the ground and seeing Dougie Brimson in the Red Lion (ok not a major highlight but it was one of those days)
