We've signed a striker at last!!!

    Helen Ward

I hope she gets the No 9 shirt in the mens 1st team as she is bound to do a better job than our existing bunch of misfiring ***** ;)

Have to agree with your line of thinking. Aside from a very small number of elite strikers like Saleh or Kane, a reasonable benchmark in recent times appears to be a return of 10 - 12 goals. There is a lack of quality strikers anyway due partially to few sides playing two up top. We do have one or two of our more direct players like Richarlison and Success, who with the right coaching might be able to step up. With close support from Hughes, Pereyra or Deulofeu it might work. Not sure if that would be Plan A or not. It all rather depends on who goes, aside from Okaka.

    Reported speech!

Overheard from the cubicle in the gents at Colney?

If so, was the accent Italian but with an American edge?

Was the squeak on the floor made by clearly expensive handmade shoes?

    Could be something in this.

    History will view QSF kindly.

If Reids writes that history, none of us on here will be any the wiser.

She was already playing for us, though; this is just a new deal, so it's even less of an improvement than Deulofeu.

Next season we will be playing a 460 system thus we don't need a striker .

TBF it will be a 4-2-4 system but the 4 upfront will be 2 wingers on either side.

Genuinely fear that we are going into next season with the hopeless forwards from this season.

    Negligence of the highest order.

Are you alright? I know that your mother died and you’ve mentioned that on here as a reason why you’re finding it hard to be your upbeat self etc. If you are then please do speak out about it, because these posts are just so unlike you and I and many others would be willing to help comfort you where possibly through this time.

Gracia did a competent job in steering us home and is hugely respected in Spain. Just because you hadn’t heard of him you disregarded his work beyond the top tier over there. You categorically called for a manager with experience in England, a method which went wrong for various other clubs, including relegated Swansea and Stoke. Despite this, you’ve double down. It’s baffling. There’s just no reason for you to be like this. You’re being entirely unfair to the man.

Sorry but he’s really not being unfair to him. Even though I’d say a large percentage of Malts post was tongue-in-cheek as he’s clearly said many times he is willing to give Gracia a chance now that is obvious he’s staying. Me and Malts had a similar outlook in that respect.

Malts never said he wanted a manager with experience in England - just that he would rather have a manager with a better all-round CV than Gracia. There are elements of Gracia’s
performance as coach last season that are intriguing and I’d like to see if he can build upon them and am willing to give him the chance to do so. But we shouldn’t forget the shortcomings either and I will also want to see how we get on in that regard.

Lastly, whilst I’m sure the sentiment and meaning is there, I don’t think it’s fair to bring up someone’s private life on here and use that in a way to get your football point across. That would be better in a DM.

I know there’s a viewpoint that we can’t always be grateful for what the Pozzos have done and continue to look forward and challenge them on an ongoing basis, but being happy you didn’t renew when we haven’t signed a striker is surely too far? Things are rosey, guys. The Pozzos and Duxbury have been nothing but excellent, guys. Can we not show some faith: patience/ understanding/ support, guys?

Saying that he’s a “hopeless head coach” isn’t unfair? If that isn’t then I don’t know what is. He’s been incredibly negative on Gracia, far beyond tongue in cheek comments. Like I say, so unlike him.

Malts absolutely said that he wanted someone with experience in this country, I’ve addressed that point before. Gracia does have a well-rounded CV imo, and if he had that CV in England I’m sure he’ll have been pleased.

I wasn’t using his private life as a way to get my point across, I couldn’t give a toss about football in relation to mental health, and I tried to separate the points entirely. Please don’t accuse me of that. I am genuinely concerned for what is clearly a top bloke who said part of the reason why he has been so negative was because of his private life. I’m not on here often by any means, I don’t even know how to DM, but if I see someone who may need support in any walk of life, I try and be there for them. And I know with his popularity on these boards many others would be too. As someone who has suffered with mental health quite badly, being as open as possible is certainly positive. Anyway, that’s my annual post done. Hope you’re well, Malts x

I can't tell if this is a weird joke or not, we're through the looking glass.

I was simply pointing out to the two people who kept referring to Malteser as a "he" and "a bloke" that, in fact, she's a "she".

Okay, that’s fair enough. I still think part of it would be better said in a private message but I apologise for insinuating you knew how to do that.

As for Gracia - I think everyone now is willing to give him a chance now that he’s been retained. Some will be excited, others apprehensive. But he has a clean slate with everyone I think.

Nope, Malts is definitely a guy!

    Not that it matters anyway.

TBF I believe Malts used to be a guy but is now a girl. Not that sexual orientation is relevant here.

Fecks sake I despair. Not one thing to do with football or cheese, loans or Deeneys weight.

    This forum is over.

I think part of the problem is we're fairly committed to Deeney and Gray now.

Both have contracts that have 3/4 years to go, costing us around £7m a season. Unless we can offload one or both of them, then bringing in a top quality striker isn't going to make financial sense.

Being relegated because all of our strikers are crap makes worse financial sense.

It does if we get relegated through lack of goals!

I have a feeling however (perhaps more of a desperate hope) that Success may turn his career around and be the one to make up for the shortage of goals from Deeney and Gray.

I think in Gray, Deeney, Success and Peneranda they have invested in a selection of strikers they probably feel a decent coach will get (enough) goals out of. Plus we have a very good midfield which should at least see us clear of the relegation danger some feel we could be in.

Most of those goals (especially Ighalo's) came before January & a large part of the reason was a lack of respect afforded to them by the good/average sides in the division. Because of the way QSF set us up, us nicking 1 or 2 goals against sides who were over-attacking us assuming we were one of the "must-win" games allowed us to bank the points we needed to be safe before sides worked out if they did not over-commit we were very unlikely to score. From January on we were worse than toothless.

Then they have not been paying attention, because our strikers are dismal and the hopes pinned on two players who have done nothing at a lower level are a triumph of hope over experience.

I understand that we are wedded to Deeney and Gray unless someone comes in for them, but surely at least of the useless terds could have been shipped out on some acceptable terms? Okaka is just stinking up the place these days too and just needs getting rid of.

It's poor management that we're sitting on such a terrible strike force at such a cost and unable to bring anyone in.
