Ways To End The Season Fairly

The clubs won’t vote for it.
No way will the clubs from the Top 6/7 allow Liverpool a free run at the title with a 25 point head start and effectively stop themselves having a chance to win it until 2023. I suspect they’d rather just give them this seasons and start equal next season if the above was proposed.

It seems the fairest way to solve the conundrum to me for ALL concerned, it's not just about a the top few teams it's about the whole football pyramid, what other way would work any better?

There is no fair way for all. The most sensible thing though is to void the season and just start afresh with everyone on zero. Get back to normal as soon as safe to do so.

Lots of people seem concerned with carrying on with this season or somehow incorporating this season into next, prolonging things and making things even more complicated. Football won’t want to still be feeling the knock-on effects of this is 1-2 years time, and will make a plan to get back to its usual structure in the shortest time possible.

If this season can’t be finished, then either void the lot or hand the title to Liverpool and the European places as they are and void the rest. But that second option should be almost out of the question to me.

It’s rumoured the PL are worried about ‘sporting integrity’ if they don’t crown Liverpool winners. ‘Sporting integrity’ would be questioned in the biggest way possible if you start rewarding teams for things they haven’t achieved and sets a worrying precedent in my opinion. As does giving teams points handicaps for any subsequent season.

On European qualification, we’ve been through this before. If you’re going to void the season, it means just that: nothing that happened counts for anything. The fact that Spurs were knocked out, for example, is irrelevant. The new season would start with the same teams in each division as last August, so the European places would again be taken by the teams that had qualified for them previously. It’s certainly unfortunate, but it’s also the most logical outcome.

From what I'm hearing the main focus is quite clearly to complete this season. The proposal I posted yesterday looks to be the way they are going to go with this. Finish this season, by hook or by crook.

It will only become an issue, I suspect, is if this situation remains as it is now if we get to September/October. Then another decision will have to be made.

I'm certain the outcome of Thursday's meeting will be to delay the season and to restart it at the first opportunity. Ideally it will be as soon as possible with crowds in attendance, but failing that, it will be behind closed doors. But the season will complete, unless we get to the autumn months still without playing any football.

At this stage, voiding the season is not an option.....or rather is the last thing they will consider.

Firstly we will see the outcome of UEFA's meeting, when the PL meet on Thursday I guess they will list the possibles, like what has been mentioned in this thread and then rank them in order of preference, then decide at what point the current preferred scenario is not possible.
I still think they will have to set a deadline of 30th June to complete the season.

They are only really worried about not being able to play their "game in hand", which is against an inform Sheff Utd. Of course, if they won that, it would push is into the bottom
three. But they don't care about that. Personally, I like the 2 up five down scenario, if the "void the season" is totally off the table. Yes it's harsh on all teams in the playoff places
in lower divisions - but it seems fair. Liverpool get their title to shut the scousers' up after 30 years of wait. Leeds and WBA come up - and we have even more chance of going down
    next season. It's almost perfect.

How is rewarding Leeds and WBA with a place worth hundreds of millions when they haven’t achieved it near perfect? At least Liverpool are a huge distance ahead that it’s arguable in their case. Leeds and WBA are not.

Alternatively if they do promote Leeds and WBA, don't give them the share of the 20, just a share of what the parachute payments would have been. A halfway house.

I agree with this and would go one step further. You can only go two ways. You either play out the season in its entirety, or you null and void it. There is no in-between scenario here.

If, when we get to end of June and there is still no hope of playing games, then you have very little choice but to null & void the entire season. No one goes up, no one goes down, no one wins a Championship etc. You cannot just pick and choose Liverpool winning the league or Leeds and West Brom to go up. That prospect will just not be considered as it's grossly unfair. You have to win these things on merit. This is why there is such a push on completion as this resolves all issues. I'd have great sympathy for Liverpool, but the rules have to be the same for everyone. There can be no exceptions to it.

If we are to void this season, then the only thing that can remain from it is the Carabao Cup winners, as that competition was finalised.

According to F365, 6 championship clubs are already threatening to sue the PL if there is no relegation or even if there are only 2 spots awarded to Leeds and West Brom.

The only winners out of any of this will be the lawyers.

That's an easy one to sort out. First question would be....did you complete your season? No?.....well, once your season has completed with all matches being played, then you can have your promotions.

For me the argument is simple. You can only be promoted once all matches have been played out. This is what triggers promotions and relegation's. What if Cornavirus occurred after only one game into a season? Do you promoted that team? Would you have relegated Chelsea and given United the title? It's a complete nonsense that will get nowhere if you try to sue.

This. If you don't relegate as the season didn't finish, for the same reason you can't promote.

Not completeing the season but still having any form of promotion or prizegiving is not an option from a legal point of view. Teams that say are still to play Liverpool or Man City will be adjudged to have had an advantage.

The season needs to be null and void or played behind closed doors. Delaying for a few weeks is not going to solve the issue that is coing to be here for months. Arguably delaying for a coupel of weeks and then restarting may actually be wores than just carrying on.

They need to play the remaining fixtures to roughy the same schedule and offer the streams of all the matches free to Amazon BT & Sky & BBC iplayer. This will compensate for TV contracts and season tickets and ensure that teasm earn their prize money and promotion relgation.

I really believe that is the fairest and most practical way to solve the current conundrum on how to end this season fairly.

Yeah and as I stated on my long post a week or so ago, if the PL decide to void the season, no club really has any argument/legal. However, if they start inviting clubs into the league, that's a different matter. If I recall, Leeds were a similar distance clear at this point last season but blew it, any court argument will certainly reference that situation.

However, the PL are that desperate to have Leeds back and could quite possibly just settle with the teams in the Championship to facilitate it.

If I owned a team that had played Man City 4 times over that 1 3/4 seasons and I got relegated by a point or so and another team scraped staying up that had only played Man City 3 times, I'd be looking at launching a legal challenge. It's given the other team an advantage and me a disadvantage trough no fault of my own. You either have to complete the season or void it entirely and if you void it entirely how to you cater for prize money? You can't split it evenly, those higher up would argue they've been penalised. You can't distribute it according to current postion, because some teams have been disadvantaged by playing top teams more than others.

The only sensible workable and fair option is to complete the season.

No, as others have said it does not account for the teams played so far and the difficultly of those games.

Complete the season or cancel it all are the only fair options for all.

Until we know when anything will resume a solution cannot be proposed/agreed anyway.
