    Watford 0-0 Reading

From listening to it, it sounds like THE most boring game ever. 0-0, a point for us, which is what we need, however 3 points would have been nice.

"sigh"- congrats to those who went and managed to sit throught it. it was boring enough listening to it online!

was it a fair result or did one team deserve to win it? and also 0 v 0 why not give priskin 15/20mins?

I thought we'd only get a draw, we really need someone to take our chances, we'd have won that game with King.

Not good enough, sorry. We lack firepower, we did even with King fit. We need to be picking up 3 points at home to the smaller clubs, regardless of their runs of form.

I hope the cheque book is being openend, and we get a least 2 forward and 1 attcking midfield player of quality. I would rather pay more for 3 than get 5 less able with 2 in defence as is being suggested. I feel our midfield is adequate and defence is good.

I've said it before and will say it again: Aidy is crap at making subs. Priskin is always worth a punt in that situation.

Definately, we lacked quality today, and we definately need to make some performances. Particularly a striker, a natural finisher who can just show a piece of quality and get the ball in the back of the net.

I would be surprised if it was as bad as the ******s on Royal FM made out.

I suppose considering Reading`s position and our injuries a point is not a dire result.

It sounded as though Hendo was getting knocked about - perhaps Aidy didn`t think Priskin would take the battering, although at home I would have thought when Smith was substituted it was worth sacrificing a bit of width to give Priskin a run out.

totally agree, a stalemate again and Priskin sat on his backside, why not give him his chance, u never know it might actually work.

we'll never know what he's like until aidy gives him some prem time.

It must be pretty damaging to his morale to watch our lack of finishing power from the bench.

i do agree, however by the sounds of it bouazza and hendo were doing alright, just no finishing. Bouazzas got pace and strength, and hendos going to want to stay on pitch and get his 1st prem goal, can priskin add anything which hendo and bouazza can't?

The game was heading for a boor draw from near the beginning, and when no goals came, i do believe that priskin should have been given a start. He's not going to develop physically and mentally by sitting on the bench. Give him a chance aidy ;)

Maybe Priskin would have been worth the punt, could have put him on for Smith, putting Ash in midfield. But I think it is obvious that Aidy doesn’t think he’s ready, especially in physical games. Most of our bench was just there to make up the numbers, if they don’t add anything why bring them on?

Our squad depth is poor, but I think we should only spend money in Jan on young/determined players who can help us next season, what ever league that may be.

I would have been disappointed with 0-0 at the start of the season, but Reading are not a bad team, listening to the Reading commentators, they believed they'd win, we were the home side, but a draw isn't terrible, gives us more of a base to build on.

absolutley. i can relate to that sortta. if somebody is playing ahead of him in his position and playing crap he will think to himself, he's crap and the manger must think i'm even worse than him!

come on aidy, give him a run! but it's looks worse as i can't see him playing him against the toon or the pool:(

    did Aidy bottle it?

why wasnt there a 'attacking' change (you cant counnt moving stewart into the midfiled at attacking change)

i got the impression that aidy didnt want to lose the game late on, fair enough, but in parts it was there for the taking adn somemore pressing could've finally broken them down.

i wanted to see macca but he wasnt on the bench, anyone know why?

frankly its a good thing he wasn't on the bench the ref was crap tonight hence reading knocked us about a bit and nutin we could do about it maybe thats the reason why aidy didnt throw priskin on aswell

Because he's had his chance - 4yrs of them in fact. Time for him to go I'm afraid.

Didn't go today but spoke to someone that was there and he said it was woeful! Not good enough! Reading were there for the taking and we couldn't score - AGAIN!

Our defence now is solid with Chambers and Stewart using their pace to support Shittu and Demerit's strength!

Mahon will be fresh for Newcastle...hopefully Francis will get back to his form of monday night!

It's now the time to drop Doris 'couldn't score in a brothel' Henderson! It's also time to give Priskin a chance!

    Team for next week:

    Lee
    Chambers
    Shittu
    Demerit
    Stewart
    Smith
    Mahon
    Francis
    Bouazza
    Priskin
    Young

subs: Chamberlain, Henderson, Bangura, Powell and Mariappa

People will look at that team without Henderson and say "well how are we suppose to get Priskin and Young to win headers"...simple answer is we don't hit the ball to their heads...we knock the ball into the corners and run the channels whilst putting their defenders under pressure facing their own goal!

As soon as we get the ball at the back or in midfield we look to get players out wide and attack their full backs...exactly like we did last season!!!

    Newcastle here we come!

I've just got in form the game and all I have to say is we're never going to score in a month of Sundays. Both Bouazza and Hendo had good chances (although form where I was sitting Hendo's was easier) and both squandered them. To be honest Lee had little to do. The game wasn't for football purists (or me for that matter) and will give more ammo to our already numerous critics. With Newcastle and Liverpool away to come (both hitting form it would seem) and Arsenal at home I really do fear for our position come New Year, especially if we can't score to save our lives. :(

In response to Bubble's post, he's right we do need to get the ball into the channels and get crosses in. I feel that's our best chance at the moment. Hendo actually got a header towards goal with one cross, a glimmer of hope maybe?

i thought the ref could have been much worse, we got two free kicks in good areas from him, but young's delivery's were awful so nothing came form them

priskin is well over 6ft, he could put himself about and cause readings some problems and he could done better than henderson was doing, i feel anyway.

i wanted to see macca play because him running at tired full backs could have presented problems for reading and chances for us, but i agree he has had his chance.

we had any decent strikers (no offence to Darius who is a good lad and works hard) to go alongside our fairly solid defence or rather central defence!

Big Dan Shittu was MOTM again and Al Bangura did very well in central midfield.

However its the same story each week...we had nothing up front despite the best efforts of Bouazza and Young.

    Smith wasn't on form today.

I like Aidy naturally but why does he not make any subs to try and change things up front like bring Priskin on...at least its something fresh.

Oh well...2 difficult away games coming up then Arsenal.

Christ knows what position we'll be in come January and the transfer window.

We need a striker, simple as. Maybe even 2. Hendo although working very hard is not scoring, which is what strikers should do, bouazza and young are playing very well, and getting a few goals, but we need a natural finisher. Priskind deserves maybe half a game to see whether hes any good. From what i've seen of him, hes talented, but not physically adjusted to the premiership- a player for the future, but we need him now.

So com on aidy, get a good striker in Jan :)

exactly what i, and i think everyone in the staduim was thinking by about the 70th minute

ok henderson works hard but its no good saying, if we go down, 'oh well at least we worked hard'. simple chances like the six yarder, anywhere but near the goalkeeper and it was a goal, so where di he put it.........

Two strikers needed urgently! We have nothing upfront...also need a quality attacking midfielder to partner Mahon!

    A poor game but positives,
Richard Lee kept another clean sheet, we don't need to buy a first team goalie, Rich is good enough we need to get him a decent understudy.

Jay and Big Dan are developing a bloody good partnership in central defence.

Al Bangura stepped in for Gav and did a good job, when Gav is fit again Damien Francis could have competition for that place.

We were (slightly) the better team today and at the end Reading were wasting time to take the single point.

Hammer is turning into a very handy left winger.

    Now the negative.

As much as I dislike bad mouthing a Watford player, Darius Henderson is out of his depth in this league (as long as he plays I will shout support for him) but if we don't get 2 decent strikers in the January window we are bolloxed!!

It did hack me off to see Heider and Collins John started on the bench for Fulham
Carlton Cole can't get a game for West Ham
Michael Chopra went to Cardiff on a free.
So many strikers not playing regular football and we as a small club are being handicapped by the stupid transfer window system.

From my vantage point in the Rookery near the end I was just watching Priskin running up and down the touchline. He's got to be given a chance  why did we bother to pay for him if we're not even going to use him for 5 mins?? Ok I know he's young and inexperienced but he has played Internationally (and scored) before, you just never know what could happen, plus he's actually scored more goals this season than Henderson (ok it was vs Hull) so he can put the sphere into the onion bag.

Like at City on Monday, Hendo runs himself ragged and for the last 15-20 mins is a passenger, surely it makes sense to put on a fresh face with what i'd expect is a player with a big point to prove to the manager??

Good call Phil! We need to get 2 goalscorers in in January!

We're now looking more solid at the back...we've kept a very respectable amount of clean sheets for a side sitting rock bottom of the Premiership, so it's clear the problem lies with our goal scoring!

I also feel we need an attacking midfielder to partner Mahon!

    Strikers:

    Sharp (scunny) £1,000,000?
    A.Smith (Man Utd) Loan? OR
    Bendtner (Arsenal) Loan?

    Midfielder:

    Dunn (Birmingham) £2,000,000? if fit?
    Watson (Palace) £2,000,000?
    Koumas (WBA) £3,000,000

I do feel sorry for Doris as well as he does try so hard, but is just not a prem player. I actually think he would make a better centre back in the prem, similar to what Mooney done for a while for us

I would go for 3 strikers now. Send Priskin on loan somewhere to get a few games. Rossi in from Man Utd (prefer Smith but never going to happen), and Sharpe and McLoud in from the lower divisions. That would give us 3 young, hungry players, willing to prove themselves.

I think his strength is playing to the finisher. Unfortunately we don't have one. He has a role to play, just not the role he is being asked to at the moment.

Doris is not gonig to score this season, he has squaundered chances that a sunday league player could have scored.. we cant afford to keep relying on him to find the net, its not gonna happen.
Yes he is solid in other areas but if he cant score whats the point.. priskin is as good an option as him in my opinion.. so he might get muscled off the ball at times (that wont cost us anything so long as the defence hold strong).. but at least when he has a goal mouth shouting at him he will know what to do with the ball... unlike it seems Doris.

I really feel for Darius. Oddly he is the one who sometimes plays the best balls into the box from the flanks.
I was at Man City and felt then, like today, that we simply are not putting quality crosses in for Darius (or anyone else) to play with.
Smithy doesn't beat anybody, Hameur gets close but not quite back to his best and Ashley keeps ballooning crosses away from any danger.
The amount of corners we waste is depressing.

Hopefully the flood gates will open sooner than we think but we are paying for not paying the money some clubs wanted for their forwards pre season.
