He may be the one right at the back behind the big balding guy, wearing a somewhat concerned looking expression.

Half the *****ers on here have never been to any Watford game, let alone a scum game.

The other half have, but are too old to remember what they had for breakfast, let alone a derby day atmosphere.

We need Deeney back for this one, whether he's fit or not. Our talisman.

So no-one on this forum has any recollection of playing the scum. Interesting claim.

Poppycock - I distinctly remember watching us gloriously smash Bournemouth 6-1 at the Vic, for one.

[QUOTE="Make no mistake about it, this is their cup final of cup finals, the chance to put a dent in their better neighbours' promotion hopes whilst they languish in a lower mid table position as pointless as their club. Despite the lack of fans, they will be up for this and taking any points from us will be one of the greatest results in the history of their club."

    [/QUOTE]
I'm sure it means a lot to their fans, but most of these players weren't even alive for any semblance of a rivalry between the clubs - much less played in a match with rabid fans. Without 15,000 screaming drooling eejits.... will they really be that much more up for it?

Got to smash these ****ers, wonder if they will be boxing in their Tommy **** Robinson statue in preparation?

Gonna sound like an old fart but these games still very much matter to me. Need WTE's father in law doing the team talk supported by Ben Wilmot. If neither are available I'll happily do it.

Double over the scum, stuff of dreams, need to make it happen.

I had a dream last night actually, I had the wings of a sparrow and the arse of a crow.........

Fortunately I knew exactly what to do with them.

I just can't agree with that. This game would have been proper nasty if fans were allowed.

not meant as a narky comment, genuinely curious if you’ve been to Luton v Watford matches? They are horrible hateful atmospheres (or great atmospheres depending on your take i guess). They will have watched for years as they plummetted into the abyss, while we rose (and fair to say fell at times) to the top table, rebuilt the stadium and outperformed them in every way for nearly 20 years. If the fans are back in for this fixture again one day (could be in 6 months time if things go badly) their suporters will be foaming at the mouth to point out they’re back and the towns will see so much tension and police coverage. It wont compare to anything since that league cup match. Bournemouth is just a twitter spat, this is the real thing and its hate in both directions.

Nope...never been to one in my life. Similar to Northampton v Watford games I suspect.

Nicely summed up. The atmosphere has to be experienced to believe the sheer level of hatred involved.

I know next to nothing about who played for us in 1993 (Mooney and Ramage were yet to join us) - did those two play for us, Luton or both?

Us. They felt slightly harsh for one of the sending offs, i think Drysdale got a harsh elbow red card from memory? We went on to somehow sell him to kevin keegans neecastle for near 500k, and he never played for them.

I’ve heard of Furlong because he became an important player for QPR much later on, but this was well before my time as a WFC fan.

Of course, out of the top of my head I can name several of the greats who played for us in the golden 80s - Barnes, Blissett, Johnson, Callaghan, Gibbs, Jackett, Jenkins...

I had that thought myself, but I imagine their manager being an ex-scummer will stress the importance of this game to his players.

I see this being a pretty damp squib nevertheless regardless of the result - a boring mid table side who don’t score much and don’t concede a great deal, somewhat like the return game at the Vic in 2005/06. The opening game between us that season, like the one this season, had much more significance and impact - they had a great start and were above us for about half the season, and would have still climbed to two points below us had they beaten us. However we schooled them in their own backyard, despite going down to ten men and they didn’t have a shot on target the entire second half if I recall rightly - one of many great moments from my favourite season. The only thing significant about this apart from obviously needing the points for promotion is achieving our first double over them for 34 years.

    I agree with this.

As much as my thread on whether Watford fans gate Luton or Bournemouth more provoked an angry reaction on here (lol), we can't argue with the statistics.

Nearly 40% of voters see Bournemouth as a bigger grudge match.

As much as the older generation (or keyboard warriors) may argue, IMO this points to a shift in the stance of Watford fans.

    Pretty interesting to see tbh.

But I agree with this as well.

I have never experienced a Luton game before and I get that there is a lot of bad blood that goes back decades.

IMO these are 2 different rivalries as HB1 said.

Bournemouth is the modern day grudge match (I still hate them more) whereas Luton is the traditional rivalry that will seemingly never die.
