So the dust has settled on a brief sojourn in the Championship. Is this the beginning of a new tenancy in the PL ? Worthy only because of the financial implications (which will undoubtedly await Swansea when their parachute payments run out should they fail to qualify via the playoffs). Or is it the start of the yoyo ? As to the game expect a masterclass in the dark arts from Swansea with prolific howls and screeches from the Swans coaching staff. However little rides on the outcome barring professional pride. As a result the potential line ups are a toss up with the final fixture a chance for many a coach to field youngsters before they are sent off into the wilds of League Two or beyond. Whatever the result it will have no impact on the first fixture in the PL as one can expect a radically different team in that half the current starting line up will have moved on or been relegated to the bench. The focus for us is already on the PL and has been since promotion was confirmed with no doubt agents and clubs being contacted as to whom may be available and at what price. That is the essence of this summer. Finding enough quality at a suitable price to have a fighting chance at staying up and not breaking the bank with all the disastrous consequences that entails. This season given the pandemic has been an anomaly with clubs holding purse strings tight and little movement in terms of transfers ensuring the relegated sides were essentially able to keep the core of their sides and that has certainly shone through with Muff now resurgent again having taken Swansea to the cleaners recently. If Swansea fail to go up we could do worse than get on the blower to check the Guehi situation for instance. For us there is a certain amount of deadwood to remove in particular two players and the need for Munoz to have an experienced assistant to help him out. More analysts, a set piece specialist and a psychologist would not go amiss. Thanks to all the preview writers this season for their time and efforts. There will be a rota for next season as well.
Should win, but if we still have the same injuries as last week or the players are on the beach I can see us losing this one.
I fail to believe that we haven't already got sports psychologists at the club! Feeling quite confident about this one. Important to try new things in pre-season, so hopefully give some fringe players a chance.
Who cares? Season done and dusted. Don't care if we rest some of our good players but if we do, let's give some young players a run out just so we can see if any look the part. There is nothing to gain from playing the likes of Gray, Success, Navarro and always the faint possibility they pick up an injury that makes them harder to shift. Swansea are the worst team in the play offs by some distance, really quite incredible how they made it and without some very generous refereeing decisions they wouldn't have been anywhere close.
Swansea are the only team we’ve not taken a point off this season, so it would be nice to complete the full set.
Almost forgot there was still one game left. Yeah just give fringe players a runout. Perica probably deserves a start, even if he will be out the door in the summer window whatever happens. Maybe even give a senior debut to Lo-Everton and Cukur off the bench, before sending them on loan next season?
Would have been something to get excited about if crowds were allowed in. It would have been party time at the Vic! As it is.....meh.
Lo-Everton is on loan at Wealdstone at the moment, I'd be all for giving Cukur a game off the bench as he's looked good for the youth teams
Hopefully starts for Ngakia, Wilmot and Zinckernagel all in their preferred positions. And instead of giving Gray and Success minutes let's reward a few more of the youngsters like Cukur, Crichlow, Pochettino and Phillips.
After a point in my match on Sunday at the Warwick Boat Club my partner 'BB' said "look at that enormous swan on the lake!" "It can't be a swan" I replied " it's upright". She looked quizzically at me. I didn't bother explaining. COYH!
How come he was able to go out on loan at this stage of the season? He was only just playing for us in the FA Youth Cup a few weeks ago. Are the loan rules for the lower leagues different?
Bachmann/Elliot Masina Sierralta Wilmot Ngakia Hughes Gosling/Chalobah Zinckernagel Crichlow Pedro (yeah I know, our options out on the left are either knackered or *****) Perica
Yeah, they are, I'm not sure if it's covid related or if it's always been like that though. He's played 5 games for them, with some games still to play, so a decent length of loan even if there's nothing to play for for Wealdstone now
Hope we don’t lose. Swansea are the only team who can do the double over us, and we’re the only team left in the league that hasn’t lost back to back games. Would like to at least draw this game. Can see us playing Sarr and co. Think Xisco will want to finish on a high. Take that good feeling into next season. Losing will be a bit of a downer. With that being said, we’re going to smash them. Watford 4-1 Swansea.
We played well for half an hour at their place then did an Ivic. After last Saturday's abysmal showing by Gray and Success the closest they should be to the game is text alerts. Will no doubt be a mixture of youth and senior players. Swansea might rest a few as well. Be nice to win and end our sublime home form on a high. We played like we really didn't give a crap at Bottleford, so I hope we at least put a bit more effort in for our final game. 2-1
Given our excellent home record I'd really like us to put out a team capable of a victory in this one. Hungbo to start if fit, couple of youngsters to come on later maybe.
The Brentford match served a purpose as it demonstrated how penetrating our attack was without Sarr and Pedro. It was about as sharp as the handle of a butter knife made in Bluntland. Bring back Sarr and Pedro and we should be able to grind out our standard 1-0 home win. A clean sheet will ensure a club record of points attained at home, a season with no one getting the double over us, the only Championship side to avoid back-to-back defeats in a entire season and the joint defensive record in the history of the second tier.
We were in the championship just long enough to realise how completely meaningless and irrelevant LTFC actually are.
I agree, I'm glad we lost the game with those two up front. It was clearly a signal to the powers that be that these guys are not good enough to be understudies. Success has been the worst drain on resources we have ever had, he has hardly made any appearances and in those he has done, he was poor and tends to like falling over. At least in Gray's case he puts some effort in, albeit limited, I suspect Gray will be around next season for his last year of his contract as backup and as he's homegrown. If we can get shot of Success this summer, then I will be happy with that.
I know it doesn't make a difference to League position but you don't want to go into the summer off the back of two defeats. I think we'll go full strength. Ayew and Guehi expected to miss this for Swans.
Must win game. It's my bloody birthday and they have already let me down badly by failing to win promotion or the title ON my birthday. Defeat would be unforgivable, esp given we will lose pretty much every game next season.
I would think thy might rest a few for this. I would like to see us go full strength and finish the season on a high. Equally I would like to see some of the U23's given a chance even as a sub.
