Pundits have been generally positive about us since the game. Maybe they're noticing that all the elements they thought would hold us back (changes of coach, lack of home grown experience etc.) Might not affect us too much.
Maybe we can also stop being so sensitive too.

    Yes! Splendid buffoonery!

I almost fell off the sofa when they praised us!

Has Danny Murphy been stuffed do you think?

  7. Well it looks like we are doubly happy to be promoted given the reaction to Channel 5's new league show. Pointless studio audience made up of ****wits, loads of Martin Allen, games across divisions in random order.

Of course Pundits may change our tune on us, we are an unknown in the league as our most of our players. They have gone to the most logical choice and said our new signings would struggle as outside looking in it does seem rather muddled.

It is easy for us to point the finger and laugh at their inaccuracies with the benefit of hindsight but we could easily fall flat on our arse.

Lineker was surprisingly un-sneery about us.

I thought I sensed a degree of sneeriness behind his hilariously forced straight face when introducing Bournemouth in their 11,000 stadium.

Do you reckon he might have moved on?

Having zero interest in the PL outside of Watford participating in it I haven't watched MOTD in eight years. Wtf has happened to Lineker? From his chicken like scraggly neck to his industrial laquered bouffant hair to that grey mess around his mouth resembling a cruise liner or Butlins magician. He is a scary looking dude these days.

Doubt we will get much coverage.

Focus will be the Berahino miss.

Last week Manchester United were last. This week they are second-to-last. The Premier League is obviously quite different now to how it was last time we were here.

Voted number 5. With that jug eared, catweazle bearded, ooompa loompa hosting there really was only one choice.

The BBC tend to order it by number of goals or by interest in the result, any game that ends goalless will always be on last.

Assumed we'd be on last and as i went out I missed the highlights and just seen it's not on iplayer until monday (i won't be up early enough tomorrow morning) what was said by pundits? (not that i overly care but there is a part of me that wants us to feel accepted)

  19. Levon

Gary Lineker said "a steady start from Watford" and neither of the pundits ruled us out of staying up. That was pretty much it.

Packed with insight....;) How Ian Wright is back on television beggars belief. The main focus was on Ighalo and Deeney as a partnership but Jurado and Capoue were ignored. And they did focus on the Berahino miss. That it would have been the ultimate smash and grab was ignored.

Yes, the gold tooth is glinting in the camera once more.

It's interesting most of all watching them gradually back pedal. 99% of pundits backed us to finish 20th and the other 1% had us 19th.

Before the Everton game every single one of the smug 'experts' asked on Sky Sports, leaned back in his chair and confidently predicted an Everton win. No ifs, no buts, no maybes afforded to other games - a plain and straightforward one word banker...."Everton", "Everton", "Everton" they announced confidently one after the other.

Now they're slowly back pedalling. Now they're "not completely ruling out" the possibility of us staying up. Now they're starting to make little comments about "wise summer recruitment" and giving a little credit to Quique Sanchez. I even heard one commentator on our match yesterday do a complete reverse ferret and claim to have "always backed us to stay up".

I really, really hope to enjoy and savour a whole lot more of these in the months to come.

We should make a special 'before and after' thread of the very best of them.

Did i dream Jurado took a free kick that missed by inches? Not on the highlights.

I would expect at the very least for these 'experts' to do some research to justify their exorbitant salaries. But they don't. It's like the conversation after some alcohol is consumed of cliches, opinions that have no basis in fact, open prejudice and ill remembered memories of Watford and what tidbits they have picked up in one of the trashy tabloids.

A side that has experienced internationals in it should not be expected to struggle compared to Bournemouth who they have all to a man predicted to stay up. A side that is composed for the most part of hard working but not particularly gifted players a la Burnley last season. Come on. We have Prodl a key player in one of the best Austrian national teams since the late seventies, Jurado who has been on the fringes of the Spanish national set up and a host of internationals who have played at the highest level.

Yes but they're a mess with 5 managers in 12 months, won't settle quickly with 11 new players and the new manager, whatshisname, may have won Europa leagues and stuff but he's never managed in England before so I don't rate him. Top tip; Watch out for Iketchi Anya - he's delivered in his 7 games for Scotland and I've heard of him, opposed to their 10 other journeymen from lower european leagues who I have never heard of and can't spell so won't mention. No premier league experience either, apart from Behrami who failed at West Ham, don't know what he did after that, probably playing for poor teams back home in Switzerland, so won't mention it in the final edit, just that he failed at West Ham, I think he failed anyway cos I don't remember him getting many goals, he's no Shaqiri is he.

Prediction for 15/16 - Can't see them matching Norwich's experience and Bournemouth have spent wisely, going to be a long struggle for the hornets, 20th.

I thought that was the closest we were to a goal yet it wasn't on the extended highlights on Sky Match Day or on MOTD.

Even the commentator at half time on Sky said ' Watford were close with Juardo's free kick' yet they never showed it!

Goals on Sunday - Two good performances from Watford but no win yet so you know... Then John Carver and Steve Stone slag off Watford defending (quite rightly) for a few minutes. Now let's have a look at the Championship goals from yesterday....

It's MOTD2 Extra. If I were presenting it, even I wouldn't talk about a 0-0 draw between West Brom and Watford.

Everybody on here is so precious about whether or not the 'media' are nice to us. I couldn't give a ****.

Well, would you have it any other way?

We're a newly promoted side and that's reason enough for us to be relegation favourites. Before the season began, I wasn't surprised that many pundits were backing us for the drop. Now that we've started the season in better form, again I'm not surprised that a few of them are changing their minds.

Honestly, you and some other people are so soft and easily offended when it comes to football pundits. It's natural to change your opinion if you are pleasantly surprised by something. Get over it!

That's not reasoned logic. Bournemouth for instance were predicted to stay up. Where is the research ? Suppose a club came up and bought a large number of very experienced, technically capable players who have played at the highest level surely this would merit examination. Or owners who have a proven track record in keeping their clubs in the top division after getting them there ?

Or just base a prediction on emotion ? And one that is misplaced and based on this myth spun by the popular media that Bournemouth are a rags to riches story when they have been bankrolled by an oligarch.

If pundits opinions were based on research, clearly explained rather than on assumptions and cliches I think we would be far more happy with that. As I have said for several years the footballing media in general in this country and indeed many fans have not got a clue.

Maybe a few extra highlights, a little tour of the new facilities (including taking the **** at how it's still a bit of a building site) and finally a few words from Troy, Quique and maybe mongy fans.

I presume they meant the poor marking from the corner where Berahino should have scored? - other than that we did ok in defence.

They had a fans feature with a Leicester fan who talked about his memories so maybe its something like that?
