This was back in the day when everyone played a traditional 442 or even 424. Now everyone talks about being overrun in midfield and needing numbers there and defensive midfielders. Not saying we should do away with the rule, but I think the game is different now and it would be interesting what would happen without an offside rule.

I'm no fan of Rodgers, but he doesn't deserve this.

There was an experiment in the Conference (as was) in the late 80s where players couldn’t be offside from a free kick. At each one players from both sides packed the goal area and the ball was launched in under the crossbar, followed by a goalmouth scramble. The idea was quickly abandoned.

Yeah I heard on the news they barricaded themselves in the bathroom.

    That's just horrible.

If the item stolen was a 5' by 5' portrait of Brendan Rodgers, I would suspect an inside job.

Just a tentative question before this thread gets closed down:
Should Vardy have been red-carded for his collision with Foster? Reckless play? He was a fraction of a second later than Foster and anywhere else on the pitch a player arriving late with that much force would very likely be sent off. Yes, I know he got hurt and probably didn't mean it but that hasn't been allowed as an excuse elsewhere.

No. As you say it was only a fraction of a second so he wasn't very late. I doubt he could have stopped anyway.

It was a free kick to us - so I think his injury saved him from a yellow card at least. Was Deeney's challenge worse?

Although I do remember a Plymouth player getting a second yellow whilst being carried off on a stretcher.

Just another example of how biased Jon Moss was - Deeney yellow carded for his challenge on Schmeichel but no card for Vardy for his challenge on Foster

Totally agree. Vardy went into Foster, there's no doubt about that. I do think they were both going for the ball though, but Vardy was seen to be the aggressor and Watford were awarded a freekick, but no yellow card was issued.

With the Deeney one, the ball was there to be won. Schmeichel got to it just before Deeney and you could see that once the ball was with the keeper, Deeney pulled out of the challenge. To be fair to Schmeichel he got up quickly and didn't make a fuss. Had he rolled around in agony I think Moss would have given Deeney a red card.

But it was another example of leniency towards Leicester fouls and zero tolerance to any Watford indiscretions.

The clearest example of this was when Deulofeu received a forearm smash in his neck while running down the line and not even a foul was awarded, yet Maddison falls over with the merest hint of a coming together just outside our penalty area and a freekick was instantly awarded.

You kind of miss the point with Gray. He won't get as involved as Deeney and Delefeou coz he is a box player and needs service. Deeney and Delefeou more offen than not pick the ball up deep 30 yards from goal so statistically will touch the ball more thus be involved more.
It's only been recently that he has scored important goals playing 45 mins or less in a match. And that is because of service. A Hughes pass into him against Everton and an effective over the top pass from Deeney against Leicester.
There will be games where he will come on and do nothing and that will be when he don't get a sniff. I prefer him as a starter myself with Delefeou out wide he will get more chance of getting service and some chances to score in 90 mins than 30 the way he plays. As a sub you have to take the chances presented to you in a limited time which isn't easy and why he may fluff a few opportunities.

I would like this too but it risks being too attack-minded and too open. Who would you drop - Hughes ? That weakens us in the middle (i know he plays "wide" but is often seen in the middle when we don't have the ball. Pereyra ? Realistically i think it will always be 2 out of the 3 TD/GD/AG ....and Success can **** off !

Exactly. In just about every dead ball situation these days there's manhandling going on. Very occasionally something is given for it.. if it's around the throat for instance.

I was told earlier in this thread that the Leicester player having his arm around Deeney was a "definite penalty" But having watched a short clip on Youtube i see Capoue doing the exact thing to one of their players. So that's also another definite penalty yeah? 2-2.. no actually it would have been something like 14-12 if all incidents of manhandling are given.. and all games would have a similar scoreline!

Because it was the only pic we had to go on?
Your "100% onside" pic having not yet materialised. Yes you have to account for angles but hard to imagine it would make that much difference.. not a whole heads width.

Here i put a little white line on it for you.. well yellow line anyway. PS This is even ahead of the ball being kicked.

Thanks but the hundreds of thousands/millions of people watching the HT report on NBCSN with Robbie Earle and co would have also seen it. So I will stick with my original post, but thanks anyway. I’m sure it’s floating about in Twitter or somewhere, so feel free to find it if you like.

I did have a look around as it goes. Me being thorough and all that. Didn't find anything so the other pic is all we have to go on.. hence why people commented on it.
I watched the game on a US stream actually. But i was making a cuppa during half time so missed it.

Good for you. Sorry your adventures turned up blank. I get that and as pointed out by others, that angle makes it much more interesting to debate. However as stated previously, even the tightest calls that are marginally offside tend to end up on Ref Watch. So the fact ours didn’t, is enough to suggest it wasn’t offside.

You would have been pleasantly surprised had you watched it, Robbie Earle actually praised us for once and even ended the discussion before it started that it wasn’t offside. At least tell me you got up for PG Tips or Earl Grey?

Nah.. all we get is Liptons in Norway. Oh and Twinings Earl Grey which isn't too bad. Occasionally you can find PG Tips in the Asian stores but they don't have it on a regular basis.

Ok.. i had a think about the angle of the Deeney goal pic and last night experimenting with a beer can and a pint glass i realised just how little you had to move to notice quite a big change with parallax error (i think that's the term)
This morning i decide to be more scientific so i recreated the situation using a miniature Luther Blissett.. Paul Gascoigne and for good measure Alan Shearer.
I was surprised to see how much difference there was for different angles so i'm going back track a little if that's ok. I am now willing to accept the angle could be that deceiving.

Here is the photographic evidence of my experiment-

Liptons, horrible stuff. When I first moved to America, my wife’s family tried to poison me with that stuff. Thankfully living in NY at the time, I managed to find a shop that sold British things, including PG Tips. Mind you, I paid about £7/8 for a box of 40 tea bags, but it was worth it.

I appreciate your reconstruction of the event, which has been done with excellence may I add, and actually think you should start your own sports show in Norway. This is much better than what MOTD offer. Top work sir.

Why thank you. I shall be serving PG Tips to my guests of course.

PS At first i read that as £78 for 40 tea bags and thought to myself.. that's expensive even by Norwegian standards! Actually i think it's about the same price here in the Asian stores.

That's Gazza supposedly. When he was at Rangers and had slick back hair. I'm yet to see a Marco Silva Corinthian figure but i'm sure people could come up with a suitable snake stand in.

I pay $5.50 for a box of 80 at my local grocery emporium. Decent value. As are the chocolate digestives. $3.50 for a can of Heinz baked beans less so.

That’s not bad at all. It’s interesting that the prices vary so much. After we left NY we lived in SoCal for just over 3 years, a box of 80 was $10.99 but the mcvities were only $2. Even better though, the Heinz baked beans were $1. We use to load our trolly with them.

Now we live in Texas, PG tips is $4.34 for a box of 40, Heinz beans are $2, and mcvities are $3. However, maltesers are only $1 and Jaffa Cakes $4. So it’s swings and roundabouts really.

Where are you going for that type of value on beans??

HEB is usually my best bet for British goods.
